  1. That's about all you can do - my daughter gets the sickest if she get gluten (evena smidge). Advil for the migaine, yogurt and banana, chicken and rice soup of she feels up to it, basically small meals (snacks really) when she feels hungry and rest (she usually gets tired too)
  2. Lordy does this sound familiar, my husband survives on eggs/toast or eggs and frozen waffles or sandwiches. Subway and take out. (he's not celiac) I used to go to the trouble you talk about - made lasgana, homemade soup, chili, and made sure there was eggs as back up. The chili was in the frig 3 days before he found it .. ...sigh..... it was behind something...
  3. and another "good job" to you. You may want to rephrase the definition when she is older perhaps. Cerebral palsy is not a disease but it is brain damage to the motor area of the brain. People with Cerebral palsy often have normal intelligence but speech is altered (in severe damage, they are non verbal). The muscles are fine - they just dont get the right...
  4. I'm getting confused a bit too. Your kids were taken away and placed in "foster care" (?) - which it turned out was your sister-in-law who believes you are making up celiac disease. So CPS has never heard of celiac either?? They would place children in the home of a woman who is not a registered foster home - was she screened to see if it was a suitable environment...
  5. I can only answer for my daughter - she will get a migraine/stoamch ache wuthin 1 -2 hrs after exposure. Once it was inhaled gluten (playing in an empty grain bin with cousins on a farm) - she got a headache within an hour and felt crappy (fatigue, headcahe, tummy ache) for the next 24 hours

    ARCHIVED Boils?

My daughter would get up to 3 at a time - in her scalp or along her hairline and once on her back. Only one small one since going gluten-free. She was on gluten-free for about 6 months before they stopped - until her intestine healed, I am assuming.
  7. As far as I know - I cant think of any large or small bowel disorders that start with *V. Diverticulosis is a possiblity (*D instead of *V) Whipples disease - but hat is more common in men. The large intestine cant really "attack" the small intestine - but disorders of one can affect the other. I have included info on Diverticulosis as that sounds like...
  8. I also have never heard ofa mild case of celiac - its kinda like being "a little pregnant". My kid's GI doc refered to the changes on my daughters biopsy as mild to moderate but followed that by ...conclusive evidence of celiac disease. The biopsy had patchy areas... My son's biopys was severe with subtotal villous atrophy on all biopsies taken from the...
  9. I hope that you can get someone to help you. A suggestion though - you keep talking about "the lies" in the reports etc. I am not doubting you at all - words have been twisted and for whatever reason, things were written in reports that have no basis. Maybe keep to the facts - show the results of testing so far, and that appts with other doctors were referrals...
  10. We recommend distilled water for pets with kidney or bladder disease, or a history of bladder stones (in combo with prescription diet for stones). I have seen info posted on sites which amused me:[ According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, "Distilled water, being essentially mineral-free, is very aggressive, in that it tends to dissolve substances...
  11. Candida is an "opportunist" infection - yeast is normally found in the body - in small numbers. Infections, stress, autoimmune disorders create the environment that yeast loves - and it overgrows - thus causing infection. There are umteen different causes of this from antibiotics to illness to hormone imbalance. ...and yes, once it happens you have to correct...
  12. You are very welcome. Be prepared for some testing - they cannot diagnose it in one office visit without ruling out other things. (my daughter had to have "psychoeducational profile" among other things. It varies according to doctors and the patient's symptoms as to what tests are needed. One important thing - does he make eye contact or look off to the side...
  13. Your son sounds very much like Aspergers, all your questions should be answered on the link I posted - it has all sorts of info about diagnostics etc. The speech pattern you describe is not uncommon wth aspergers. It may be a word retrieval issue or something called echolalia. As I described, my daughter has trouble with conversation, and to relate an event...
  14. My heart goes out to you, I have seen stories on 20/20 about children with medical conditions that were taken from families - authorities were convinced that the family was making the kids ill, only to find out months later that the child HAD a rare condition (or sometimes not so rare). These are some sites I found - google: munchausen misdiagnosis and...
  15. Many diseases can occur more commonly together - diabetics have increased chance of being hypothyroid, celiac and hypothyroidism can occur in the same individual, there are known genetic links for all autoimmune disease and if one family member has one - then relatives are ina higer risk group. It isnt just celiac disease that has this "link", also different...
  16. Were you wondering about false neg with celiac only, or the thyroid tests? My daughter tested in normal range when she was an infant and again at 2 yrs. By the time she was 4 - her TSH was over 900 (normal is under 4) and her T4 was 5 (normal is over 12) and she had developed myxedema. If your child is symptomatic then one would expect low levels of thyroid...
  17. and a source in Canada is: Open Original Shared Link Good web site that also talks about celiac and oats
  18. With hypotonia and constipation, they should also check the thyroid. They likely have for your child but in case others are reading this - hypothyroidism can cause constipation, dry skin, fatigue and hypotonia. short stature...
  19. Our daughter was tested for Prader Willi as well. I have seen threads here discussing weight loss and others presuming the person had bulemia or anorexia. My daughter was bloated and overweight, one dcotor called her fat and told me she should exercise. Yup, exercise is real fun when you are tired and have headache and a stomache ache! She slimmed down within...
  20. In post 25 on this thread, I relayed info - the church (ok, well Alberta) does have a policy and way of dealing with celiacs. When I contacted the Calgary Catholic Office of the Bishop. They had a policy in place and we use a separate chalice. perhaps if anyone had questions or suggestions, contact the nuns who have made it their goal for the past 10 years...
  21. mmm I am going to try the recipes posted here! Campbells Healthy request clam chowder is gluten-free (and the kids give it thumbs up - and they can be picky!)
  22. I have 2 children and both are celiac. Myself and husband were tested and were neg, but I felt way better once I started eating gluten-free along with the children.
  23. Elevated liver enzymes are associated iwth celiaic disease. I will find the link and add to this post as soon as I can. Then you can show the doctor. After gluten-free diet - the enzymes usually return to normal. I apologize as this article is very "medical" and many terms may be foreign to you. BUT it wil be in the terms your doctor understands. plus...
