ARCHIVED Santa Cruz Surf Kayak Contest -
miles2go replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Geoff, Glad you had such fun and did so well, in spite of the compromises! You would have laughed if you saw the rerun of Seinfeld that I saw just this afternoon. Jerry was talking about how the ocean doesn't really want us in there, like surfing is the big eject thing. You paddle out and then the waves are like bouncers at a bar, saying "oh no... -
ARCHIVED Have You Guys Heard About The Pet Food?
miles2go replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So here's a theory: Rats and other rodents tend to congregate in areas of food storage that are not well-attended by humans, like grain bins, bird feeders and fast food restaurant garbage bins. Farmer A is really a conglomerate and Farmer B is a small, sustainable, perhaps organic farmer. Farmer A has a rodent problem and puts out rat poison. Farmer... -
ARCHIVED Have You Guys Heard About The Pet Food?
miles2go replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From what I understood from the bit on NBC Nightly News just a while ago, it was rat poison-contaminated wheat gluten that was the source. My head is reeling, partly because of all the jokes that we make regarding rat poison and gluten, but also from the fact that I lost my 16 year-old kitty last summer to renal failure and my rebound kitty who is just as... -
Is it really right when the last thing you ingested becomes spackled to that last food vessel that you used?

Thanks, I've got the Pepto and am not at the point where I feel the need to reach for it, but...not buying those chips again!! Margaret -

I think I should have posted this to the ingredients list instead. Would a moderator mind moving it, if deemed appropriate? Sorry! Margaret -
ARCHIVED Lay's Kc Masterpiece Potato Chips
miles2go posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am pretty sure, no almost positive, that I just got glutened by a small bag of these chips. I researched them on the web before buying them from the vending machine and read that they're processed on a line that's washed between products, so there's a risk for cc, but Lay's is touting them as gluten-free. I was a little dismayed to see that pesky "natural... -

I think I may have lost my golden retriever that hiked with me for a while on the trail to that. He had the classic bull's-eye rash and then died a year later while running with my dad. I think it may have been carditis; the medical diagnosis was heat exhaustion. Maybe not, but he was a great dog. Sad times... I hope you start feeling better, soon!!... -
ARCHIVED So Jerry Is Very Frustrated....

14 months gluten-free and then wham! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...and from what I've read, it may or may not get better with time. -

Ursa, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for overlooking this statement of yours embedded in a somewhat lengthy post. I don't think we're in disagreement here at all, I was misunderstanding you to be saying to wait on the cancer issue. Tarnalberry, sorry likewise if you thought I was putting words in your mouth. CarlaB, sorry that you're so sick, I really... -
I remember quite distinctly when I was getting the "stomach flu" quite a lot. That wasn't that long ago. Really glad you've decided to try the gluten-free. Can't believe there's another one of ya. And whoever said it, sorry can't remember, but men who cook are HOT, (maybe not necessarily in aprons, unless they're particularly studly aprons).

miles2go replied to Annnettem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So, I am trying to follow this line of thought with you and Tarnalberry. It is your thinking that vitamin deficiencies are more immediately important than cancer diagonses? -
ARCHIVED Need Help And Advice Please....really Sick
miles2go replied to Annnettem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here is what is blowing my mind and I mean absolutely no disrespect to anyone, especially you, Annette. It is extremely rare for people in 1st world countries to be deficient in magnesium or Vitamin K, although it is possible. I'm anemic and have been for who knows how long, currently I'm on 3 iron tabs a day per doctor's orders and will be for at least... -

I could not disagree more. I think Annette needs to attend to her cancer first. JMHO Margaret -

ARCHIVED Two Questions From A Newbie

P.S. It is pouring snow, sleet and freezing rain here in Maine today, so I'm self-dx crotchedy. I'm heading to cook a corned-animal. Happy St. Patty's Day everybody. Margaret -

[[*]if you find that you're just wide awake for a long time in bed, get up and do something, don't stay in bed Tarnal, I'm with you on all of the above suggestions, except for this one. I've found mixed results with meself ranging from okay, I'm just going to "sleep" behind the closed eyes to getting the lights on and reading something for a while... -

Just a quick mention, I've been tested for both the thyroid and Lyme disease via blood tests. Are there false negatives? -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Liver Enzymes?
miles2go replied to DElizabethE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Diane, I'm certainly no expert on the liver, other than a few college biology courses, but have had somewhat elevated liver enzymes for a couple of years. I can't read my lab reports well enough to tell if they're going up or down, but I had an abdominal sonogram just a couple of weeks ago and the results were, according to my doctor, "perfectly normal... -

Hi Annette, Yes, I've been there and done everything that you mentioned except for the milk and eggs problem, although I have plenty of other allergies to keep me entertained. Are you sure that you've got cervical cancer, or is it just a problematic pap smear? That would need to be taken care of first, imho. I have never had a positive dx of celiac... -
ARCHIVED Two Questions From A Newbie

Ditto with the hard-boiled eggs and when I'm feeling a little chefy, I make them into deviled eggs. There is something sublime about the combination of eggs and tomatoes. One thing that hasn't been mentioned...I really like soup and congee for breakfast. Something about the warmth and subtle flavors that's just a little bit more than your usual bowl of... -
Meh, that's the way that I see it. If you like bread, then you'll learn to bake it. If you like bowling, then you'll learn to bowl. I don't happen to like bowling, so I bake bread...and hike, kayak, bike, read, etc.
