  1. I can't eat spinach raw or cooked. It causes major GI symptoms. I also have trouble with any high iron content foods. i.e. raisins and such. I also have the tendency to vomit any type of iron supplement. No you are not crazy! I think GI or Celiac persons need to keep a food journal because the tendency to have other sensitivities is too likely.
  2. I was very happy with the allergen box. I do have kids. The breaded meats were a big hit with them. It was fast for me to make up for dinner. I personally don't care for breaded meats, but served the chicken patties with gluten-free spaghetti and mozzarella cheese. If you want to order just the plain veggie or steaks, just hook up with a friend...
  3. Angel food ministries now has an allergen free box. Do a search for more information, as I don't want to break any board rules and post a direct link. (The sponser church does get $1 profit from each box sold.) Just thought with the economy like it is, this information will be helpful.
  4. We still have to read the labels. i.e. It started going around that Rice Chex was going gluten free. We really had to watch which stores had the old gluten boxes and which ones were gluten free.
  5. Keep a food journal. Note the time of ingestion, mood/symptom check with time. By the way, I tend to vomit iron (supplements and foods with a higher iron content like RAISINS) I also have Hashi's. Vomitting the iron could be a symptom of Perniscious anemia, but I have to find a doctor capable of proper testing.
  6. You know you have a great idea ~ when it is already out there. How about a card for pharmacies, listing information about gluten free drugs. I usually bring my print-out sheets.
  7. Those were my daughter's symptoms. She was diagnosed as "probable" Celiac (17 months) after a positive on the blood panel, and positive for DQ2 and DQ8 genes. The endoscopy with biopsy was not done because she was hospitalized at that point with dehydration. She had an UTI infection ~ bladder infection probably from still being in diapers with such severe...
  8. You can skip the step of spraying the non-stick spray. Put the butter in the baking pan in the oven. Wait for the butter to melt and tip the pan to coat the pan sides with the melted butter or use a spatula to coat the sides. You can add some vanilla to the batter. You can serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with maple...
  9. Some studies show that a gluten free diet helps IBS. If you are finished with the Celiac testing, try the gluten free diet. If you are still seeking a diagnoses you must continue eating gluten for the testing. I am very sorry to hear you haven't found a doctor willing to work with you in a respectful professional manner. For what it's worth...
  10. Many people here are self diagnosed after negative test results. I would try the diet no matter what the test results are. If you are suffering from one or more food intloerances, a food journal can really help you figure out what's going on. Welcome to the board!
  11. I just called the nearest Starbucks and they have it!!! I'm going to sneak out tonight and try some!
  12. My husband's company is pulling out employees out of Mexico. The last man out should fly in on Saturday. The actions that are taking place right now are the actions that determine the future (pandemic or not). The company is acting on the threat that travel in and out of Mexico may be cut off. The employees don't deserve to get stuck in Mexico , but...
  13. A gluten free diet could skew the results of testing for Eosinophilic Esophagitis, if gluten is the trigger food. Has the docotor told you what the endoscopy was being done to rule in or rule out? In the time that you are witing for the lab results from the biopsy, keep a food journal. It will be harder to note the physical affects when your little one...
  14. If she is still vomitting whatever is causing the issue is still active. The allergy testing is unreliable. You might have to consider an endoscopy with biopsy, when the vomitting is still an issue. Call the ped. for a refferal to a ped. gastro. Take your child to the hospital for any signs of dehydration.
  15. Have you run accross any statistic of Celiacs that are Narcoleptic? Do you think anyone diagnosed with narcolepsy should be tested for Celiac?
  16. I did see some statements that children with Celiac Disease are more likely to develop an eating disorder. I do not have time to reseaerch out links to provide them. I think every time a person associates pain or discomfort with eating they will have to overcome fear of eating. Eating disorders are very hard to overcome. I hope you are seeking counseling...
  17. I am ignorant of Jewish law. There aren't any exceptions for medical reasons? I am very sorry. I don't think this situation was handled properly. In the future this pre-school needs to plan things out. If Kosher restrictions are to be kept, then they should also supply the gluten free Kosher item. (They supplied the snack for everyone else, you pay...
  18. I told my daughter she had to be in charge of her Celiac. (As much as she can be.) I told her she knows more about Celiac and what she can and can't have. If anything is questionable about eating any snack she is not to eat it and go to her snack stash. (One in the classroom and one in her bag.) I try and keep a few different shelf stable snacks in there...
  19. We have to agree to disagree and keep eath other in check. I am the one who was starting the hijacking. I felt I could explain why some medical documentation just is not available yet. This is the place where people can find comfort and information.
  20. I try not to post articles because I have seen the "battle of the links" one too many times. The individual most do their own research. Never take advice here as the final word on anything. We are all human and make mistakes, or have been blatantly misinformed. It looks like this topic is completely hijacked now.
  21. It's a tough call.... Post something that you have to look up ~documented, medically peer reviewed, and accepted information to post a link to, or just say it quick and as simple as one can? Well... My daughter was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Research on-line describes this as "rare" and "unknown" causes. It was just issued a medical standard...
  22. I would get your liver checked. Before this starts an "heated topic" I'm going off the chicken pox virus scenario. When the liver is overworked trying to detox (chicken pox virus) the body it resorts to the next system ~ the skin to flush out the toxins (the pox on the skin). So I agree with your theory, and think liver testing could help find an answer...
  23. Happy birthday to your 9 year-old! Have you been keeping a food journal? Look back over the labels to see if it is a different food allergy. Since we live so close, I know a lot of bugs are going around too. Hang in there! I know how frustrating some days can be. With the weather today, I feel chilled to the bone. I actually can't wait to...
  24. We called my daughter "Sharkey" because if you put anything near her mouth she would chomp down on it! Especially fingers! Those were the days.
