ARCHIVED Need A Crash Course In Type Ii Diabetes
2kids4me replied to cruelshoes's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Unless you plan to be with him 24/7...you cant control what he eats or how he manages his medical condition. Depression is very common with diabetes, esp when blood sugars are out of control. It's a state of constant fatigue, and middle of the night bathroom visits that leave one more tired and depressed. Talk to his doctor if you can or write a letter... -

ARCHIVED Scoliosis Anyone?
2kids4me replied to 2kids4me's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you all for your replies..it means so much to have a place where all understand. As far as scoliosis goes - the onset in adolesence is considered idiopathic - no known cause. the congenital forms are related to defects in the vertebrae or neuromuscular conditions. Childhood onset has many causes - underlying disease, neurofibromatosis in one... As... -
Sigh...you can tell from my signature that my daughter just cant win some days. She now has been diagnosed with scoliosis. A reverse S curve in the thoracic spine ...only at 15 degrees right now and they will watch it closely...explains her rib hump and back pain... I know its mild but I am in the coping mode right now where we have just learned about it...

ARCHIVED I Think My Children Are Trying To Poison Me!
2kids4me replied to ruthla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with other comments - that the 11 yr old may have been reacting to gluten - the refusal to clean up /shape the dough came AFTER working with the gluten flours. I dont have wheat flour in the house either - If we eat pizza as a family - everyone eats homemade gluten free. If DH wants a gluten pizza for a quick meal during calving season - I get frozen... -
ARCHIVED Additional Autoimmune Disease
2kids4me replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I dont know ther percentage , but if you read my signature...my kids and I are a statistic, see this article: Open Original Shared Link it may be helpful. Anyone with one autoimmune disease is more susceptible to developing another autoimmune problem. -
No, they know she is celiac - she was confirmed celiac by endoscopy and has been gluten free since. This test was to confirm suspicion of susceptibility to a specific cluster of autoimmune diseases known as PAS III. This way, if she were to have vague ongoing symtpoms that do not point to a specific illness - there would be certain diseases they would test...

Well i finally got the results back on my daughter ...they did genetic tests in June. HLA-DRB1 *04 and DQB1*302. Statement by geneticist: HLA subtyping shows that she does have 2 subtypes associated with Type III polyglandular autoimmune syndrome. Of course HLA typing is not diagnostic for this condition but does lend support to the diagnosis...they go on...

I agree with other posters about doing things with her. The fact that she pointed out about you spending time on the computer may be her way of saying "what about me?" (She is only 10...) Another way to make it fun is to make her a gluten free pizza with all her favorite toppings on half- yours on the other half and then sneak out the back door, ring...

That is the best reply I have seen from a company - thanking you for seeing their mistake, a promise to correct it, in addition to acknowledging that the customer should not have to find the errors...wow...and it seems that reading thier reply indicates they are acutely aware of the sensitivity of celiacs to cross contamination! I use the Flour mix for cookies and add some xanthum gum (about 1/2 to 1 tsp depending on size of recipe. The all purpose mix is good for muffins etc - I havent used it but I think it has other stuff added (?) that makes it a good base for pancakes/muffins etc. Hope this helps! I find the rice flour blend from terracotto Open Original Shared Link makes...

ARCHIVED Extreme Pain And Bizzare Symptoms!
2kids4me replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
White stool usually indicates a liver /gallbladder problem as stated in prior post. Dont get so upset about them wanting to do pregnancy test. Dont receive it as an accusation! Do you know how many young women come to ER saying - I can't possibly be pregnant.. but they are, and have suffered an ectopic pregnancy that is bleeding or perhaps rutured. This... -
ARCHIVED Home From The Peds
2kids4me replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This will come down to what you feel is best for your child and what makes sense to you. Babies and toddlers falling off growth charts/weight charts is a cause for great concern. If the GI and ped dont push for biopsy and its not celiac; or if it is celiac in combination with another malabsorbtion syndrome , then they would be guilty of malpractice. There... -
ARCHIVED Pregnant And Wondering Cat Treatment In The House Is Safe?
2kids4me replied to missmommy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Once the product is dry - then the cat will be safe to handle for both children and pregnant women. Hope hubby is changing the litter box for you while pregnant! The products that are unsafe - flea collars! hate them. very toxic to young children and pregnant women...or "flea dips"...do not spray insecticides in the house. If fleas are noticed. Wash bedding... -

ARCHIVED How Can I Get Dh Fully On Board?
2kids4me replied to lilgreen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel for you as it does look like your dh is a teenager at heart. Basically rebelling againist what he is told to do. Feel free to copy and paste the following and print it off for dh...if you think it will help. By doing copy and paste to wordpad or works sheet - he wont see the intro and get all nasty cause you have been talking about him...[as some... -
ARCHIVED Drs Blame Everything On Celiac
2kids4me replied to shan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You need a seocnd opinion. He is jacka** to look at very young child with blood in the diaper and do no investigation and to pin it on a preexisting condition. If the blood was red - it was fresh blood and had not been in the bowels long. (fresh bleed). Even if he thought it was related which in my opinion - it does NOT. [i am not a doctor] - then he should... -
ARCHIVED Lactaid Pills - Kind Of Ranting!
2kids4me replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Both my kids use the Lactaid brand as well (Lactaid ultra). Kathryn is very sensitive to trace gluten and neither one has a problem. If you are casein intolerant and not just lactose intolerant then no brand of lactose med will help with dairy. Unless a company has certified gluten free facility (done through ELISA testing) then legally they cannot claim... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Celiac Sprue...trying To Get This Straight
2kids4me replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are 2 forms of "sprue" Tropical sprue responds to antibiotics and is bacterial induced / it is not autoimmune. Non-tropical sprue / celiac sprue / celiac disease is an autoimmune disease. The names that doctors prefer to use change over the years but the disease is the same. Same as Diabetes....... Juvenile diabetes = Type 1 diabetes = Insulin... -
Yes, MUCH better - at least for me... and the print is in black Thank you Scott Sandy

ARCHIVED What Qualifies As "diarrhea"?
2kids4me replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In my line of work - the only thing we can tell from stool is: worms or giradia infection blood - indicates bleeding from bowel but not diagnostic as to cause of bleeding mucousy = irritated bowel If we have an animal with abnormal stool....bloodwork, and xrays are used. The character of the stool is a symptom, and does not point to a specific disease... -
I dont mind the ads either - but the green is too much for my eyes. I have retinopathy near the macula and it distorts print. The light color in contrast to the bight green will shorten my visits. I get a headache otherwise. So if font could be bigger and darker in the posts / maybe tad less bright green in the periphery of my vision - it would be more comfortable...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Celiac Sprue...trying To Get This Straight

ARCHIVED What Qualifies As "diarrhea"?
2kids4me replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
okay, so this thread is right up my alley...having worked in a vet clinic, I have seen a variety of stool! My job as a tech is to record the character and color of stool. Diarrhea is an adjective to define stool that is liquid consistency and no form. Watery diarrhea = usually light colored and splats out onto newspaper, mostly water that soaks into...
