ARCHIVED Worst Response From A Restaurant Yet!
2kids4me replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thats why they requested a fax transmission, they can confirm if its legitimate. At a restaurant level , I've never had problem either - chefs very accomodating. Its upper management who spends too much time "thinking" that comes up with these things... Sandy -

ARCHIVED Found Out Why Alex Is Still Sick!
2kids4me replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe print off some replies so she knows she is not only normal - she is not alone. If she wants to PM me - please tell her to do so - that way she can have a conversation separate from the forum. Ryan - you must love her very much - you are seeking help and understanding and you are thinking of her first - you are definitley not self centered. Did... -
ARCHIVED Worst Response From A Restaurant Yet!
2kids4me replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would guess someone in upper management is concerned that it is someone trying to get their recipes and are wanting verification that you do indeed have food allergies and your inquiry is a legitimate request. It seems silly I know but there are people in this world that would be deceitful and try and get ingredients lists in this manner to copy a recipe... -
Finally noticed this thread! I am mostly a stay at home mom, animal health technologist by night.. my hubby is a vet so I am the after hours help. I worked full time in veterinary emergency medicine before I had kids. In 1992 when our daughter was born, it was clear my career path had changed - she has had challenges since the day she was born...I...

ARCHIVED Low Hemoglobin..normal Ferritin..
2kids4me replied to sashamay23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Iron is only one part of the puzzle, a substance called erythropoetin is produced by the kidneys and has a crucial role for hemoglobin production. You can have anemias related to low B12 - in that case -ferrtin levels would be normal but the person would have a type of anemia called macrocytic anemia. A person in kidney failure would have normal ferritin... -
ARCHIVED Found Out Why Alex Is Still Sick!
2kids4me replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Alex is also still recovering from ketoacidosis, that can take while for everything to sort itself out. My son has celiac and diabetes. Once his intestine healed, his blood sugars stabalized. and yes, fiber is used to treat constipation and diarrhea. Pumpkin is quite good for the intestine if she can handle that. Only a tablespoon or two of pure pumpkin... -

Here's some info you may already have, if not I hope its helpful.. What is low blood glucose? When the amount of blood glucose (sugar in your blood) has dropped below your target range (less than 4 mmol/L) it is called low blood glucose or hypoglycemia. What are the signs of a low blood glucose level? You may feel: -

Dextrose tablets are the easiest to absorb. There are flavoured varities as well as plain.. my son and I both use about 3 dextrose tablets first then once the shakiness is gone, have a starch and protein with something to drink. The BD dextrose tabs are soft and melt in the mouth or with minimal chewing. When you are low, even sucking a hard candy isnt... -
ARCHIVED Wow, Could This Be True?
2kids4me replied to Pacer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Absolutely!! About a week after going gluten free, my daughter asked to go for a walk, she wanted to explore...up til then, she was more of a slug, she'd go for walk if asked - but never her idea. I always thought she was just on the lazy side. It started to rain but that didnt deter her...we kept going...we came to a hill - its quite big and a... -
I have not been on a cruise, but I know people who ahve.. The chefs are top of the line chefs and know about food issues. Many cruise lines offer special cruises for diabetic celiacs etc. Simliar to Disney - they will cater to you. I would suggest however that you contact them again and ask if they would be so kind as to talk to the chef(s) employed by...

ARCHIVED Found Out Why Alex Is Still Sick!
2kids4me replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Based on her ketoacidosis, its a sure bet she has Type 1 - the insulin dependent form. The monitor which Little d refers to - is an insulin pump. Speaking from experience - the insulin pump is not recommended until the patient has been under treatment and regulated for one year. It does not connect to the pancreas. A small catheter is placed under the skin... -
ARCHIVED Found Out Why Alex Is Still Sick!
2kids4me replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Good that you were there for her - very scary. She will feel better as she recovers. Its an emotional roller coaster at the beginning (both my son and I are Type 1). Especially with the infections she has and recovering from pneumonia. Alex has to remember -that with diabetes there are lot of things that can impact blood sugar control - hormones, stress... -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Of Type 1 Diabetes?
2kids4me replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As said above - a fasting BG in the 90's is fine. my son was nine when diagnosed, in hindsight he had symptoms for about 2 weeks - increased thirst, fatigue, weight loss, peeing lots. Dark circles under yes (from getting up to pee in the night). Increased appetite occurs initially then the appetite drops off because of feeling crappy / production of... -
Call Disneyland - and ask for "Chef Chris"...we talked to him directly before we went - and he is great. Any chefs at the Disneyland park will help you out. They deal with very sick kids who visit the park via the Make a Wish foundation, cancer kids who come on dream flights... they will help you Its the one place we have been since 2003 where...

ARCHIVED 2 Products Wine, Taco Seasoning
2kids4me replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use Old El Paso taco seasoning and have not had problems - and Kathryn is very sensitive to traces of gluten. I think it might be the combination - I have found if I drink wine and a spicy food - oh man I get what is affectionately refered to as pepper farts! Burning butt when passing gas or stool. I only get it if I combine the two. I also found I... -

There are cookbooks developed specifically for autism - gluten free/casein free. That's how strong the connection is between autism and diet. I am not saying it causes autism but people with autism seem to do better behaviorally and academically on a gluten-free/CF diet. You are correct to pursue the possibility of celiac. Trying gluten free at the very... -
Onions cause more than bad breath! I second the "no onion" rule. It's like saying a lttle wheat cant hurt a celiac. Contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. If you feed baby food - check ingredients - many contain onion powder - just as toxic. Chicken broth, chicken...

Cats cannot go for too many days without eating - they develop liver issues (hepatic lipidosis). I refer to a cat not eating ANYTHING . If your cat is drinking broth and chicken that will provide calories. I am glad you took your kitty to the vet. Did they check his urine? It's a cheap/easy way t see if kidney function is okay. Common things in the...

ARCHIVED Introducing Solid Foods To Baby - Cereal Issues?
2kids4me replied to RiceFiend's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
both my children were on breastmilk til 20 months old, never started cereal til after a year old. Starting around 10 months I introduced new foods a few weeks apart - fed them cooked/mashed carrots, sweet potatoe, applesauce, pears, potatoe, banana - all of which were home prepared. When I started with meats - I cooked chicken or beef and whipped it in the... -
ARCHIVED Handling Bread Dough?
2kids4me replied to EVERYBODY'SAUNTIE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok, so it may be a bit of confusion. I think some threads were discussing the possibility of systemic glutening symptoms by coming into skin contact with wheat. My daughter does not get "glutening" symptoms (and she is very sensitive to CC) when she handled the paper mache...but she definitely gets a skin reaction ........... Hope that helps Sandy -
ARCHIVED Handling Bread Dough?
2kids4me replied to EVERYBODY'SAUNTIE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If my daughter comes into contact with wheat on her hands, they get beet red, crack and she gets rash on he forearm. Found out the hard way when they worked with paper mache in class. sandy -
ARCHIVED Results Confusion
2kids4me replied to rebz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter was barely positive on anti-endomesial antibodies, doctor called it borderline. Yet in biopsy her intestine was conclusive for celiac - flattened villi and other characteristic changes for celiac. response to diet is affirmation in itself.... bloos tests can have false negatives. Sandy
