  1. Wait, Kjas, you wouldn't have children? Simply because of celiac? Or am I misreading this? I had two WONDERFUL children with nary a sign of celiac. Best decision of my life. richard
  2. I've eaten at an MM once and was fine. My reaction takes a few hours to manifest itself, even when the gluten is more than just CC. richard
  3. Please detail the coffees you've found that aren't gluten-free. We know that virtually all ARE gluten-free, but if some aren't it would be helpful to let people know which ones. richard
  4. No way. richard
  5. I think I'd quit the oral antibiotics. I'm not sure where you read about the gum infections (never a problem for me) but even if true if you're gluten-free I'd think that would go away. richard
  6. Yes, DH can disappear (without going gluten-free) and then return. Happened to my father. richard
  7. I suspect their prices would go up considerably. richard
  8. From everything I've ever read, Tinkyada is pretty much as safe as it comes. richard
  9. I'd say there's a chance this isn't even DH at all. If it is, some folks have said it can take as long as 18 months to fully disappear. Mine, OTOH, went away immediately and never returned. And mine was DEFINITELY DH. richard
  10. From what I can see, Starbucks will not GUARANTEE that anything in the store is free of any allergen. Very paranoid. I would just use common sense. richard
  11. This information is to years old. Not reliable. richard
  12. I have mild apnea but didn't develop it until after going gluten-free, so I see no connection in my case. I think we should be careful about trying to link everything to celiac. richard
  13. If you truly have DH and it's truly driving you nuts, consider dapsone for a while (if you haven't tried it already). I know that the side effect warnings scare some but it's better than suicide. I took it for more than 20 years when DH was my only symptom and I didn't know about celiac. richard
  14. Waiting for the office would seem to be a good idea, but in the U.S. I know of virtually no ice cream that isn't gluten-free unless it lists wheat or malt. I definitely don't know of a neopolitan that isn't gluten-free.
  15. NO!! Let them eat gluten. I would not warp my kids' childhood that way unless I knew it were necessary. As for developing other conditions, think back on all of the studies over the decades that have pointed to something dietary causing something, only to have it reversed in the next study. Look at how many times they've gone back and forth over coffee...
  16. Sams: Fruits, vegetables, nuts, Craisins, Crunchmaster crackers, hummus, meats of all kinds, cheese, yogurt, prepackaged deli meats, various candies, coffee, sweetner, toilet paper, different chip type snacks, seafood. And more. richard
  17. Unless somebody eating gluten was also using it, I'd keep looking for another source. I've been gluten-free for more than 10 years and never found a cream cheese with gluten. richard
  18. Most chocolate DOESN'T have wheat. But some does. richard

    ARCHIVED IHOP

I'm certain the IHOP pancake batter comes already mixed in containers -- that's how they make sure they taste the same from restaurant to restaurant. There's no flour flying from mixing it up. I've had good luck at IHOP asking for the fresh egg omelettes. richard
  20. I wouldn't refer to it as "ignorance" -- they just have it wrong or it might be a regional way of talking. I've always thought it strange when folks say they have "the sugar diabetes" or they "caught" a heart attack, but those are expressions I hear. ricahrd
  21. As mentioned, check to see if you can get anything fresh from the back. Depending on how they lay it out, some of the salad fixings could be fairly safe. Fruit. Baked potatoes even if not in foil. I don't remember if they have a carving station, but if they do as long as the meat itself is gluten-free, chance of CC would be less. Soft serve ice cream. The...
  22. I don't think that throwing up is necessarily "normal" in general, but on the 3-4 occasions that I KNOW I've gotten a decent dose of gluten, I've had a headache and thrown up. The nausea hits anywhere between 2 and 4 hours after ingesting and for a while it's fairly severe. Sometimes I have diarrhea and sometimes I don't. I also generally have some chills...
  23. This is sort of embarrassing to admit but maybe posting will help keep somebody else from doing the same type of thing in the future. We were out of town a couple of weeks ago and I saw some Midel cookie gluten-free flavors I hadn't seen before, so I bought two bags. Sunday afternoon I opened the lemon ones and ate a few. A couple of hours later I developed...

    ARCHIVED IHOP

My experience with IHOP is that you ask for the fresh egg omelet and omelets are never cooked in the same place as pancakes. I've never gotten sick from one. I don't do the hash browns. richard
  25. My damage was so severe my doctor described my villi as flat as linoleum. But he couldn't tell that until he looked at a biopsy under the microscope. richard
