  1. I'm glad to read this. Sad that the person who wrote the letter is clueless....but as a parent of a Celiac child, it sure does OPEN MY EYES to the fact that I NEED to be educating my children, and not just providing their safe foods. They need to be taught that while it's perfectly fine to eat pizza at home, they can't go to pizza hut with their friends and...
  2. Oye! Can subs be used? Like... soy milk, soy cheese, and "fake" butter? Probably not, huh?? Geepers. I hadn't even THOUGHT of butter and cheese. Geez.
  3. Thank you, thank you!!! =) I appreciate it!!
  4. No one has any cookbook recommendations???
  5. I have 3 children, 2 of which are gluten-free - as am I. We are still very new to this....but I'm getting VERY tired of eating the same old "safe" things. I'm looking for a recommendation of a child friendly gluten-free cookbook. Diary free is a must for my daughter and younger son. But, I can always SUB soy for regular milk. =) Thank you in advance...
  6. Corn and blackbean salsa with montery jack cheese...... yum!
  7. I had digestive and gastro issues as a child. Once I hit my teenaged years... they stopped. Then I had kids, and they started again.... worse. So, I believe there IS a period of remission. But, if you KNOW you are not supposed to eat Gluten, it's not license to go ahead and start. I had NO idea...due to the fact that my parents didn't bother to pursue...
  8. My daughter is allergic to wheat. She also has Celiac, but she IS allergic to wheat as well as intolerant to it. Gluten intolerance is something that most doctors don't seem to "get" yet. She can be intolerant without having Celiac. I agree, if a gluten-free diet works... who cares what the tests say! =)
  9. Does anyone know WHY great value brands now have their gluten-free status indicated on the packaging?? Well.... it's because one of the "really really high ups" in the Walmart Company IS a Celiac!!!! Now, whether or not that information is true, I don't really know. But, it was told to us at a CSA meeting, by someone who runs a gluten-free bakery and...
  10. Offhand, are you familiar with any antacids that ARE gluten-free?? I'm getting ready to head out the door to work, but I surely don't want to continue downing the tums if they aren't gluten-free. Sheesh!
  11. Awww crud! Really????? *running to get my bottle* TUMS Smoothies - Cocoa & Creme cocoa powder corn starch dextrose (?) guar gum magnesium stearate maltodextrin (??????) <----- i'm always confused with anything with the word "malt" in it microcrystalline celulose natural (?) and artificial flavors silicon dioxide (what the h*ll is that...
  12. Are you sure you aren't having Braxton Hicks contractions? At 32 weeks, that's VERY possible!!! I've had 3 - and they got earlier and earlier with each subsequent pregnancy. With my 1st, I was about 32 weeks or so when the BH contrax started!! Ooohhh... the countdown is on!!!! =) =) =) =)
  13. Well, I'm actually VERY glad I did have the biopsy. My doctor was looking for "other" damage, since I didn't seem to present with "classic" Celiac symptoms. I had NO idea I had GERD, or a hiatal hernia, or scaring in my esophogus!! I knew I had "a slight case of reflux" but it turns out that it's much more severe than I would have thought. So, because of...
  14. Got my results, a week earlier than I was told I would. Why? Because it was completely negative. I'm not sure how many samples they took, but they took from my intestines and esophagus (due to scaring) - and everything came back neg -a- tive. My throat has hurt, constantly, since the biopsy. I thought I had strep, as it's going around my son's school...
  15. I've always known I had reflux, but I didn't know it was GERD until my endoscopy last week. My esophogus is scarred, and I've been told that I absoultely MUST take Prevacid - and stay away from tomatoes, citrus, chocolate - and anything else that could cause the LES to relax. =( I'm also gluten-free - officially, as of Thursday. But, since I've never really...
  16. My name is Kris, and I'm a pizzaholic. Next line.... My name is Kris - and I suffer GERD - so I can't eat tomatoes.... tomato sauce, or any of my other favorite pizza toppings. Big problem, eh?? So, what else can I use to make a pizza??? Is there such thing as a low acid tomato sauce? Is there such thing as a dairy/lactose free alfredo sauce? ...
  17. Due to the extent of my GERD issues (scaring in my esophagus) - he doesn't want me to have carbonation or caffeine. And, the paper I got says chocolate is an irritant too. Seriously.... you should see all the stuff I was told I *can not* have due to the GERD issues alone.
  18. Yes. I just didn't want to spell it. LOL!!! My GI wants me OFF carbonated beverages, as well as those with caffeine. I'm trying.... I really am.
  19. Hey! That's what I said! LOL! After my baby's baptism last November, I didn't bathe him for 3 days - because he smelled SOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!! =)

  21. EGD - esophagogastroduodenoscopy I can't tell you how badly I WANT a diet coke right now...... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
  22. Hiya! Generally speaking.... doctors don't do a colonoscopy to look for Celiac, the correct test is the Endoscopy, as the villi damage is noted to be in the small intestine. I just had one yesterday....and it wasn't bad at all. You'll read a lot of people here will tell you to just go ahead and TRY a complete gluten-free diet. If you really do have gluten...
  23. I actually only had the one dose. That's why I'm so confused. I got both through an IV. Once I left the hospital, that was it. My husband keeps saying, "It's the gluten... it's the gluten." I think it's the gluten/caffeine with drawl. (is that possible??) In all honesty, I'm usually a 2-3 diet cokes a day kind of person. (usually 22 oz size)...
  24. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! The support here is seriously enough to "turn that frown upside down." I am so glad I can come here in the worse mood ever, and leave here feeling like I don't have things so bad off. I'm really hoping you are right about the GERD stuff!! I take 30 mg Prevacid daily, but haven't taken anything for the lactose problem...
  25. Our CSA group puts on a gluten-free thanksgiving dinner every year for it's members. I was really excited to hear that. I hadn't thought about it much, until now. I just can't see my MIL making a bunch of "extra" stuff for me and the kids. I'm going to keep following this thread, and figure out how to approach the issue!
