ARCHIVED Aspergers Support Thread

It is a way that some people on the autistic spectrum "log memories". Temple Grandin talks about it in her book Thinking in Pictures and other reports form my life with autism. Its like you go through the day experiencing things and at the end of the day - it's played back to be recorded on "hard drive" in the memory. it was my daughter who used that... -

Ok, so I wasnt aware of that. All I was pointing out is that in my daughters case, she was not diagnosed ADD, as I was responding to a query about how I know my daughter has Aspergers. I have also had the opportunity to speak with Tony Attwood, and Temple Grandin on separate occasions and I am comfortable that we are on track with the diagnosis. I, like... -

Because she fits the diagnostic criteria for Aspergers, not ADD. She was diagnosed after years of testing, observation and her pediatrician is one whom other pediatricians refer kids to. Kathryn does not have attention deficit, in fact she can focus and concentrate on a task so much that she has trouble going to the next class if her work is not complete... -
ARCHIVED Does Celiac Cause Change In Med Dosages?
2kids4me replied to Dedrasmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can definitely say YES. My daughter was on a fairly high dose of synthroid for over a year, after fluctuating blood levels(she has been hypothyroid since age 4) then was diagnosed celiac (at age 11).... about 3 months later (after gluten free diet), she was acting hyperthyroid - and sure enough she needed her dose lowered.. the GI doc and the endocrinologist... -

2kids4me replied to michaunj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She doesnt need cereal at all right now...there is another thread (I'll try and find it that has some great posts about feeding baby). Mashed banana makes a good first food, sweet potatoe, carrots (cooked and mashed of course), pears. Introduce one food at a time and allow time between introducing the next new food. Sandy ** found it! Open Original... -

All I know is that it's nice to have a name- Aspergers - because the name gave my daughter something to identify with.... Some background first - we all knew something was wrong, our daughter, her brother and my husband and I had been going back and forth to doctors and watching her younger brother surpass her in many developmental areas. The name... -

It is a difference to be sure, but an Aspie has social impairment that causes difficulty in school settings, social settings ...you name it. It impacts how they learn, since the traditional teaching methods can compound issues. People with Aspergers have literal interpretations of things, abstract concepts are difficult. My daughter is a whiz in math and... -

all I can say...is sometimes people rip up their parent cards with their behavior...and then they come back into their adult children's lives..wanting to be closer? You have every right to determine who is in your life. All you are "obligated to do" is send a card or note...and only because you are classy person. If she guilt trips you into seeing... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Glutening?
2kids4me replied to CMCM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you have lactose intolerance? Does this symptom occur with dairy? That may be the culprit. or the hot fudge sauce may have been cross contaminated or have gluten in it as part of the ingredients....or like the presvious post - the ice cream may have been cc'd forma scoop Hope you feel better soon sandy -
I agree with the posts about "real food" ...Matthew (and Kathryn) did great on breast milk alone, chubby happy and thriving til they were able to eat "real food", we started with mashed banana, then carrots, sweet potatoe, potatoe ,pears, peaches, applesauce (homemade).... I blended meat (chicken) in the blender, he loved it. I tried him on rice cereal at...

Thank you to all who have shared their life experience thus far. This is amazing ... so much in common. Ursula - it sounds like your mom definitely had mental health issues, the trauma she endured scarred her .... and I am so sorry that she wasnt there for you when you could have used and "intact" mom to hold you, to comfort you...it must have been such a... -

cyber hugs {{{{{ }}}}} sorry she wasnt there the way you needed. 27??! wow, and she vanished the minute she wasnt the center of attention, hmmm. This boyfriend must be something else to make her so shortsighted and selfish as to not realize that there are more serious things to discuss than "boys' in life. Unbelievable!! I know how much of...

I am guessing your friend is under the age of 20 - she is in an egocentric self centered mode - in her mind - because you were worried about your upcoming scope and didn't have input about "her man"... then you dont care about her. First off she is the one who is not caring and only wants her needs met right now - never mind that you need her support and...

Shadow Aspergers is a term that describes someone with a few traits or mild traits that would not set them apart from a "normal person" (NT, or neurotypical) but perhaps be called reclusive, introvert or reserved.... but share characteristics of Aspergers I hate crowds and loud noises bother me but I like listening to loud music. I totally understand... -

Vaccine protocols and types of vaccine are different between US and Canada! Maybe its cause both my kids were born more than 10 yrs ago but they never even discussed a vaccine at birth...holy cow, we dont even do that to animals. Found this on a Canada gov't site: they go on to say how the amount of mercury in the Hep B shot is minimal... -

thank YOU Ursula! You are the first person with Aspergers to confirm my approach with Kathryn and that I was on the right track for bedtime. A number of people have suggested in the past that I somehow got her wired up or let her play too much video games ( I limit it to an hour and nothing after 5pm) ...or that I should try over the counter sleep aides... -

Aspergers and bedtime at our house... My daughter has trouble getting to sleep at night; the average time is 1 1/2 - 2 hours of transition. I used to try all sorts of things, music, talking, reading to her... but in our situation, I was prolonging sleep even further ... because she still needed the same amount of quiet time after I finished reading or... -
I wanted to start this thread after realizing how many of us either have Aspergers, shadow Aspergers or know someone with an autistic spectrum disorder. My hope is that we can come here to boost each other, share strategies, good days bad days...strategies that went wrong (kind of like oops I'll never try THAT again) .... to things that worked out wonderful...

I'm in Canada - first vaccines arent until they are 2 mo(?) Kathryn had signs of trouble from birth and they delayed vaccines past the 3 month mark - Kathryn was premature, a difficult birth, and hypotonic from birth - the birth was induced because she stopped moving in utero - so in Kathryn's case - something happned before she was born and the difficult... -

I have read some studies and am no expert - all I know is that Kathryn showed signs before any vaccines were administered. I think with nay of these issues - autoimmune, cancer, autism...they will find that there are multiple things that can trigger illness or disorders...from environmental mold to viruses to vaccine. the commonality between mold, viruses... -

{{{{ HUGS}}}} I know how you feel!
