  1. Your acid mechanism may be whacky, but you must have stomach acid in order to digest your food. This sounds like the kind of thing that should be sold next to the lact-aid and beano in the supermarket.
  2. What gfp is saying is that when you boil a liquid mixture (like mash, containing a variety of proteins that have formed from the breakup of gluten during fermentation), you cannot assume that the alcohol will evaporate without taking some of the gluten with it.
  3. I think it's the fact that we are eating more wheat products than ever that is pushing people over the edge. Two generations ago, people ate three meals a day, which included a mix of foods. In the past 20 years we have been bombarded with messages to eat more whole grains - in addition to all the grains we are currently eating - and 'fat-free' foods, which...
  4. The thing about coconut oil is that the original tests were run on a specially processed fully hydrogenated oil. Populations that eat lots of natural coconut oil are not dropping dead from its use. There are websites and groups devoted to the amazing properties of coconut oil. Personally, I think it is overblown, and like anything, just a food.
  5. Go ahead and substitute canola oil if you prefer. I did in fact use the original recipe with vegetable oil back in my pre-gluten-free days. It might make some difference, as coconut oil gives a result more like butter. Try it and see if you like it. I made a "cake flour" blend that is 3 cups white rice flour: 1 cup sweet rice flour, and 2 teaspoons xanthan...
  6. Is this the same as the popping stomach noises you've been complaining about all along or different?
  7. Corn tortillas just aren't as flexible as wheat ones. You can never wrap and fold, like a burrito or a wrap. Most often they are made into enchiladas, are fried, or just warmed and eaten on the side with a meal. The biggest ones you will find are a lot smaller than the big wheat ones that wrap so well.
  8. You should ask the surgeon what kind of adhesive he will be using. I worked with medical adhesives on an R&D project a while back, and at that time many of them were cyanoacrylates - superglue variations.
  9. I like the Open Original Shared Link myself. It is just so superior to the little ones that it's worth the extra money.
  10. Open Original Shared Link
  11. Do they have it at Walmart? That's the only store I haven't tried yet.
  12. None of the symptoms fit me. I'd have selected "joint pain" and "swelling" if they were there, though.
  13. Because I don't expect to find anything anywhere near that price. It may not be quite as good as the Le Creuset, it certainly doesn't have the warranty, but for the price it was a fabulous buy.
  14. "Farro" is either emmer or spelt, both types of wheat.
  15. I get white rice flour in 1# bags for .79 at the local Asian grocery. I understand it's available for even less at some Asian stores.
  16. I have a 7 quart oval off-brand that I use for slow-roasting beef brisket and pork shoulder, sometimes chicken or turkey leg quarters. I got it in the dollar store for $12 a few years back. That'll never happen again.
  17. Actually, they do think you're doing it to annoy them. A lot of people do behave badly to minimum wage service workers.
  18. I developed a cake flour blend which I used to make a sponge cake with last night, and it tastes great! Maybe it didn't rise quite as high, but I never made the recipe before, and I don't intend to make it with wheat flour to test it. It's tasty, has an excellent texture, and is not in the least bit dry. I buy my rice flours in the Asian market for .7...
  19. How about a hummus (chick-pea) or baba ganoush (roasted eggplant)? Or guacamole and salsa?
  20. It's a really slow site. I couldn't find any recipes there, although I tried to click every link.
  21. I object! I still live to eat, it's just not gluten products I'm enjoying. There's so much else to eat, but most people eat such a narrow diet that there'd be few of their regular foods left if they had no choice but to change. The myth is that we are Americans, we are bold and brave, adventurous and sophisticated. The reality is that most people eat...
  22. Read the laws where you live before trying this. It would be definitely illegal in my state to do this. Here hunters are only allowed to shoot one deer, and no one is allowed to have game in their freezer without a hunting license and proof that they shot and registered it themselves.
  23. A doctor sending you away with a diagnosis of IBS is like a dermatologist sending you away with a diagnosis of a "skin rash".
  24. I've belonged to lots of boards, and moderated on a few. This is the only board I've ever seen where the routine procedure is for everything to be marked a sticky after moderation, which prevents normal 'stickying' from taking place. It does have limitations.
  25. Absolutely true. How many people come here posting that they're looking for a second opinion? It doesn't mean they're looking for confirmation, it means they're looking for a different diagnosis. Considering the state of diagnosis in this country, if you want to find a negative diagnosis, you probably can even if you are positive on all tests. There...
