my daughter had a biopsy and GI doc said everything looked normal to the naked eye and said " I'd be very surprised if she was celiac"....til he got biopsy results. He apologized for leading me to think that way and said " I am surprised - she is without a doubt celiac, guess my eyes arent as accurate as I thought". sandy

ARCHIVED Does This Letter Make Any Sense To U?
2kids4me replied to mouth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If even some of the GI docs are ill infomred about celaic then we cant expect a food company to know. Whne writing letter to companies oyu ahve to ask speicifcally if wheat rye oats or barley or any derivatives from aformentioned ingedients (like malt or plant proteins) are present in the product. Because there is "glutinous rice" which has the word "gluten... -
ARCHIVED Dog's Been Limping For Three Weeks - Getting Worse
2kids4me replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The cruciate ligament is in the knee joint of the hind leg...nothing like that in front leg. The way to examine a leg - is exactly as you have done. Start at the paw and flex it / extend it...watchiing for any discomfort. Do the same at the elbow joint and be careful with that area since she just had armpit surgery.. an idea is to roll her on her back... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Just Called. Said Kara Is A Raging Celiac.
2kids4me replied to Kara'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We use the Aunt Jemima lite all the time. My son and I are both diabetic so reg maple syrup just aint an option! Matt is lactose intolerant on top of the celiac/diabetes....we use the lactaid ultra so he can still have dairy. Casein intolerance is different - no pill for that. There is also Lacteeze for children that is okay tasting. It is overwhelming... -
ARCHIVED Dog's Been Limping For Three Weeks - Getting Worse
2kids4me replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
did your parents decide to see a vet instead of a people doctor? Okay - lame joke but had to get some humour goin! Could she have a foreign body in her paw that is festering? a piece of nettle or small splinter of wood? Sometimes all you will see is a slightly swollen area on the pad or between the pads that is tender.. Try soaking the paw in epsom... -
ARCHIVED Dog's Been Limping For Three Weeks - Getting Worse
2kids4me replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Umm so let me get this right...a dog is brought in for an injury..and the vet removes lumps on an injured leg ?????? Okay my hubby the vet never would have gone that route in a million years. Several reasons - 1) a ligament or tendon injury would not have been immediately apparent 2) they would have to manipulate the leg to shave the area... -
ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Diabetic Daughter Tested Positive For Celiac
2kids4me replied to Noor's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome Rola, It will be an adjustment for sure - my son is 13 and has been diabetic since age 9. He was diagnosed celiac 10 months after the diabetes. He likes the glutino pretzels and the gluten free cheerio type cereals, we make "rice krispie squares" using the gluten free Crispy rice cereal ( I find in health food stores). He likes the EnerG brand crackers... -
I am not tring to scare you - I am stating facts. Although I am in the veterinary profession, my work is in the lab as well as patient care. Plus I have had an ascending UTI myself. The fever is telling you that is is likely moving up into the kidney. If you choose to wait, that is your choice. A walk in clinic would be great - less wait than ER because ER...
-
Right now you are describing a urinary tract infection. The urinary tract includes the kidneys. A bladder infection that remains untreated can ascend up the ureters (the tube from the kidney to the bladder) and then you have a kidney infection + a bladder infection. Once the kidney is involved - you will get fever/chills and feel very ill. The pain you...

ARCHIVED Phenylephrine Hcl
2kids4me replied to Rick45's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would agree with a reaction to Phenylephrine HCl ....even more so caffiene + Phenylephrine HCl because they have an additive effect - the combination is more potent than either drug taken alone. Yes, caffiene is a drug - a CNS stimulant to be exact. See the following - listed side effects from each: Phenylephrine Hydrochloride : May give rise to... -
ARCHIVED Mri Question
2kids4me replied to Cath4k's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I dont find any evidence that it has gluten - mos contrasts agents for MRI have to be fairly "pure" so that nothing interferes with uptake by plasma/cell proteins. There were conflicting articles about its safety...but the most recent one discussed safety with pediatric and adult patients being similar. Sandy -
ARCHIVED Why Bother To Have An Endoscopy?
2kids4me replied to Shawn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with others. If you are diagnosed with DH, why is your doctor wanting to do an endoscopy? I have copied some info from a site about DH and a doctor who specializes in it. This is different than an investigation to see what's wrong...they already know what's wrong and the treatment is gluten free diet...and that Dh is accompanied by gluten enteropathy... -
Yup and Edmonton is home to Kinnickinnick Foods... my parents live in Sherwood Park, just outside of Edmonton, most of the mainstream stores carry the kinnickinnick products.. maybe the international appeal of gluten-free has been notice in Edmonton. Sandy (further south in Alberta but know Edmonotn well)

ARCHIVED Dr Is Suggesting Invasive Tests-----need Advice
2kids4me replied to dinali63's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ditto to that. There are many options to provide nutrition for the human body. veges / rice / unprocessed meat /potatoes / fruits / flaxseed Quinoa is an ancient grain that has more nutrient value than wheat. I too make pizza, homemade soup and cream sauces, loaves, bread, cookies and cakes....only difference is that now I use a different flour... -
ARCHIVED Dr Is Suggesting Invasive Tests-----need Advice
2kids4me replied to dinali63's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Perhaps the only "food problem" they can diagnose by endoscopy is gluten BUT there are a number of conditions that present like celiac and it would be malpractice ofr her NOT to consider them in young child...even if celiac is most likely. Some causes include: Intestinal lymphangiectasis Mycobacterium avium intracellulare. Eosinophilic duodenitis... -
ARCHIVED Dr Is Suggesting Invasive Tests-----need Advice
2kids4me replied to dinali63's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The advantage to an "official diagnosis" depends on the family/person. If a person is more compliant because there is "proof" of the condition..then it helps....if dcotors would be supportive...it may help. But in reality - living gluten free is healthy. You cook with different flours and avoid a lot of processed food... Man is the only mammal who drinks... -
He had no right to promote a permanent procedure such as a tubal. I have had Type 1 diabetes since 1986. In 1992 I had a girl and in 1994, I had a boy. Pregnancies went very well, I was induced at 36 weeks both times and delivered naturally. I had a tubal done after #2 as a personal choice. Key word - choice that my husband and I made. Once I indicated...

ARCHIVED Anyone React To A Saline Drip?
2kids4me replied to michelleL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I You should see a dermatologist - and take pictures!! Trying to describe skin lesions is hard - buta picture is great! As a rule - hives do not form pus filled blisters, they are red, itchy bumps often with general erythema (redness) in the skin.. DH is possible , so is atopic dermatitis (I have seen it flare in dogs and it is dramatic, they will scratch... -
ARCHIVED Ceoliac, hashimotos Thyroidits And Diabetes Type1
2kids4me replied to chenal52000's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The other reasons include euthyroid sick syndrome - when the body is fighting an illness or dealing with severe stress - it suppresses normal thyroid function - the thyroid gland is normal but not producing normal levells of hormone. The other cause would include a pituitary/hypothalmus problem - if something has affected the pituitary gland - it does not... -
ARCHIVED Anyone React To A Saline Drip?
2kids4me replied to michelleL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Saline drip refers to 0.9% NaCl (sodium chloride with isotonic sterile water solution). It is used to rehydrate patients or "keep a drip open". It is ph balanced and isotonic - like having a drink of very dilute salt water. The nurses may have worn latex gloves to put it on, they sometimes use rubber latex caps to cover the port....but if your allergy was... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookie Sales
2kids4me replied to CtheCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
?? why single out girl scout cookies - the people at work may not buy cookies at the store and only buy the GS ones.. but I am certain they are consuming gluten from numerous other sources - homemade cookies, cold cereals, soups, breads, pizza, waffles - you name it..that do damage all year around not just during GS cookie sales. Rather than focus on a... -
ARCHIVED School Carnival Nightmare
2kids4me replied to zarfkitty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You did NOT overreact!! My daughter had bad glutening from playing in an empty grain bin - much less be surrounded by flour dust!! If the fair was organized by the school and your daughter is registered as student with celiac - they knowingly placed her health at risk. But more likely it was an ignorance thing - they didnt even think of the issue since... -
ARCHIVED Girl Scout Cookie Sales
2kids4me replied to CtheCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The same thing we are teaching the beavers/cubs /scouts when they sell chocolate coated popcorn and caramel corn with nuts.... they have to get out there and work for the funds that make the program work. GS cookies - no good for celiacs OR diabetics scout popcorn - no good for a diabetic or a kid with braces or someone with a corn allergy or an adult with... -

If one has an autoimmune disease - yes you are at higher risk to develop other autoimmune disease. It is not a certainty. When one family has 2 or more members with autoimmune endocrine diseases or if one person has more than 1 autoimmune disease - it is called polyendocrine autoimmune syndrome. In my family -we are both 3 members, each with 2 or more autoimmune... -
ARCHIVED Is Severity Of Symptoms Related To Sensitivity Toward Gluten?
2kids4me replied to lilgreen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Outward symptoms are no indciation of the damage that may be occuring in your intestine. My son did not have any serious symptoms - only vague complaints that in hindsight were from undiagnosed celiac). His intestine was a mess - visible damage during endoscopy. His sister was diagnosed first - we were only testing him because GI recommended testing family...
