I found this here on this website: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-16106481746.ad People with Cereal Allergies Warned of Cola Risk Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 1999;96:11482-11485. (Celiac.com 04/10/2000) Spanish researchers, including Dr. Alicia Armentia Medina from the Hospital Rio Hortega in Valladolid, Spain...

ARCHIVED Wheat Allergy Versus Celiac?
shai76 replied to Karen D.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am allergic to wheat and oats, and I also have the celiac antibodies. Perhaps she has both, especially if the aunt is blood related. My son (2) get hives. I think he takes after me with the food allergies, and possibly the celiac disease. I put him on zyrtec and that helped the hives tremendously, but he got tired during the day. I hated how it effected... -
Armetta, I also get wheezy from pop. I react to Pepsi as well as Coke, and Sprite. It seems all colas cause problems for me as well. I have similar allergies to you. I thought it was wheat in the caramel color, but I guess not. I will be curious to know what you find out. Maybe I will learn why I get asthma problems from pop too.

ARCHIVED Sometimes I Wonder If I Don't Have Celiac Disease
shai76 replied to shai76's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I had some spelt bread last month and I had a violent reaction to it. I even thought I was going to crap my pants. Ever since I was a kid I would get tummy aches, at least once a month, and feel like I have to go and not be able to and then when I finally did I couldn't stop. I don't know if that was from my food allergies, or a sign of celiac disease... -
Yes, that is your belief because you choose to believe a source that says we need more protein than the average perosn uses. According tot he FDA daily protein requirements for an adult are between 0.6 - 0.8 grams of protein for every 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) of body weight. Sorry, but I really don't buy what you are selling. I'm not even a vegetarian...

ARCHIVED Sometimes I Wonder If I Don't Have Celiac Disease
shai76 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know I am allergic to wheat and oats. When I would eat those things I would have asthma attacks and hives, but not too terrible stomach problems. Sometimes a belly ache, but rarely any D. I am just confused. The first time I had a blood test a couple years ago the doctor said it was slightly positive, but my new doctor showed it to me and it said "NEGATIVE... -
When I was in college I worked at Arbies and there was no serperate fryer for stuff with wheat in it. There was a fryer for fries and one for chicken...that' about it. I don't trust people enough anymore to go out. I've ended up sick too many times. It sucks, but what can you do? It's either take the risk of being sick, or just bring a packed lunch.

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Take Prevacid?
shai76 replied to mart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've heard about some inconclusive studies on antacids causing food allergies but not PPIs. It will be interesting to read. I don't think going off the medication without talking to your GI doc is a good idea though. Some people, like myself and my son, get dysphagia and asthmatic reactions to GERD so going off the meds is not an option. I've weighed the... -
Bully4You, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I'm not a vegetarian, but I admire anyone who does it for ethical reasons. I definitly believe everyone should try to buy local and organic whenever possible. That's something I feel strongly about. Yep, and the majority of that soy is fed to livestock, and then YOU eat it. So either way you are getting...

Soy allergy was virtually unheard of before the 1980s because that is when scientists began to genetically modify it. It is on the list of top allergens because the genetically modified version of soy increased it's toxic properties (all vegetable food is acapable of having increased toxic properties through genetic modification). Fish is in the top allergens...

I'm just saying that your opinion follwed by anecdotal evidence does not qualify as "proof" of anything. You could share some articles from peer reviewed journals perhaps. And the here-say opnion of an anestesiologist is not scientific proof. Anestesiolgists are not nutritionists nor are they required to complete a course in nutrition. Doctors are not even...

Hypoallergenic means less likely to cause an allergic reaction. It doesn't mean it can not. And yes, rice is less likely to cause an allergic reaction then many other foods.
-
Just because soy can be an allergen for some people does not make it bad for everyone, just those allergic to it. Some people are allergic to peanuts, does that mean it's bad for everyone? You will die if you eat rat poisoning. Unless you are allergic to soy you won't die. It's actually good for your body in many ways. As far as I can tell "soy...

Actually soy does not contain estrogen, it contains the plant equivilant of the female hormone, Animal products also contain hormones because animals have hormoones as well. If you eat animals or plants you are also consuming their hormones. There is no way to seperate the hormones from your food. Soy hormones, as well as that of many other plants, help...

Mercola is a quack. He definitly has an agenda and is anti anything that doesn't fit into his diet. You can buy his book to find out all about it. That's what he really wants. Soy is no more bad for you than anything else. Everything in moderation. You can eat a moderate, well-balanced vegetarian diet just as easily as a omnivore diet. People, for some reason...

If I were you I would concentrate on eliminating just the things you tested positive for. After a few months try introducing one at a time into your diet and then you will know what you are reacting to and how badly. If you reactions are really life threatening make sure you talk to your doctor before doing anything! Food allergies can be very dangerous...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Take Prevacid?
shai76 replied to mart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Actually proton pump inhibitors, such as prevacid, do not close off the esophageal sphincter, they shut off some of the acid pumps (proton pumps) in the stomach there by reducing the amount of stomach acid. They are completely harmless and normally the most common side effect (if any) can be diarrhea, but I imagine constipation too because a lot of the other... -
armetta, no need to apologize. I understand your frustrations. It's hard living like that. I really hope you find something to help youf eel better.
-
I'm sorry Armetta. Please don't be so angry. I was just trying to help. I've had life long anaphelectic allergies and reflux disease so I thought my ideas could be valued on this topic. It's not that I don't WANT to go into a restaurant. I can't. I can die from being in the same room as milk products cooking. I would love to go to a restaurant, but I do...

I have life threatening allergies as well. I am receiving immunotherapy for my environmental allergies, and that seems to be helping me all around. But if you are that allergic to stuff you should really watch the inactive ingredients in your meds. You don't take Advair, do you? It contains milk proteins. My doc was outta town (serving in Iraq, actually)...

ARCHIVED I Am A Weenie, Please Help Me Be Not So Nervous
shai76 replied to powderprincess's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm happy for you it went ok. Now that it is over, I'll tell you about my BAD experience. It was awful. First they laughed at me when I told them about all my allergies and said "what makes you think you have food allergies???" I told them to look at my chart, I've had extensive testing, and they STILL did not take me seriously. They got mad that I insisted... -
ARCHIVED Allergy Vs. Celiac
shai76 replied to nursestherapies's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
errrrrrr That makes me so mad. Doctors should realize that you know more about your body than they do. And if he is not a specialist you probably are more educated on your disease then he is. My sister is an RN and they taught her at school that the patient usually knows more abour their disease and their bodys than you do, so listen to them! I hate it... -
Try eating lots of good fats, like olives and salmon and different oils. I don't know what to tell you about the hair. I didn't start losing weight until about amonth before going gluten free, now I am having trouble shedding the rest of my weight. But I did have a problem with my hair falling out. Instead of getting bald spots it would just grow back curlier...

The technical term for it is dysphagia. Make an appointment with your gastroenterologist right away and have them scehdule a modified barium swollow and/or a endoscopy. I get the same thing. It's probably not Barrets esophagus (a pre-cancerous condition) but could be esophagitis. I get it, so does my son, because we have long term LPR reflux. It can also...

Allergies can cause low blood pressure. That's what causes anaphelectic shock. Blood pressure goes to low resulting in shock and even coma. I've seen mine go down to 60/40. Be careful and talk to your doctor about it.
