ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice Badly!
2kids4me replied to mommy2ky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, blood glucose testing is the same as sugar levels. gluten-free yogurt, bananas, rice, popsicles (gluten-free of course) can all help to settle your tummy and ease the diarrhea. You can get weak and dizzy from so many things.... from dehydration to anemia to electrolyte imbalance. You could try drinking pedialyte - it is a balanced electrolyte solution... -
ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice Badly!
2kids4me replied to mommy2ky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So much going on - I know the feeling! Even though the blood work was negative - it would seem that you respond badly to gluten. I need B 12 shots too - without them I am so tired - I am useless, plus I get pins and needles and numbness, I drop things etc. Be sure to get them every month. Hypothyroidism takes about 4 - 6 weeks to respond to the meds... -
We can never wean her off her meds. She has no function left - completely hypothyroid. She needs the hormone to grow and have normal menstrual cycles. Yes once HYPERthyroid tissue has been removed or has been treated with radioactive isotopes then it may not require meds. Also adults may be able to experiment. Children should not.

2kids4me replied to Byte Me's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If your husband had a penchant for making rat poision at home would you use the same pans and coat them in tin foil? Of couse you can eat far more rat poision than gluten without being sick but replace this with the noixious subtance of your choice Whoa now. What I meant by coating the pans with tin foil is that I use the same pans as I had before, I... -

ARCHIVED Is It Absolutely Necessary To Buy All New Stuff?

I have 2 children with celiac....do all my baking gluten free but have husband who likes his gluten. All I did was buy a second toaster that is dedicated gluten-free. if my husband wants gluten baking - I buy it from the store /bakery. Wheat flour etc is just too"poofy" and the dust creates problems - so I only keep gluten-free flours. I kept all the pans... -
I don't mind at all, it was a really sweet gesture and everyone that does know has been laughing about it with me everytime they come by my desk for a treat.

We did that for about a year with my daughter when she was younger - one dose was too low and the next was too high - we alternated and it worked out great. Her levels were just right.
-
Well, you will be popular today! Sounds like someone trying to do something nice for someone else without realizing you couldn't eat them. It's kinda like a "Murphys Law" thing where if there was one celiac in the room, the person holding the gluten treats will find them! I have had the same thing happen in hospitals - my daughter was recently hospitalized...

It is great that he is coming around. My husband has been supportive - but it only started after he did some reading too. You see, I had done research and taken the kids to doctor appt while he worked - he didnt have the background info I had. It wasnt until he came to the pre-biopsy appt and the GI showed him pictures of damaged villi and had celiac explained...

You can try getting some acidophyllus from a health food store. It is kept in the fridge and you can take it with juice or whatever - it helps repopulate and restore the normal good bacteria in the intestine. My daughter had a chronic problem with yeast rash on her inner thigh - I got the acidophyllus and it helped. Eating yogurt (plain is best - you can...

Celiac disease was the hardest in terms of diet adjustment and learning to read labels. Diabetes with my son was the hardest because ot the lifelong implications. Our school has Pizza day too. I either bring in a gluten-free pizza at lunch for them or send one. make sure you have been checked for hypothyroidism or pernicious anema (B12 deficiency). Either condition will leave you tired ... Lack of B12 can be a result of poor absorbtion or destruction of the parietal cells that are needed to absorb this vitamin. I had a lot of problems with bloating and a feeling of being "unwell" before I found out I needed shots... -
