  1. My GI said the same thing. It's not always the case... but he said that in many instances, going on a gluten free diet after realizing gluten sensitivity, can prevent Celiac if one has the genes and predisposition.
  2. I was in San Francisco last year, at the Stanford Celiac Conference. Our food was catered by the San Francisco Soup Company. Their food was yummy! Obviously... I didn't GO there, so I surely can't tell you where it is - but I can tell you that I was very pleasantly surprised. =)
  3. I would NOT trust a hospital!!!! My daughter was hospitalized in December. When she was admitted, we told everyone who would listen that she is gluten free. It was on her chart, it was on her wrist band, it was on the sign outside her door. It was recorded with the dietitian and nutrition staff as well as the kitchen staff. I was "assured" that if something...
  4. IgG is a more sensitive test, however... less specific to Celiac. IgA is a less sensitive test but more specific to Celiac. The two are used to monitor compliance with a gluten free diet. So, I find it odd for them to tell you that they don't matter. If they don't matter, why are they part of the panel?? I wish all doctors were made to go back to school...
  5. I've made Wacky Cake for my egg allergic daughter!! Although, I haven't tried since going gluten-free. I am not yet comfortable with mixing flours - so I use Beth's All Purpose gluten-free flour. It's a mix like what you are describing, but I have no idea what the proportions are. I found this... don't know if it'll help: 2 cups white rice flour...
  6. I'm always amused when part of the test is positive, but the doctors say it's negative. Same thing with my daughter... only 1 of the 4 parts was positive. Our allergist said the panel was negative. Her GI disagreed. With my older son's... 3 of the 4 were positive, and yet... I was told the panel was negative. He had a positive tTg, positive IgA and positive...
  7. I love reading such positive things about WDW. I'm taking my kiddos in December! I've heard great things about Liberty Tavern!! =)
  8. I have taken allergy shots for years. I have severe inhalant allergies - dust mites, mold spores, dander... and a long list of others. My allergist is very big on immunotherapy and it does help to lessen the severity of the issues. However, he doesn't do immunotherapy for food allergies. If he did... I would think my children would be first in line. But...
  9. I don't know what normal is for a child... but I do know that the "norm" varies depending on the lab you use. An example... at the lab we go through, the normal IgA (for total syrum) is 70-400. So, for us... a 1 would be, well... nonexistent. If you are refering to the IgA to gliadin antibodies... again, that will vary by lab and you'd have to know...
  10. I have not been in this situation, but would love to read the responses from those who have. My son is a Cub Scout and is supposed to go to Webelo Camp this summer. Both of us are gluten free - and I have no idea how that is going to work. I hope you get a lot of responses!
  11. Congrats!!! =) I'm also one who was having weight issues prior to going gluten-free. Since going 100% gluten-free and sticking with it (Nov 15th) - I've lost 40 lbs!!! I gained 70 lbs with my last pregnancy, the one that did me in. And, I'm finally getting rid of the baby weight, and he's 16 months old now! LOL!! I have another 30 to go..... but...
  12. Gosh, I feel so alone here. I really like Van's Waffles! Matter of fact, I just bought some Van's gluten-free Buckwheat Waffles this evening, and can't wait to try them. Perhaps it's because I've never tried Trader Joes.... we don't have one. But, I really like Van's.
  13. I am one of the lucky folks who has had gi problems my entire life. They seemed to disappear once I hit my teenage years. Over the years, I've had miscellaneous episodes of GI issues but I could never pinpoint anything, and always just assumed I just simply had random tummy problems. My third child arrived in August of 05. When he was a week old, I developed...
  14. What you are describing sounds more like ADD than ADHD. But, you are right... it could be a gluten issue. Our daughter has ADHD combo type, and she's a very difficult child. I adore her...but she's difficult. My older son, however, has always been a very mild mannered, even tempered, terrific kid. As we started removing gluten from the house after my...
  15. LOL!!!! The next time I go for pizza, I'll be sure to ask! =) We buy pizza crusts from the same bakery that supplies theirs. And, I make pizza at home. But, there is something so much better tasting about a pizza baked in a pizza oven, as opposed to MY oven. KWIM??
  16. I'm sorry for what you are going through. All 3 of my children are gluten intolerant. The oldest was the last to be tested as he was symptom free for many years. We didn't start noticing any problems until we'd started limiting how much gluten he was eating. He actually had tested negative twice in the past, and this last time - not so much. I think...
  17. Hiya! Waldo Pizza isn't in Kansas - it's on the Missouri side of the state line, 75th and Wornall. And, it's SOO yummy. We've been there 3 or 4 times now. We like to go on the "off times" though, since it tends to be horribly crowded at dinner time. Cross contamination scares me, even though they've all been trained with regards to the issue. I wasn't...
  18. I was also wondering if perhaps it's just not the brand/type of tea that might be causing the issue. Green tea, which is supposed to be so good for you, really makes my stomach churn. What did they tell you??
  19. I'm a redhead - and I'm Irish/German. Obviously.... since my children have my dna, they also share in my heritage. However, none of them have red hair, much to my dismay. Both my boys have brown hair and my daughter is a blondie. I can see, in years to come, one of my kiddos will post here and say..... "hey, yea... my mom has red hair!!" ...
  20. I'm not IgA deficient and I have a very high positive to IgG AB's - without IgA AB's (high normal). Same with my daughter. IgG is less specific to Celiac/gluten intolerance - but it's a more sensitive test... while IgA is less sensitive, but more specific to Celiac/gluten sensitivity, which is why they are ordered together. tTg is specific ONLY to...

    ARCHIVED Scary Doctor

My daughter, who was 4 at the time of her dx with gluten intol - gained 5 lbs in 7 months after starting a gluten-free diet. She also grew 3 inches in height. I just wanted to let you know that, because my daughter's blood and endoscopy were both "questionable" for Celiac. She had no villi damage, according to endoscopy - yet had ulcers in her duodenum...
  22. What's it sweetened with??
  23. Ok, I have to add..... after looking through the pics, I'm cracking up! I also refer to my daughter as "Bean." She stood her looking at the pics with me,.... "ohhhhing and ahhhhhing" at all the yummy food. How long were you at Disney? We'll be there for 6d/5n - with 4 days in the parks, one at Kennedy Space Center.
  24. Ohh, I'm so glad to read this! I'm going to go look at your pics in a minute. We are heading to WDW in December....and all 5 of us are now gluten free. It's going to be an adventure, that's for SURE!!!! Got any tips for me??? If it would be easier, I can provide you with me email address if you have a ginormous list!! LOL!
  25. YES!! It's called You Are Special, and I read that book to my Sunday school class a couple weeks ago!!! LOL!! Honestly, I have no idea what stars y'all are talking about. I just wondered if Srokie hung around, and it looks as if she's flown the coop, eh??
