ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
2kids4me replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes there is enough in it to make you feel sick. Just CC in the wine made my daughter ill starting within hours of church. We have separate chalice and they only receive the wine without any pieces of the eucharist added (no cc) -
ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
2kids4me replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope that the original question has been answered in a way that has been helpful. I too asked why Bernice had the view she did - I have heard that view before - about why God would allow suffering and still be considered a loving God... I feel sad too that Bernice does not see the loving God that others do - but my faith only developed as an adult... -

I would be interested in hearing why you think that. My opinion is also based on feedback from Bishop Frederick Henry, our priest and the following information: (from: Open Original Shared Link ) Religion is always hot topic - I am not meaning to stir the pot, just interested in other peoples' point of view. -
ARCHIVED Why Do People Think I Am Crazy?
2kids4me replied to aprilh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree totally that you should not doubt yourself. Others have issues with those that have "invisible illness" for some unknown reason. If they cant see some outward sign - a cast, a limp, a deformity - well then it must be in your m...ind I was avoided by my siblings and my mother kept telling me to "enjoy the kids and dont worry so much, they're fine... -
ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
2kids4me replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I imagine He does. Consider the teachings of Jesus and his disciples while He was here - to follow his path.. to treat your body as temple, to take care of the life you were given. Now imagine the Last Supper - and Jesus finds out there is celiac at His table. Now Jesus would know that any gluten would cause harm to the body of this person. Jesus offers... -

The rite of Communion is an important one. The priest in our church uses a separate chalice for the children, they receive it at the side of the altar. According to the Bishop (in Alberta) - receiving either the Body or the Blood is fine - you do not have to receive both. If you watch the rite of communion, a small piece of the large host is broken off... -
ARCHIVED Ok...i Was All Ready To Buy A New Toaster ... Then
2kids4me replied to Lymetoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow I never thought of a double toaster! I would be interested in the brand name as well. We have 2 separate toasters and I wrote gluten-free in big letters with a permanent marker on the gluten-free one. For a double toaster - just mark it with permanent marker on thje side you want gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Headaches
2kids4me replied to sclark9602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are so many causes of headaches - cc would be one...but hormones out of whack, low selenium / calicum or trace minerals can cause headaches (which wouldnt be uncommon in a celiac)... not drinking enough water, you name it - the head can respond with pain to issues anywhere in the body. Good luck with the appt I hope they investigate it thouroughly... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
2kids4me replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes we live in Nanton, The new bakery is Terracotto and they make awesome muffins and pizza crusts. The kids still prefer Kinnickinnick Tapioca bread that I make fresh. They have premade lasagna trays etc. They made a batch of muffins for me without raisons and I assume they would do special requests if you ask, I have been told the secret to moist gluten... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
2kids4me replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
and guess what happned to me after my daughter had her appendix out? She could stomach jello and they asked for an easy to digest gluten-free food tray... after offering her regular toast! My daughter had to remind the nurses more than once that she was celiac... ok, actually I understand that they have a full load of kids to take care of and they can forget... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
2kids4me replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ER cant test for allergies, they can treat an allergic reaction..but I do know that labs only do basic stuff after hours. They can do a lot of lab work after hours but not allergey testing. Same is true for vet medicine. Allergy testing is sent to specific labs (open Mon - Fri in the day). It also requires follow up from a doctor so the referral is best... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
2kids4me replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually I have never said I was a vet - my HUSBAND is the vet. I am an animal health technologist and have also published articles about many diseases in companion animals. My experience with immune mediated disease is first hand as well as researched in medical texts and talking with experts in the field. I ask many questions. My husband has collegues... -
ARCHIVED Dr.s Are Frustrating Me...
2kids4me replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess I could have just left this one alone - but how dare you imply that we - in essence - only "claim" to have disease. Every disease listed for myself and my children were diagnosed conclusively by doctors. Celiac is one of the immune mediated diseases and can/often does co-exist with other immune medated disease and due to the damage in the intestine... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know How Muscles Work
2kids4me replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The body is an amazing complex machine and looks like all of you are aware of metabolism. As a side note - when looking for energy, if no glucose is readily available (starvation or lack of insulin or malabsorbtion) - it first turns to glycogen, once those stores are used (or not available due to lack of insulin -as in Type 1 diabetes) - it then turns to... -
Keflex is a powerful antibiotic and one that you needed but unfortunately it can also kill the good bacteria that keep the gut functioning properly and C Diff is an "opportunist" - it takes over when the environment is "right". That can happen when the balance of normal flora is affected by antibiotics. Flagyl will help both the lining of the gut as well...

ARCHIVED Diabetes Dx
2kids4me replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My heart goes out to you, I know it seems like an old saying - but things will get better. The hardest part for me was waiting to find out and then dealing with the initial aftermath. It is good that you came here. posted and are looking for support - I felt so alone one year and I even asked my children's doctor - is there a support group for parent of kids... -
This should help, can the primary care doctor not order these tests?? IgA class endomysial antibodies are very specific, occuring only in celiac disease and DH. These antibodies are found in approximately 80% of patient with DH and in essentially 100% of patients with active celiac disease. IgA endomysial antibodies are more sensitive and specific than...

ARCHIVED Another Newbie....working Backwards...hypotonia?
2kids4me replied to noodles mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is another thread under :Related disorders and research about hyptonia. I will copy my replies to that post here too in hope they help you. My daughter has celiac diagnosed in 2003 (she is 13 now). She was born floppy and hypotonic at 36 weeks, had physio from baby hood on ( and also OT, speech and daily living skills).... at 1 year old her legs... -
The muscle biopsy came back with some changes possibly indicating Spinal Muscular Atrophy.. it took 6 months to get the DNA results that ruled it out but for those 6 months we thought she had degenerative neuromuscular condition. Been a roller coaster. The tests did rule out a lot of conditions that cause hypotonia. She also has Hypothyroidism (diagnosed...

B12 deficiency can cause the symptoms you describe. Taking oral doses will not help if you have "pernicious anemia" - B12 is absorbed when cells in your stomach (gastric parietal cells) produce a factor (intrinsic factor) that allow B12 to be absorbed - In pernicious anemia the gastic parietal cells have been damaged/destroyed by the immune system and is...

She used a walker for 6 months prior to that. After genetic testing for all things that can cause hypotonia, MRI, CT scan, EMG, EEG, muscle biopsy, blood and urine workup ..... she was diagnosed...

ekatherine and Ursula - we should start a support chat for each other - a venting place!! I could tell you stories too - that would make -people say - LEAVE HIM! My husband can be a jerk and he is passive aggressive (I encourage you to look that one up and you will find characteristics you find familiar) but at the same time - he is not physically abusive... -

[ OMG How did you know! One year I got a rock inside a box (so i would think he bought me something) and the note said - good for one weekend getaway. I actually got excited and said when do you want to go? - he replied - well you plan it and I'll come. I have had him cancel out before at the last minute so didnt put myself through the planning part... -

Holy Cow! That's my mom too. She bashes the kids/grandkids who do not write her. Phonecalls dont count apparently because if they really loved her they'd know how much the letters mean - it means someone took the time to write. The kids who write to her get treated differently. Also - I recognize some of the personality traits of your husband. Mine is...
