  1. I know because I pay attention. Since chemicals are something that interest me, I listen when they are mentioned on the news. I think everyone has personal filters and they take in what's important to them. There was that whole milk/calcium thing on this thread and none of it made sense to me. This weekend I realized that since I never liked milk, I probably...
  2. I have a friend who's major symptom is acid reflux. She's discovered that she also gets it from other things, like apples and cucumbers. Maybe your sister is having reactions to other foods.
  3. This is what every MD I've talked to also says. Not because of some huge pharmacy conspiracy, but because if you have a reaction to something, and you've taken an unregulated product, it may be impossible to figure out what caused the problem and/or how to treat it. This doesn't mean there aren't safe products available, just be careful, and do your research...
  4. Although your body may yet have something to say about it .
  5. Glad I'm not the only slightly clueless person here
  6. Actually not pretending. This whole bit here made no sense and what cow worshipping aliens are you talking about? Hindus? And I don't watch a lot of TV, so only vaguely remember 'got milk' commercials. Did they promote milk as something other than a tasty beverage? Sorry, really clueless here. I am, however, willing to believe that I live in very...
  7. Why would anyone choose to get their health information from a television commercial?
  8. Maybe probiotics. But whatever you add, start slowly.
  9. Not to dis anyone or be argumentative, but I think the correct phrasing is "the public being willing to be misled" Both of my parents had only a high school education, and growing up we were fed whole, unprocessed foods. Lower fat and lower sodium foods. Never once in my childhood did I eat in a fast food restaurant. They simply passed on what they...
  10. What on earth are you talking about?
  11. It also interferes with some prescription meds. Be sure to tell your doc that you're taking it.
  12. Start baking. Maybe you can change her immediate response from: I can't have that , to: how can I make that?
  13. Think about when you were 20 and you drank so much rum that you spent the next day sprawled on the bathroom floor cherishing the toilet. How long was it before you could even smell rum without feeling nauseous? My guess is that it's probably something like this. His body has learned to associate the smell of wheat with becoming sick, and so it does...
  14. Lots, unfortunately. I would skip the ground beef and lettuce. Try chicken, rice and well cooked veggies. Add back other foods slowly.
  15. On the other hand... If you go completely gluten-free for 6 months to a year, you will have a much better understanding of what she's going through. When SHE wants toast, you'll know what substituting gluten-free toast feels like. When SHE wants to learn how to make gluten-free donuts, you'll be much more willing to go through the hassle of learning...
  16. Nama, sunscreen blocks the ability of the body to synthesize vitamin D from sunlight. Also, the more north you live, the less sunlight is available. (The angle of the sun is such that not enough comes through the atmosphere to be able to initiate vitamin D synthesis.) In Seattle, for example, sunlight that reaches us September through May is insufficient...
  17. Hi! Welcome to the board. Don't worry, it does all get easier. You can find substitutes for most things, although you might decide it's better to just redesign your diet. Like maybe a baked potato for breakfast instead of an english muffin.
  18. There are a LOT of people who don't bother with a medical diagnosis. Unless you have some specific need for it, you don't need to pursue it.
  19. AFAIK you're right. But I've heard another naturopath refer to intolerances as allergies. Maybe it's just there way of looking at them. Both mean you need to avoid the substance.

    ARCHIVED Omg.....

I second the glutino flax bread and bagels. You can make your own tapioca based bread buns, google 'brazillian cheese bread'. I also use it for pizza crust.
  21. You mean other than making other scientists feel less geeky?

At least it sounds like you have a good doctor who's willing to work with you. I like the vanilla almond milk for cereal and it turns into a fabulous chocolaty milk at then end of your coco pebbles. I use unflavored rice milk for cooking, but only because my store doesn't have unflavored almond.
  23. I am so sorry. Sending you many hugs and support through cyberspace.
  24. These were the first gluten-free noodles I ever had. They have a stronger flavor than mainstream spinach noodles, but I like spinach so that works for me. Otherwise, the texture is pretty similar to the regular Tinkyada.
