  1. Never ever had a problem with paprika or found wheat in it. If it does have wheat, the wheat MUST by U.S. law be listed. If there's no wheat listed, it doesn't have it. Other than a few specialized marinades or spice mixes (which ALWAYS list the wheat), this thing about putting wheat in spices as an anti-caking ingredient is nothing more than a celiac...
  2. Band-aids do not contain gluten. However, some people react to other ingredients. richard
  3. If ALL the McDs there fry their fries in the same oil as other things they are violating their franchise rules. Personally, I don't believe it. The mayo is most definitely gluten-free so blasting McD over the mayo is useless. In fact, I know of no mayo in the U.S. that has gluten. MFS is NEVER made from rye or barley and if it were made from wheat (which...
  4. Got this from Connie Sarros' e-mail newsletter. Didn't know if it had been posted here yet: Betty Crocker Does It Again! The prevalence of celiac disease has had quite an impact on food companies. They hear the demand for more gluten-free products and they're responding. Betty Crocker will soon have your grocer's shelves stocked with gluten-free...
  5. I can't guarantee this, but I'm betting the "gluten" 7-Eleven says some Slurpees contain is actually corn gluten from the high fructose corn syrup. Note that those same products say there's no detectable level of wheat, and the odds are very strong that they would not contain barley, rye, or oats. richard
  6. This answer means the cheese is gluten-free. Virtually every cheese out there, even the veined ones, is gluten-free. richard
  7. It's not at all unusual to be insatiably hungry when you start healing from celiac. Your body is starved for the nutrients it wasn't getting. richard
  8. I've never ever found a raw poultry that had gluten, even the ones that list broth. richard
  9. All gluten-free beers have the calories. richard
  10. Probably a calculated move, not a boneheaded one. For the most part, Americans like their noodles with wheat, even in Asian dishes that shouldn't have it. I've even been to places that put soy sauce with wheat in Pad Thai to cater to American "tastes."
  11. Some beers that aren't wheat based have an almost immeasurable amount of gluten because the barley malt has so little. I still don't drink them, but i can see how somebody with an allergy might be fine. Some people with a wheat allergy are able to eat spelt. richard
  12. DH is ALWAYS extremely Itchy. One description of it I heard went something like "it feels like you're covered with poison ivy and wrapped in a wool blanket filled with hay and red ants." It's VERRRRRRY itchy (and somewhat painful, but more itchy). richard
  13. Note that this is a VERY old thread and information in it is quite out of date. Cheeses in general are all gluten-free. Including blue cheeses. richard
  14. This sounds nothing like my DH. Never had purple scars for one. My DH was like the blisters you get from a burn or poison ivy, not red spots. And VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY itchy. I also never had DH on my face. Did I mention that it itched like crazy? richard

Ummm, every chicken piccata recipe I know of uses flour for dredging. This is not something I would have even considered eating at ANY restaurant. The restaurant employee who told you it was gluten-free might not have been lying but might have been one of those folks who doesn't think white flour has wheat. richard
  16. Generally speaking we need to assume that malt is made from barley because it usually is, but any grain can be malted, such as sorghum for gluten-free beer. richard
  17. Yes, it can cause sudden anemia. Can't say that's the cause here, though. richard
  18. Doesn't sound or look like DH to me. I had it for 20 years. richard
  19. YOU HAVE CELIAC!!!! No question. richard
  20. ALL have it. For regular customers the soy sauce is NOT gluten-free, but when you make it clear you need gluten-free, no problem. richard
  21. For those who don't know, Bonefish, Carraba's and Outback are all related. richard
  22. I don't mean to argue either, but times are VERY different from years ago. I am misleading no one. Virtually all processed meats are gluten-free. Call the company to verify. Boar's Head clearly states that ALL of its products are gluten-free, including all meats. Buddig clearly states that ALL of its lunch meats are gluten-free. Hillshire Farm has said...
  23. Iga somewhere around 70; ttg 220 or so. Over 20 was positive. And villi were completely flat.
  24. I just finished a package of Nathans! Yummy. richard
  25. Peter is right. Nathan's took the wheat out of their hot dogs months ago. richard
