ARCHIVED Celiac Disease As Well As Other Problems?
mommida replied to willabec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Keep up with monitoring your diet. By any chance are your falling into the gallbladder risk zone? The four "F" 's Female, Fair, Fat (sorry this is not my wording, and please don't take offense) Forty/Fertile. Please find a doctor you feel comfortable with and continue testing. -
ARCHIVED Moving Out New Issues
mommida replied to selrdoor's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My kids were diagnosed young. I have spent the last five years teaching them to be serious about what they eat and how their health depends on it. You have to stand up for yourself. You find out who your friends are when you are on a gluten free diet. Any one who isn't supportive of your needs is NOT your friend. -

CARAMEL FROSTING!!!!? Would you plese share your recipe or provide information on gluten free caramel frosting? My daughter's birthday is on the seventeenth and because she is restricted beyond gluten we are having a hard time with frosting. Thank you! -
We have a gluten free bakery in Chesterfield, Michigan called Celiac Specialties. They make the closet to the basic doughnut that would be filled and frosted like that. So make a filling and your frosting and get your self an order. Good luck with your pregnancy!

ARCHIVED Pamela's Cheesecake
mommida replied to minniejack's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you need these already prepared? Cheescake recipes have been easier to convert to gluten free. (I would use the Pamela's cookies.) -
ARCHIVED Trying Not To Panic
mommida replied to OBXMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You will probably be sent home with a stool test. You will have to catch and take stool samples. (If you find any more you are going to have to catch it.) It is not an emergency and this can be treated. The things we end up doing when we are parents/caregivers. -
ARCHIVED The Curse Of An Early Celiac Dx
mommida replied to jcmandm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
3o% of Celiacs can present with constipation, not the horrible "D" and vomitting we complain about most. Some Celiacs on a gluten free diet suffer from constipation. It's not uncommon and your daughter is not alone. I know trying to get kids to drink prune juice can be awful. Sometimes you can warm and add other juices to make it a different taste. -
ARCHIVED Yeast Overgrowth (mouth, Vagina, Butt)
mommida replied to julu83's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Chronic yeast infections have been linked to Celiac and other auto-immune diseases. If you are going to get tested for Celiac you have to continue eating gluten until the testing is done. -
ARCHIVED Do Or Can Nerves Affect Celiac?
mommida replied to Del's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stress makes EVERYTHING worse. My thoughts and prayers are with you! When my stomach has been extremely out of order, bananas help get some food down and stay put. A baked potato can be a meal in a pinch. -
I served on jury duty this summer. People are excused for MANY different reasons. My gluten free diet was not an issue. It can be very stressfull. (the case was felony assault with intent to murder and commission of a felony with a firearm) One woman admitted to having a bladder problem and was kept on the jury. The judge explained he will wait...

ARCHIVED Need Some Parenting Advice
mommida replied to ValentinoMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi I know money may be tight but everyone should have their own testing done. EnteroLab isn't well respected by doctors. Genetic testing isn't fully covered by most insurances. In our experience genetic testing is NOT 98% accurate either. The kids don't have to cry, you don't have to feel guilty there is plenty of gluten free food. If your kids are... -
Hi, The key words everyone jumped on was WHEY and milk protein for casien. I agree it might be best to avoid casein right now. Keep a food journal to help you determine if you have missed gluten on a label or to determine if you have other food sensitivities. It will save you a lot of frustration of trying to remember why you are getting symptoms. ...

I'm sorry about your day. I'm stuck having a month of torture. I have caught someone trying to get money from a non-profit that they are NOT entitled to. This woman is now harrassing me. I feel bad because I think she needs some mental help, but I am ready to involve the police if neccessary. I know, no good deed goes unpunished. I really just...

ARCHIVED Well, thats It Then....results Are In!
mommida replied to Twiggy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I never had Celiac officially diagnosed for myself. I have heard people with official diagnoses have had to pay higher life insurance premiums or had problems with "pre-existing" conditions medical coverage. If gluten free makes you feel better, that is enough of an answer. -
ARCHIVED Can I Have A Child Re Tested?
mommida replied to codygirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The Celiac blood panel is known to be faulty especially when the patient is 24 months and under. Celiac can be "triggered" at any age. Relatives with a higher risk need to be screened regularly. -
ARCHIVED Does My Toddler Have Celiac Disease Or Not?
mommida replied to sebastians-mommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could opt for the genetic testing to determine if your son has the genes associated with Celiac. It is not a fool proof test and is not fully covered by most medical insurances. My daughter has Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. So it is possible to be dealing with Celiac and another disorder/disease/allergy. Like Richard has pointed out, each doctor... -
Well.... When we were goint through the testing. (What a waste of time nightmare.) My daughter's genetic test came back DQ2 and DQ8 positive. My test came back negative, negative for anything Celiac related. Being that this is my biological daughter, I had to ask if we even matched as mother to daughter. Prometheus labs would not comment, would...

About 4 years after my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac, she developed severe GERD symptoms. She was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. EE was just given a standardized medical code in October 2008. We will have to wait and see if it will be proven to have a correlation to Celiac. It seems there are a lot of diagnoses and complaints of GERD along...

ARCHIVED Enlarged Red Blood Cells
mommida replied to bettyboop29's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just off the top of my head.... Enlarged red blood cells is a trait of Pernicious Anemia. Pernicious Anemia has a correlation to Celiac disease. In this disorder the gut lining lacks intrinsic factor for absorbtion of vitamin B12. It is not the easiest thing to get diagnosed. I am concerned that the doctors you have seen are willing to dismiss this... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Save My Daughter!
mommida replied to kaleesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At this point I suggest you go back to a pediatric gastroenterologist. You have over a year experience with the gluten free diet. You saw improvement, never changed a diet, and now there are "new - old" symptoms. That was our experience with about 4 years of improvement. My daughter's Celiac symptoms returned and then worsened. She was then diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Calling All Cooks - Poison In The Pantry
mommida replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
RiceGuy, You should be able to have your well water tested by your county services. Wells can get contaminated with bacteria. Well water of areas is known to have higher concentrations of heavy metals, iron, or arsenic. In the case of bacteria in your well system, it is possible for the bacteria to eat right through any filter you have in your well system... -

First, I think the wonderfull people here will open up and tell you about losing their best furry, hairy, feather,or even scaley friends. I have to say I still grieve for my furry friends I have lost. I still love and miss them. Trouble, a cat, saved my life. She pulled me out of what would have been a deadly coma from a seizure, and made me get...

ARCHIVED Starting Preschool
mommida replied to MaryannG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It sounds like you are on the right track. Tell the teacher that you can find replacements, but you need enough time to search out products. i.e. pretzel sticks, graham crackers, and such. Explain that some of these items have to be made from scratch at home. Explain cross-contamination. "When in doubt, go without!" Make it a mantra food your child... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Gaestroesophigal Reflux
mommida replied to GFgirly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter was diagnosed with probable Celiac at 17 months old. She developed very severe acid reflux and gerd symptoms last year and by December was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. EE seems to be "triggered" by certain foods. (It's different for everyone and could be airborn.) I found more people with EE here on this site than I did searching...
