  1. I had 2 and 4. Both are definitely symptoms. My mouth sores ended as soon as I went gluten-free. The random cravings are because your body is not getting the nutrients it needs. In fact, some malnourished people, including those with celiac, eat dirt or soft rocks because of those cravings for certain minerals. I did when I was a kid but I had no idea why...
  2. I see no need to biopsy UNLESS the doctor is also looking for any other sort of problem. richard
  3. If you're talking about the regular Lay's BBQ chips, the ingredients clearly list "barley malt flour" and their website does NOT list them as gluten-free. They are not gluten-free. richard
  4. Last I remember Ice is gluten-free in Canada because it's made with liquor. In the U.S., it's not. richard

    ARCHIVED Dapsone

If you stop taking dapsone the Dh will come back. I took dapsone for 20 years but the celiac caught up with me (I had never heard of celiac and didn't realize what the DH meant), putting me in the hospital for 11 days and costing me more than 10 weeks of work. You don't want to go there. richard
  6. As Peter said, the limit is most definitely not zero. In fact, Europe allows Codex low-gluten wheat starch, which most people on this list would probably never even touch. richard
  7. Closest PF Chang's, darn it, is two hours away in Greensboro. The only other option is to find a Chinese place where somebody is proficient in English and establish a relationship. I've also been to the local Japanese grill twice. I talked to the owner ahead of time and he was willing to use my soy sauce as long as I brought a whole table of eight people...
  8. Their stuff is about the safest processed thing you can eat in the world. They certify all their suppliers and don;t even allow their employees to bring food with gluten into the plant. Whatever was bothering you, it wasn't gluten from the donuts. richard
  9. If you've been through the blood tests and the biopsy and they were negative, but you feel a lot better on the diet, forget the diagnosis. Go gluten-free. You might even be just gluten intolerant or even allergic to wheat and not have actual celiac. BTW, which brand blue cheese dressing had gluten? Virtually every one I've seen is gluten-free. richard
  10. This makes little sense. If we start absorbing foods and other things properly, why not meds? richard
  11. This is untrue from everything I've ever heard. Please provide a source for this. richard
  12. FOLKS, the original post is very, very old. richard
  13. I answered the topic question.
  14. Hasselbeck's book is not a good source for gluten-free information. Believe me, we all have a lot more to worry about than stick labels. They are gluten-free. richard
  15. From the BelGioso website: "All BelGioioso cheeses are gluten free." richard
  16. Chickens rolling in their feed? You do realize that chickens are plucked and thoroughly washed after they're killed? Anyway, washing chicken before cooking is generally a good idea. richard
  17. Smoking does NOT keep you from having celiac or being damaged by it. Instead, you're damaging yourself two ways, by eating gluten and by smoking. I was a pack-a-day smoker when I got extremely ill from celiac and smoking didn't stop me from having it. richard
  18. Your limited diet certainly isn't helping things. Also, do you lift weights? I know that can burn calories but muscle weighs more than fat. richard
  19. A BIG money saver is not to eat bread at all. I did this because I couldn't stand it anyway. I use corn tortillas (can you have corn?) or just lettuce as the wrapper for a sandwich. Much healthier, as well. Also use the tortillas to make little pizzas. richard
  20. Got to be an allergy. richard
  21. The oil's certainly not going to have gluten UNLESS it's oil they fry wheat products in. richard
  22. I was diagnosed by blood tests and biopsy. I was VERY, VERY, VERY ill, missing 10 weeks of work and in the hospital for 11 days. I started improving nearly immediately, but it was a painfully slow improvement. It took perhaps 8 months for me to feel really normal again. richard
  23. Level depends on the lab but generally speaking below 20 is OK. richard
  24. Definitely not the greatest place for somebody with celiac, but call ahead. richard
  25. IMO mushroom is making it sound a little too scary. Soups and sauces definitely can contain gluten, but stocks in general are in fact gluten-free. Yes, you need to be careful, but I don't think you need to make your house completely gluten-free for all time. Scrub those counters and be as gluten-free as possible when the granddaughter is there, but I see...
