  4. You absolutely have to quit eating gluten. Most of the gluten you're eating is very obvious -- pasta, bread, many sauces, anything that lists wheat or malt in the ingredients. Just avoiding those will cut most of the gluten from your diet. And keep reading and studying to cut out the rest. richard

  6. As I said before, sandsurfgirl, McD fries have been independently tested as gluten-free. The most sensitive test in the world cannot find gluten. Also as I said before, the Wendy's fries do NOT have gluten (read the ingredient list) and in the vast majority of their restaurants they are cooked in dedicated fryers. But you DO have to ask. I'm still curious...
  7. The Hardee's (same company as Carl's) where I eat the low carb burger do NOT have dedicated fryers. You need to ask. richard
  8. If it doesn't list wheat it's almost certainly gluten-free. I've yet to find any type of cooking oil that has gluten. richard
  9. I would consider Beano gluten-free. From their FAQ page. "The smallest amount of gluten that can be chemically detected in a product is 0.00016 percent. Results of our testing have shown that Beano contains less than 0.00016 percent gluten." IOW, their testing could not detect gluten in Beano.

  12. Every grain, livestock, food and celiac expert I've heard of agrees that wheat-fed animals are no threat at all to people with celiac. Just look at the number of celiacs who eat them with no ill effect.   14. Sandsurfgirl is right, the chili thing is completely untrue. Not only does Wendy's have a policy against doing this, in most places it would probably violate health laws. richard
  15. Sandsurfgirl, McD's fries have been independently tested by celiac organizations and they test free of gluten. Wheat is NOT used as a binder in them. There is a some small amount of wheat in something to do with the oil before the oil is processed, so they list wheat in the ingredients, but the gluten is processed out. Wheat is also NOT used in Wendy's...
  16. ANYTHING with a sauce is an automatic red flag. As others have said, you have to ask. And Applebees is one of the worst places for us. Generally uncooperative. Take your money elsewhere. richard

  18. Rose, Wendy's has dedicated fryers at almost all of their restaurants, but you need to aks. McD has dedicated fryers at all of theirs. Same with BK, but they seem to be sloppy with it.   19. I've never seen one that isn't, but you need to find out about specific brands or talk to the people making it, not kettle corn in general. richardr
  20. I apologize, but I've read this in so many places that I no longer have a link to where it came from. You might find something through a google search. I've been gluten-free for more than 8 years and really haven't worried at all about sticky labels. richard
  21. Vomiting absolutely is NOT one of the main symptoms. It just isn't. The only time I've vomited from POSSIBLE gluten ingestion was well after I went gluten-free, and I can't be sure that was from gluten. And before I was diagnosed, I was just about as sick as one could get from celiac without dying. richard

  25. If they're calling it a neurosis or calling you picky, they don't mean well. They need to grow up. However, you can't dictate where everybody eats, either. My office always seems to eat at places that are tough for me, but that's life. Glad you were able to pull it together for the second choice. richard
