  1. Well done richard
  2. Disney is great. Talk to the dietary department. Pretty much every restaurant knows how to handle it but it's even better if they know ahead of time. And the reason you're so hungry is that your body is trying to recover from being denied nutrients. richard
  3. Just a reminder to those who do have DH that most folks who have DH can eventually eat shrimp and don't have to worry about iodine for the rest of their lives, but for some folks it can take a couple of years of the diet to get there. In my case, I NEVER had to worry about iodine (and of course some iodine is essential to good health). If you have or had...
  4. I can't really tell you a whole lot about Lynchburg. My sister lived there for several years and really didn't like it at first but it grew on her. Being the home of Thomas Roads Baptist, Liberty University, and Jerry Falwell, it has quite an evangelical flavor, but you also find all kinds since there are three other colleges in the immediate area. I can...
  5. OK, that's what I thought. Bad memory.
  6. I heard you, Lisa!!! I can't remember if you ever visit the Roanoke area? It's not gluten-free heaven but it's much better than it once was, that's for sure. But I also think the original poster might want more than just gluten-free info. richard
  7. I live in Roanoke. What sort of information are you looking for?
  8. For the newbies reading this, I'm going out on a limb and guessing that if you cover your food and the microwave it, 99.99999 percent of us will be perfectly fine. If you made your own food using anything processed, I'd say the odds are much higher any contamination came from the processed food than the microwave. richard
  9. The store owner was "notified" by whom? I think the store owner is mixed up. I seriously doubt Advil would suddenly start adding gluten just for the heck of it. And I think they would change their website of they did. Call them. In 10 years, I've never known pregelatinized starch to come from wheat. I'm not saying it can't happen, I've just never seen...
  10. I use those bagels primarily to make sandwiches. I prefer them to most breads I've tried. Expensive, but still much cheaper than eating out. richard
  11. Never heard of anybody worrying about gluten-free toilet paper so can't say. I have heard of folks worrying about paper towels where it's glued but also have heard either that there's no wheat there or folks just avoid these first and last sheets. richard
  12. If this is the test where above 20 is positive, odds are very strong you have it. It's my understanding that false positive is very, very rare. My same number was right around 195. richard
  13. Glad they got back to you. Coffee is pretty safe, except sometimes at shops where they add chips or something like that to it. As far as I can tell, I've never gotten sick from coffee. richard
  14. There's absolutely no way for any of us to tell you if the sauce had gluten. The only way to determine that is for you to go to the dining folks and find out. Until you do that, you're only guessing. richard
  15. Blue cheese is one of those things I no longer worry about. Most is started on an artificial medium, and even those that aren't it doesn't appear that there's anything harmful to us that transfers to the actual cheese. AND, the small amount of culture used in a batch means that even if there is something harmful in it, the ppm wouldn't be measurable. This...
  16. Give her some decent and varied food and tell her that's the meal. Then walk away. Don't stand there and fret or yell. A hungry child will eventually eat. And, yes, I'm speaking from experience with a picky eater. richard
  17. Well, your dermatologist is more likely to know DH while your regular doctor probably knows other skin conditions, like psoriasis. But then he'll probably send you to a derm. If your health insurance plan and/or finances allow you to see the derm first, I'd head there IF you can get an appointment. Where I live, it takes months and months to see one unless...
  18. No corn problems that I'm aware of. richard
  19. Some white sauce dishes, although I can't say about CC. richard
  20. We took one gluten-free cake mix (Pamela's?) and followed the directions to tun it into spice cake and it went from just OK to something everybody loved. HUGE difference. richard
  21. Folks, folks, folks -- this thread is old, old, old. I know of NO hot dogs in the U.S. that aren't gluten-free. Even the Nathan's, which in 2008 was not gluten-free, is now gluten-free. richard
  22. Ravenwood notes correctly that most people with celiac use distilled vinegar with no problem. Let me add that very, very, very few products use distilled vinegar that comes from wheat. Extremely rare. richard
  23. It will quickly get easier, at least with the stuff you make at home. Good luck. richard
  24. I'll pipe in with the negative -- my DH looked nothing at all like that. richard
  25. My house is shared. For the most part the dinners are gluten-free, but that's because it's so easy to make delicious naturally gluten-free dinners. richard
