ARCHIVED 2 New Choices In Macomb County, Michigan
mommida replied to mimommy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We really enjoyed gluten-free Cucinas! We live further north and it's not that easy to get to, but we loved it. -
ARCHIVED Behavior And Attention Issues
mommida replied to I hate gluten's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The gluten free diet helped my son. He was like a wound up little toy and an emotional wreck. Now he is awarded certificates at school like Mr. Manners, student of the month, and such. You may want to be casein free too. -
Yes "M" for miracle. I really do have blonde hair! I could use a miracle right now!

ARCHIVED Anyone Else With Celiac And Ee?
mommida replied to codyb87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. My daughter was diagnosed with EE on December 17th after for suffering months. She went for allergy testing and nothing showed up. If you can find part of the allergic reaction that triggers this you are so extremely lucky! You will have some control over the problem. I have been doing a food journal to try and track down anything that could be... -
ARCHIVED One Child's Story: A Year In Review
mommida replied to mimommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I do feel like thanking Scott and everyone who posts every day! Having your life change so quickly and completely needs some type of support system. Unfortunately some times our family and friends can't be that support, because they don't understand. Having this on-line information and support is our life-line. I noticed your from Michigan too... -
I am so glad to hear things are getting better!

mommida replied to B R I A N A's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I recently saw the movie and the breakfast he was served looked like it would have been gluten free. The T-shirt made a few appearances in the movie, and each time "gluten free" was visible. Things that make you go Hmmmn? -
ARCHIVED My Toddler Has Been Getting Into The Dog Food....
mommida replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We switched to gluten free dog food because my daughter was eating the dog food. That's toddlers for you. Your daughter has learned how to share. LOL The dog can not tolerate any treats with wheat anymore. -
ARCHIVED Where Do You Draw The Line?
mommida replied to jasonD2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Give yourself some time. You get more comfortable with the diet and you will relax. (Then you will probably relax too much and swear you will read every label no matter what!) I have no doubt the diet restrictions are worth it! -
Have you considered allergies? You can develop an allergy at any time of your life. (for an allergy IGE should have shown up. Or Eosiniphils, but they would be located in the specific location of allergic response) Food ingested, inhaled, or contact. My aunt had a lifelong blood disorder (Most likely it was Fanconi Anemia, she was born with only one...

ARCHIVED We're Back - With Nephrotic Syndrome
mommida replied to Nikki~Nathan&Danielle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
We are going to manage, no worries. You can have a non food birthday "cake" if the diet restrictions are hard to manage. The cardboard cake slice shapes are filled with small toys and such and stacked into a full cake shape. I've noticed kids don't really eat much at parties. They would rather play. -
ARCHIVED Millet Or Related Disorder?
mommida replied to Eliza13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes you can have reactions to millet. This is being discussed in the nephrotic syndrome thread. -

Yes, and some ancient family folklore. -
ARCHIVED What European Contry Did Coeliacs Originate From?
mommida replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In Europe there was a group of indegenious people called by many names and spellings now i.e. Sami, Saami, and quite a few other spellings (many languages of Europe describing the culture and I believe 5 languages amonst the group of people). They were nomadic and followed the reindeer herds through the artic circle. The area of lands they traveled ran... -
ARCHIVED We're Back - With Nephrotic Syndrome
mommida replied to Nikki~Nathan&Danielle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you been including oats or millet in the gluten free diet? Like someone said, some Celiacs have a gluten like reaction to non gluten ingredients. Common ingredients for reaction are casien, oats (even the brands considered gluten free) and millet. From a quick article search, (by no means do I even come close to understanding Nephrotic Syndrome)... -
ARCHIVED New Cereal!
mommida replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, thanks for posting this. I usually don't bother picking up boxes when they have "whole" on the label, usually meaning whole grain wheat. So I will be on the lookout for this brand now. -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Having To Deal With The Attitude
mommida replied to The Kids Folks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Can you contact your local Celiac support group for Celiac experienced Peds.? -
I don't know of many that can handle going through all the red tape for help. I did just find out about an organization, angel food ministries, that helps provide food for less cost for every body. They are a nation wide organization and you do not have to provide personal financial information. They have one rule that you order a "basic" package. I...

My friend's brother was just diagnosed last year. He had an acute onset, requiring hospitalization. There is another website for support or organization that is really great. The information was very clear and suggested some dietary changes. If I can find it again I will post a link. Glad to know the information may have helped. Laura

Can you describe the "pools of blood" under the skin? If you think they have a purple color to them, get medical attention as soon as possible. Can you look up ITP, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, it is considered another auto-immune disorder.

ARCHIVED A Question For Families With Celiac
mommida replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have been advised to visit the Ped. Gastro. once a year. There are other auto-immune diseases that have a connection to Celiac Disease. Tests can be done to determine how well the gluten free diet is helping and if testing for other known associated diseases. By the way our daughter was just diagnosed with Eosiniphilic Esophagitis. It could have... -
ARCHIVED Mother With Celiac And Anemia, Reactions To Iron?
mommida replied to dd4glutenfree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Pernicious Anemia has a connection to Celiac Disease. She should be tested. -
ARCHIVED I'm Feeling Discouraged
mommida replied to *lee-lee*'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It must be something in the air today. I've been crying off and on. I feel like I'm being strangled by frustration. I just got out of the shower when the water went cold and my fingers are still prunes. Some day we will be able to look back on these times and laugh.
