  1. Here, found one online: 1/2 cup soy margarine, softened 1/4 cup soy milk, rice milk, or other non-dairy milk of choice 3 cups Veganized Powdered Sugar 1 1/2 t. vanilla Using an electric mixer or in a large bowl with a hand held mixer, place the soy margarine and soy milk, and cream them together. Add half of the sugar, and beat well to...
  2. oooh! Do not give up hope! I know of some but they are in books at home, I can post later!
  3. I second the sorbets. Some people who have celiac also avoid soy. Just to rule things out it might be a good idea to stick to sorbets rather than getting products like SoyDelicious, which is a really yummy ice cream substitute. I have quickly grown to love many sorbets. I hope your dad feels better! What a thing to find out now, it is good he can make...
  4. i got all worried for nothing. There was indeed glucose in the IV. I was just tuned in since my dad has diabetes.
  5. thanks ravenwoodglass and trents. I shall ask the doc tomorrow when I go for the endoscopy follow up appointment.
  6. Eating before hand does sound like a plan. I feel the food situation might be similar to that of a wedding. Therefore, find out who the caterer is from the prom commitee or class officers and give them a call. They should be cool with making a separate plate that is safe for you to eat! You may or may not have time to eat it, you may or may not want to eat...
  7. I had a blood test after my endoscopy to test for vitamin def. I got the results back and my sugar level was sky high at 168. This concerns me since I did not eat anything for 10 hours prior to the test (granted the last thing I ate was wedding cake, but I would have thought it would be out of my system by then). Should I be concerned about that sugar...
  8. Sorry you had a bummer of an experience, poeticjul25! I'll throw out who I saw since I am local to you. She is not from the Celiac Center, but she seems nice knows about celiac. She did not make me feel bad about trying to get a diagnosis! An RN at her office named Heidi Peters was awesome. She is who I saw inititally after my blood test. She took time...
  9. ugh! That's an awful thing to say. I hope you feel better and putting some weight on soon. In the meantime, it should be legal to slap people for such comments. Snide comments like that stem from other people's insecurities being projected. It's not cool. An ex-coworker used to be such a pain. She would publicly claim I "must not eat dinner" since I would...
  10. I was recently dx with a hiatal hernia. They found it during my endoscopy for celiac. I am lucky because it rarely bothers me. Sometimes I would get the "heart attack" feeling they say is a symptom and need to take short breaths, but that goes away pretty quickly. My Dr. told me one way to treat it is to have many small meals rather than 3 bigger ones...
  11. Oh no! So sorry to hear about your reaction to pears!
  12. yikes, haha. Guhlia is right. Ask a manager
  13. How about adding flax seed oil and/or oilive oil to foods? Use it on everything, potatos, salads, etc. It's tasty and high in calories and good fats. Good luck. and btw I wish people would leave their comments to themselves about weight!
  14. What she said! I've made tabouli with quinoa and it rocks my socks. You won't be able to go to any grocery store and pick it up quickly, but it is so easy to make and worth it!
  15. I too recently tried a bumble bar. I enjoyed it.
  16. I have been voluntarily off dairy since Jan 1 and I have not had a sinus infection since. Prior to that I would roll from one sinus infection to the other.
  17. yay! I also should add I did not feel sick aferwards I am glad you'll now give it a try, hopefully you will really like it, too! Just tell them about making your meal gluten-free when you make the reservation and remind your server if they happen not to remember (but they should). There might be other gluten-free options besides the delicious polenta...
  18. My hubby and I went to a fancy shmancy dinner last night at Open Original Shared Link. It was wonderful!!! I had the polenta which looked to me like a vegan/gluten free option to begin with. I called ahead to make sure it would be ok and they took great care of us when we were dining. They remembered that I was the person with the "issue" and they told...
  19. I LOOOOVE Open Original Shared Link Clear Enzyme deoderant I have used it since college and it actually keeps me so much dryer than Secret used to. No aluminum, no ruined yellow clothes! It's great.
  20. Hmmm. . .what does a huuuuuuge forehead have to do with celiac? I sure have one of those. I guess I have an oval face shape and my origins are as follows: mom's side is Polish and German and all Jewish and paternal side is Welch, French, and maybe some Native American. I am 5'4"
  21. Wow, that is so good to hear! Thank you for sharing and I am so glad you had such a great experience!
  22. Sorry you had a bad celiac day Smunkeemom! I agree about the "weird diet" thing. I don't want people to think I am on the Atkins diet and roll their eyes when I don't want crutons (or crumbs) on a salad. Do you explain the disease everytime to avoid that? Do you get over it? What do you do at weddings? Info/disscussion on the social aspect of celiac would...
  23. holy crap shai! That sounds abusive and awful! I am so sorry you had such a rough time. I too have a hiatal hernia but other than that the Dr. was nice and not mean to me even though I was being a HUGE baby (they even called it "anxious" rather than "huge baby"). I got to shake her hand at the Dr.'s office before I had the scope. That's just awful they didn...
  24. Thanks for all the support everyone! I had the endo/biopsy yesterday and survived. I needed extra drugs because I was so anxious and wouldn't just pass out already. After that it was just sleepytime for me at home and a little sore throat. It'll be interesting to get the biopsy results. thanks again!
  25. That sounds just like my alpine experiences. The medication I would take before a snowboard day helped a lot. I forget what it is called, otherwise I would let you know! I do get extra hot easily, too. I have a small window of comfort as far as temps. go. p.s. I am small but not underweight, and thyroid is ok according to recent blood test for celiac...
