  1. To me quinoa is all right...not something I would eat for its taste, but it has great nutritional value.

Tinkyada is the best gluten-free pasta in my opinion--hands down.

Chebe is awesome...I've been preaching about them for over a year and it took a good eight months to get some people here to believe me, lol. :P

  2. Thanks...I sent it to everyone. The Delphi list (food) is really easy cause it's on the forum already, but this one is a little more difficult. Remember that if you want to download it yourself, you can join by going here:

    Open Original Shared Link

and then you can download it from under the files section.

Or e-mail me...or, in the future, perhaps, download it from the URL that egoslayer1 is making.

Hey, this is kind of fun, evidently there is some research that show

that Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish fairy tale writer, was a

celiac!  OK, so that's added on to the list starting with John F.

Kennedy.  Does anybody else know of famous individuals who supposedly or

    actually are celiac?

OK, OK, believe it or not... (maybe we should check on Ripley, too?)

  4. Pedicure...that's feet, right? Ya... well, gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin (or nails for that matter) so unless you stick your feet in your mouth or something, there shouldn't be a problem. Hands...could be a problem since it could find its way into your mouth if you bite your nails or it chips off or I don't know...

  5. celiac3270,

Wow! I can't believe there is not ONE Walmart in NYC!!!!! That's amazing!!

p.s. I hope these changes are taking effect in Canada also..... going to have to check on that......

    Karen

OK...I had been thinking for the past year(s) that Walmart is stupid...they could make a mint off of the 10 million highly compacted customer base of the 5 boroughs... I know why they're nowhere, now. Read this in the paper a few days ago....

Some people decided (people also in the grocery industry) that Walmart was bad for the city--probably because Walmart, though not considered a grocery store, sells 1/5 of the US groceries. So these people who decided this, of course, don't want a big chain swamping their grocery stores...even though New Yorkers want the cheap prices (or gluten-free food).

  6. Yes, that's a good book. I think, though, that that type of book is something that's intended to alleviate your child's concerns by showing that this person in the book is doing this diet and is healthy, happy, fine, etc.

An adult's celiac book would be way too complicated for a five-year-old to understand--and what five-year-old needs to know the complex structure of the gluten or what research is going on or which means of serologic testing is most effective? At the same time a child's would not explain things...enough. So I think there is no substitution for your own knowledge and telling your child what pertains to his or her situation.

  7. I see an avatar of a stick figure man holding a hammer--in gray w/ a white background. Oh, and the guy's torso is covered in gray spots--kinda like chicken pox, lol.

Technically, no, you can't have 2 at once, but with some people, it may take awhile for your new one to show up, in which case people could be seeing older versions of your avatar for some time.

You do not need to have an avatar.

Not really sure what you mean about the last question. You can search for avatars, you can choose not to have an avatar, etc.

  8. Red Sox....

I live in NY, but here are my problems with the teams here. The Mets...well, they stink. And I have just never found them interesting to watch, nor do I particularly like anyone on their team. The Yankees aggravate me to no end. A few reasons:

    1. It's boring to watch the same team win every year.

    2. They just buy out all the talent in the league, rather than spending their money wisely.

    3. They overpay people, such as Derek Jeter (by 10 million in baseball standards--that is to say, for the job he's doing, he'd still be overpaid minus 10 million dollars) and drive up the market for such players. If Jeter is worth an extra 10 million, then Garciaparra feels that he is, too. And that makes it that much harder for smaller teams.

    4. Low moral standards for keeping Giambi after the steroid incident. The most common reply to that is, "Hey, well the Giants kept Bonds." Well, the Giants are low, too.

    5. I just don't like the players on their team. Though many will swear to the contrary, I think Jeter is cocky...a bit of an egomaniac, though he may put on a pretense not to be. I strongly dislike Giambi for obvious reasons, and there are little problems I have with each player, that I'm not going to bother to attempt to explain. I respect that Cano is a talented 2nd baseman for a rookie and respect Jorge Posada as a catcher who was underrated until recently (though he's still not in the same league as Varitek offensive or defensively), but other than that, I don't like them.....

  9. I'm starting my freshman year of high school... I'm also 14, turning 15 in January. I was diagnosed in 7th grade...at first they were curious as to what the diet was, what happened if I ate gluten, what gluten is, etc. Then it was just celiac3270 eating his gluten-free food...normal. Staring high school, I'm just going to answer people if they ask me what I'm eating, etc., but not make a big deal about it.

If anyone teases you or makes a joke or a nasty comment about your food, and you make them really think about what they're saying, they'll sound like a moron. Seriously, that's like laughing at someone because they have a peanut allergy or lactose intolerance...jeez. I don't expect to find another Celiac--it would be really cool if I did, but I'm fine. I feel independent and self-sufficient with the whole gluten thing. And there are always my friends here.

  10. Yeah...I wouldn't touch oats with a ten foot pole. Well, I would, but then I'd clean the pole before using it for anything else.

It would be natural that you eat less after going gluten-free.....you're absorbing your nutrients, so you don't need to eat as much.

  11. Sure... :P

Click on the "0 comments" (or however many: 1, 2, 3 comments, etc.) Then scroll to the bottom and click on fast reply or add reply. Fast reply just means that it doesn't open a new page--just a little box--you type it in and add the reply. This is ideal for shorter messages...or hit add reply and type as in a regular post.

  12. I know. They keep replaying that tape of him speaking to congress and going "I have never taken sterioids" on ESPN. He goes from saying "NO WAY" to the allegations to..."maybe it happened accidentally" to "I made a mistake" (is that an admission of guilt)?

  13. Absolutely...all M&Ms are gluten-free except for the Crispy ones in the blue package. That includes plain, peanuts, etc. I just finally managed to get to this webpage... but Kristina and I were IMing and she asked in the IM and I said yeah, and I told her to say we convened and came to that conclusion, but she said no, it would make us seem like dorks, so now that I'm here I can say it.

<<SKIP THE ABOVE AND READ BELOW>>

All gluten-free except for Crispy in blue package (includes plain, peanuts, etc.)

  14. OOOOhh... at the GIG conference I saw an exhibit for some book that's coming out about celiac dining (or has it just come out?)--what you can eat w/ diff cuisines, traveling, eating out, etc. Don't recall the name--I'll probably read about it somewhere soon.
