I just had another attack on Monday. Went to the ER and the wait was so long, I think I passed a stone before I ever saw the doc. They couldn't find any sign of enlarged gallbladder or appendix. I'm supossed to go in for CT scan for a closer look. Did you feel any better after getting your gallbladder out? I've been having these kinds of attacks for...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pizza - Allen Park, Michigan
mommida replied to momofcdson's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Buddy's pizza has been advertising a gluten free pizza too. I don't know if you have a location near you. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Some one said they have gluten free beer too. -
ARCHIVED Fatigue, Hunger And Blurry Vision
mommida replied to karlsthlm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hello Karl, As a Celiac you will have difficulty absorbing nutrients from the food you eat. If your iron is low (anemia) that would cause you to feel dizzy. If your iron levels are low you could have an urge to eat non food items (most common - to want to chew ice) this is called pica. Another common vitamin defiency that might cause nuerological problems... -
It might be time to get your thyroid checked. Celiac has a connection to auto-immune thyroid diseases. Thyroid problems will cause your cycle to change/become irregular. Are you having any other symptoms that you have forgotten about? Dry skin, weight loss/gain, more or less sleep, any changes in your hair, the list of symptoms is very long.

ARCHIVED Odd Reaction To Gluten Free Diet For My Teenager
mommida replied to wontgiveup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Has she been tested for any eosinophilic gastro issues. My daughter has eosinophilic esophagitis so we see the "mucus" on her tonsils. The mucus harderns into "tonsil stones" and her breath has a distinctive odor. This is not an easy diagnoses as eosinophils are supposed to be rare and it sounds like the medication she is on is lowering the white blood... -
ARCHIVED Baking For 'xmas
mommida replied to Byron of Ashwood's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My daughter is on such a strict diet, I am afraid to bring nuts into our home environment. So I'm not in a rush for the conversions yet. If we can figure out what things we can safely put back into her diet because of the Eosinophilic Esophagitis we will be lucky. I will keep you in mind for some of the recipes I am seeking that may need to be converted... -
ARCHIVED Fluid Filled & Swollen Knees, Thumbs, Ankle

I also have Hashi's and have the tendency to have sudden swelling of ankles and fingers. When this happens I take a small vitamin cocktail. Smart water for the magnesium, potasium, and fluids in general. A sublingual vitamin B12 tablet. These vitamins will flush out of your system if you do not need them. This cocktail also helps with headaches. With... -
ARCHIVED Baking For 'xmas

Hello Marcus, I am not familiar with this cake at all and had to look it up. I don't know if there are any rules that need to be followed to stay true to the religious importance. I suggest you separate the eggs. Add the yolk to the recipe where it is called for. Beat the eggwhites and fold in as the last mixing step. If you are still having texture... -
When I get glutened my stomach bloats out. My belly bloats so much it does seem like I am wearing pants that are a size too small. It is my first warning sign that I am going to be very ill, and need a bathroom quick!

ARCHIVED The Bad News Keeps Rolling In.
mommida replied to Brooklyn528's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well that is a lot going on! I have learned over the past few years not to even bother to ask if it can get any worse. Take some time to address what you are feeling. Realize you can't be guilty or wrong for feeling, for having human emotions. If you need to cry then cry, let it out. Call your best friend. Make an appointment for something fun for... -

Billy, I first want to express my sympathies for your loss. It is very hard to lose your mother, (Your biggest fan in life.) May your memories ease your grief. Sounds like Sunnie is one lucky kid! She is diagnosed and well on her way to a healthy gluten free life. Please try the gluten free diet yourself. If it makes you feel better, you have positive... -
A conspiracy from the gluten free food industry! Well I suppose that leaves us with the worms. Kidding aside, Should we start a petition through the Celiac/ Gluten intolerance groups for the drug manufacturer? If we make some noise it could the attention back to At1001 for a sale to a company that will manufacture it.

Biotin (part of the B vitamins) is reccomended for hair and nails. Ditto on the other vitamin information. -
Peas are high on the list of reaction. They didn't make it on the top eight list, but they are high on the list. So use your food journal for any possible delayed reaction.

ARCHIVED Chicken Nuggets
mommida replied to Mey Marie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We take chicken pieces and roll in a mixture of crushed potato chips. Add any spices you would like. Add parmesan cheese if your not casein free. Dip the chicken in anything your diet will allow to have the mix stick to the chicken. You can start out baking at 350 to see how you like the texture. If you like a crunchier nugget, start baking at a higher... -
Keep a food journal! Eliminate all of the top 8 and if possible peas too. Keep foods in the simplest forms. Enjoy life (chocolate chips are AWESOME!) and Cherrybrook Farms makes some edible products. Research, time, and practice and you can make really great food! Here is a recipe for cake - gluten free, egg free, casein free, nut free ...

ARCHIVED Starting Son With Autism On gluten-free Diet
mommida replied to amberlynn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Please be aware, some individuals go through gluten withdrawal. When you said he is "addicted" to bread, he really could be addicted. There are medical articles that explain gluten has an opiate effect in some individuals. I don't have much spare time right now to find the links. If you need help getting information, some one here at this site will help... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Your Baby Move?
mommida replied to jordanandnadia's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I seem to remember the first time I felt movement, it felt like butterfly wings. I had the ultrasound and saw my baby move and it was the same feeling. Every one is different. My second pregnancy I felt the movements, but others could not on my belly. The placenta was attached to the uterine wall at the outside front of my body. My husband couldn't... -
ARCHIVED Hello - New Here
mommida replied to sussarliv's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We have heard of a lot of interesting things. If you have Celiac you need to be 100% gluten free. You can go through withdrawal type symptoms. You do need to be aware of cross contamination. Believe it or not you can get glutened from kissing and non food items such as lipgloss and tooth paste. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Your Baby Move?
mommida replied to jordanandnadia's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There are so many variables to each pregnancy. Even where the placenta has attached to the uterine wall will affect how the mother can feel the baby's movements. My second baby had the hiccups every day like clockwork. Towards the end of the pregnancy you could see the shape of the foot kicking out. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a happy and... -
ARCHIVED Pamela's Cheesecake
mommida replied to minniejack's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with splurging and being able to just order something. Sometimes after all the cooking and baking I'm just too tired to enjoy eating it. So I make a double batch and freeze when I can to get instant gratification of a nice treat. -
I think you should still do the scan of the thyroid as cancer and nodules can be present. Remember that an auto-immune disease has the body's own immune system attacking the thyroid, and I would want to know the extent of that damage.
-
What do you call someone who graduated at the very bottom of the class at med school? Doctor. Why you had to run accross this Bozo!!!? I don't know. Cut your losses and find a real doctor. It is harder to diagnose the auto-immune related thyroid diseases. A Celiac has at least a 10% higher chance of having a auto-immune thyroid disease.

Hi, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is n ot an easy diagnoses. 1. You have the initial blood test done. 2. You should have a thyroid function/ uptake test performed. This is done with some radioactive pill and a geiger counter. 3. An ultasound of the thyroid. Hashimoto's has a signature enlargement to one side of the thyroid, so the actual size, shape and...
