ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Absorb Meds Differently When Starting Diet?
2kids4me replied to jesscarmel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As the small intestine heals, it will become better at absorbing everything - food or meds. My daughter had her thyroid meds lowered about 3 months after going gluten free. It was recommended by both her endocrinologist and gastro doc to have blood taken 3 months after starting the gluten free diet for that very reason. So it most definitely affects... -
ARCHIVED Mozart And The Whale
2kids4me replied to 2kids4me's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
uh well, okay but if wants to label you as... then I would tell him: "You are inconsiderate and ignorant to expect ANYONE to babysit, then entertain guests several days in one week" At least I would if I were there when he said that.. I am considered NT although I am sure I have what is described as "shadow Aspergers" - I hate crowds, prefer "talking... -
ARCHIVED Perpertually Swolen Glands- No More!
2kids4me replied to maddycat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I didnt notice it with the children..but there is a logical reason it would be connected. A celiac (who didnt know they were celiac) eating gluten would be constantly challenging the immune system - it would be in high gear all the time. The lymph system is connected everywhere in your body by hundreds of nodes. The lymphoctes produce antibodies (certain... -
my daughter had intermittent abdominal pain that always started near the belly button and then shifted to the lower right, nausea, fatigue "feeling crappy", this went on for 2 months - she would improve and seem to be fine, then it would happen again. One morning she started out the same way, then proceeded to vomit dark green fluid (bile), fever going up...

ARCHIVED Mozart And The Whale
2kids4me replied to 2kids4me's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This is a review of the movie that summed it all up: *Also you can find it online through bookstore site (Chapters, amazon etc) or at Future Shop (Canadian store), or order it through your local video store. I found a somewhat comical but probably common interaction between the psychiatrist in the film and Donald ..the man with Aspergers ...as the doctor... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cat Food
2kids4me replied to emcmaster's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just in case not everyone knows - r/d stands for reducing diet. It is for overweight cats or cats with diabetes, not to be used for growing animals as it does not have sufficient calories or nutrients for proper growth. Sandy -
music therapy is used with children affected by autism to help with sensory integration. Sandy I have included a site and brief bits from it:

ARCHIVED Mozart And The Whale
2kids4me replied to 2kids4me's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You should be able to find it at Walmart, Zellers, Future shop or rent it at your local video store. Kathryn was very interested throughout the movie, she commented at the end that she can censure herself better than Isabelle, was like her when it comes to noises, but she related to Donald because of the discomfort with eye contact. Kathryn is on the... -
Your thyroid should be checked and B12 levels, and iron ...although my B 12 levels were considered normal the only thing that got me back living again was B 12 injections. There are tablets and under the tongue supplements as well. The damnged gut cannot absorb many nutrients and often celiacs are affected by low iron, B12 etc. Hypothyroidism can accompany...

Our family just watched Mozart and the Whale. It is loosely based on the relationship between two people with Aspergers.. very well done. They eventually marry. One character (Donald) started a support group for individuals affected by an autistic spectrum disorder. All the characters have different behaviors and reactions to situations which mirrors...

ARCHIVED One Of The Top 10 Hated Responses From
2kids4me replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did ask our dietician about this - and she reminded me that responses are often run by legal departments these days... they can only label something gluten free or make claims that it is safe for gluten free diets if they do all the assays required to have the label "gluten free". Because there are numerous food intolerance /allergy issues they use ... -
ARCHIVED Elizabeth Haselbeck Said She Has Celiac!
2kids4me replied to TBOX's topic in Publications & Publicity
From what I read about Elizabeth, she is conservative and has no medical degree, Considering the scope of celiac and tests involved (be it blood tests, gentic test or biopsy)and the vast array of symptoms that accompany the disease - she could only speak for 3 minutes cause that was probably the time alloted. If you expect a comprehensive segment - then they... -
ARCHIVED Nearly Convinced My Son Hasn't Got Celiac!
2kids4me replied to Peta's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our daughter was barely positive for anti-endomeseal antibodies and yet biopsy was conclusive for celaic with subtotal villous flattening. The biposy can tell you what is happening in the intestine...lets say the biopsy is negative but he responds well to gluten free - then you know he is at the very least gluten intolerant . It helps guide the dietary... -

ARCHIVED Very Very Concerned Parent (long)
2kids4me replied to nogluten77's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think sometimes what can happen - at least it did with my daughter - is that because someone has diagnosis of whatever (celiac, diabetes, hypothyroid) then doctors develop "tunnel vision" and attribute symptoms to the primary disease , non-compliance with diet etc. I thiink a pediatrician needs to step back - evaluate symptoms and maybe say - okay in this... -
ARCHIVED I Have To Vent!
2kids4me replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with everyone here - erasers, stickers, etc - if they need to provide an incentive...healthy snacks if they wnat to go the "food route" as listed by many. My son is diabetic and celiac so I hate the food reward thing..whatever happened to internal rewards - being proud of doing your best and getting a sticker to show off that you did your best.... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Some Animal Meats?
2kids4me replied to BBadgero's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know few people who get gassy with venison or moose meat, I get gassy and a bit uncomfortable with it... Anytime you eat a food that you dont have frequently , it can cause digestive symptoms . I dont have problem with beef, or chicken and a lot of beef animals/chickens are grain fed -
ARCHIVED Celiac Girl Scout Campout
2kids4me replied to kschell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
LOL I think that's why he likes scouts - they go on long hikes and go, go , go all day - Matt says scout camp is where he can have smores and not have to take extra insulin, then he beams a big smile! After one long day hike, they ended with a campfire and smores - he did his blood sugar when he got home and , I hear this whoop and a holler - MOM!... -

2kids4me replied to kschell's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son, Matt is celiac and diabetic, attended cubs for 3 yrs and is now in scouts. As others have said - talk to the leader. I was camp cook for the cub camps and we prepared lots of meals gluten free or I provided substitutes. the group was more than willing to work with me...for scouts, they are in patrols and plan their own menu - all members are keen... -
ARCHIVED Help Intrepreting Thyroid Results
2kids4me replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter is hypothyroid - been treated since she was 4 yrs old, if your daughter has a high TSH then she may need treatment. EVERY lab has different reference ranges because they do various testing methods, you can never say a specific number is too high unless oyu know normal for the particular test. I had trouble convincing the doctors my daugher was... -
ARCHIVED Help Intrepreting Thyroid Results
2kids4me replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is a condition called euthyroid sick syndrome - the thryoid is normal but under stress due to illness - such as autoimmune disease and GI disorders to name only a few. The T 4 is low normal but other levels seems adequate. The patient exhibits signs and symptoms of low thryoid - medication is usaully not necessary. Continue with the supplements for... -
ARCHIVED Help Intrepreting Thyroid Results
2kids4me replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It would be helpful if there were normal values next to the numbers - each lab has different reference ranges. At first glance - your T4 is definitely low (based on lab normal values that I am used to), the TSH is normal - TSH is produced by your pituitary gland to stimulate the thyroid gland. The T3 appears low as well. I hope they can get it sorted out... -
it is hard to get "professionals" to listen to the patient. You could drop off an article or links ot one, maybe he would listen, maybe not. I have included some links for any of you that want something concrete to bring to the dentist. I included medical journals... We are very lucky to have a dentist that not only knows about celiac but one of the dental...
