  1. Oh, I see. I had heard about the incident referred to a few days after it happened, but I was afraid something else had happened during my few days away.
  2. I'm not eating them for now. I am just slightly confused over the whole thing, so I am not going to take any risks. I actually had their fries 2-3 days after they enacted their new system and didn't get sick, but they may not have completely shifted yet. With the conflicting and muddled information (contain wheat by definition, but safe because it's removed...
  3. If it meets the CODEX standard, but contains wheat, it's probably "WHEAT STARCH," which is considered gluten-free in Europe.
  4. Yes--some people claim not to see it at all. I'm not sure why....
  5. Hey, did you see the McD's thread? Dining/eating out section. Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss it.
  6. Laura, what happened to Richard?
  7. Just saw this topic--Congrats! And at least we now know you'll still be posting and staying awhile.
  8. From the listserv, though:
  9. Tomatoes are on their gluten-free list, I think. Speaking of which, I discovered a whole slew of gluten-free condiments. You guys might want to check them out if you're interested in eating a meal there again
  10. The ketchup's fine if that's what you mean. Whoopee! I can go to McD's and have ketchup packets and salt! And if I really want to go all out, I can try the pepper or the honey, also gluten-free.
  11. Thank you for posting that, though, Joanna. All the questions I would have asked had I called before you had. I will still write a letter, though.
  12. I'm upset because I relied on them as a security layer-- in other words, when you're starving in the middle of nowhere with no gluten-free food, at least there's McD's... no longer. And I feel deceived/betrayed by them (see the phone conversations thread).
  13. Caramel color can contain gluten, but most often does not. In Coke products, it does not. Dextrose is sugar, so it is never gluten-containing. You might be confusing it with dextrin, which can be made of corn or wheat. Well, CODEX is what Europe goes by and they're miles ahead of us. Since the Europeans are not all experiencing continuing symptoms...
  14. I remember going on there to try to help some misinformed people... and they wouldn't hear it-- Doctors don't know anything, they're dumb, we know more, it worked for me, do a triple liver flush and slowly reintroduce gluten, etc. I think one guy listened to me, though, cause he e-mailed me later asking for more info.
  15. A simple definition: a milk protein. There are tests your dr. can do to see if you have a problem--and you can test yourself by cutting it out and seeing how you feel or adding a lot and looking to see if you have a reaction to it. It could very possibly be casein instead of lactose....
  16. I propose another letter-writing campaign. I already outline all of my ideas, and I will create two and post them when I'm done. One that is scathing, nasty, etc.--get out my anger. The other will try to play on sympathy and be respectful, but dissatisfied (the rational letter that's not as fun to write). RALLY THE TROOPS--WHIP OUT THE PENS AND PAPER...
  17. Oh Jeez...
  18. Diarrhea is not necessary for a celiac diagnosis by any means--there are over 212 symptoms and diarrhea is not even the most common of them! Definitely get him tested.
  19. I haven't seen the advertisement on this site for that doctor. You may have just misworded it, but are you saying that he actually claims to "cure" celiac? Curing it is absolutely impossible no matter what anyone tells you (at least at this point in time). There are hoaxes all over for pills that allow you to eat gluten without getting sick and the like...
  20. Don't worry about it. I had a 2nd endo, and I was afraid of the same thing. If there is damage from contamination, then at least you know about it and can monitor progess via bloodwork every few months (which isn't bad at all--I've done that dozens of times in the past 2 yrs.).
  21. I'm really excited that this one's coming...

  24. Well, about a catchy letterhead phrase, Dr. Green's new book is called Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic. So as long as it's not in violation of some copyright/trademark law to use that phrase, that would be a good one. There are basically three levels for increasing awareness among physicians: 1) Doctors themselves -- pretty ineffective, but it...
