  1. Has your doctor been clear about what the endoscopy is being done to diagnose? Depending on your symptoms there should be a list. Doctors do tend to keep patients in the dark, so they will not panic. Even "healthy" looking tissue needs to be biopsied. i.e. the presence of eosinophils can be imbedded into the tissue and not visible to the scope. ~Eosinophils...
  2. Congratulations! It is a good thing that you are asking questions, even if you think it is early. Breastfeeding is associated with a stronger gut and can lead to a later development of Celiac. There are conflicting notions on when to introduce gluten. Some say there is a window of 5 to 7 months to introduce gluten. Some say do not introduce potential...
  3. But if you're a parent of a child that is sick especially, they can't do the thinking for themselves, so you want to make sure you're heading in the right direcdtion.
  4. It is possible to ingest shampoo in the shower. From the product rinsing over your face. It is claimed many cases of Montezuma's revenge are caused by showering in the water. If you slather on hand cream with gluten then you can cause cross-contamination for all foods you consume. Very sensitive Celiacs have can give you a heads up on what is causing...
  5. You have enough reason to request that your son be seen by a specialist, pediatric gastroenterologist. If you are going to continue with the testing your son needs to continue eating gluten. (Celiac can only be diagnosed by the amount of damage.)The blood panel will probably be drawn (again), from the symptoms described the next part of testing will include...
  6. At least two of the chebe mixes contain dairy.
  7. Oops, sorry. My bad. I read too fast and missed rice on your list to avoid. I'll keep looking out for stuff. My daughter is on all top 8 allergen free + gluten free (we don't risk oats) and no peas either. (To manage the recent diagnoses of Eosinophilic Esophagitis age 6 on top of the Celiac diagnoses at 17 months) It's hard to eliminate so...
  8. A gluten challange can be dangerous. It could lead to dehydration. When the body gets dehydrated it puts stress on your internal organs. (Not to mention injuries from you passing out.) The health and life insurance coverage is another reason to think how much an official medical diagnoses will cost you. Sounds like your wife loves you very much,...
  9. I would love to give the recipe a try. Do you serve it with strawberries?
  10. You can look for Enjoy life products. They usually are free of the top 8 allegergens, so a good place for you to start.
  11. ((HUGS)) I'm so sorry for your loss.
  12. I can't handle spinach either. Eggs are hit or miss too. Raisins cause some issues. Lobster makes me vomit.
  13. cgilsing, I'm so glad you popped back on! I wanted to try and tell GinnyBean the positive things she will find on this Gluten Free journey. You did that the way I couldn't.
  14. My tongue doesn't get rings, but doesn't quite get diagnosed as Geographic tongue. It gets termed as "fractured". (Like broken and cracked.) Is the ring like a red broken groove? Maybe we should post pictures of all of our funky tongues?
  15. H. Ploryi is quite a physical obstacle. It can take a few rounds on different antibiotics. Until your treatment is finished, you will have some issues to deal with. Keep a food journal to help guide you with foods you need to avoid. Sounds like your identifying eggs as a problem food. This is gluten withdrawal symptoms too. It is not uncommon for accidental...
  16. Please use the list as an aid. READ EVERY LABEL! During holidays when candy is molded into different shapes, manufacturers tend to use more gluten. i.e. Snickers Bell (Christmas) and Heart (Valentine's day)shapes contained gluten the last time I checked.
  17. Get to a Ped. Gastro. If it is GERD, medication can help. If it is some other problem, only a specialist will be able to make the diagnoses. If it is Celiac it is your best chance for getting a diagnoses, at this age it is a difficult diagnoses. Blood tests for Celiac aren't very accurate in a patient under 24 months, and a baby's immune system is supposed...
  18. Even though the author's tone is quite snarky, it's written in a way to provoke research. It has many questions in it. Brings up cot deaths and conspiracy theories which makes it a hot topic to discuss. One more article can help one more undiagnosed Celiac. We are going to have to focus on that, even though some of these journalist's writings don't seem...
  19. I think we all get angry at different times about Celiac. People do say the most ignorant obnoxious things!!? Seeing things you crave and can not have is pretty unbearable sometimes too. Check out the threads where we talk about sniffing and smelling gluten stuff. Sounds like your family support system SUCKS. Maybe you should tell them people at...
  20. I saw the Mystery Diagnoses episode too. Read the studies that link gluten to seizures, not neccesarily Celiac Disease just a gluten intolerance. Add to that the fact that testing for Celiac is still not very accurate for patients under 24 months and this child is 19 months old. My advice, check with GIG, Gluten Intolerance Group for a refferal for a Pediatric...
  21. I would get her tested. My daughter's body was just like that. Another body feature is to have a very small, flat butt. How are her sleeping habits? Good luck with the testing. It is known fact ~ the testing is not very accurate in patients under 24 months. Hopefully that will change soon. She needs to stay on gluten during the testing. Testing...
  22. I know I shouldn't have gone looking through the site. So now I can't stop thinking about gluten free Twinkies.
  23. Welcome to the board! We have a lot of Michiganders here. Kids with Celiac Disease by Danna Korn was a very helpfull book. It has some insightful suggestions to make life easier for your little one. Great News... Piece O' Cake is in the Ann Arbor area! I don't want to get flagged for posting a website. Kinda pricey but VERY yummy gluten free goodies...
  24. Get a refferal to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. Start a food journal. This could be a food intolerance or allergy. Delayed food intoleranc or allergy can be VERY difficult and expensive to figure out. Get some practice reading food labels and determining what your child is eating. Gluten has over a page of words that mean Wheat, rye, and barley....
  25. The ped. gastro. should have told you the list of suspect issues that the endoscopy is being done to rule out or diagnose. From what I can remember... Celiac Disease H. Ployri Eosinophilic Esophagitis Yeast overgrowth/thrush malformation of the upper digestive track parasite infection The doctor MUST take biopsies! More than one biopsy even if...
