Weekend Retreat

I'm planning to take my girls on a Mother-Daughter retreat this year, in October. I've talked to the camp about special dietary needs and they have no problem with people bringing their own food.

My girls will most likely be just eating their cafeteria food. What are good gluten-free choices that travel well and are easy to fix, that I could carry along and eat while my girls eat the cafe food?

Oh my...that sounds so perfect. I'd love to do that with my little girl!

Will you have access to a fridge or something to cook on? That would make a difference.

I need to find out what implements are available.

Will the retreat offer rooms with kitchenettes that you can work with? In the past before gluten-free, and I was vegan I had. To travel a bit and was often hooked up with accommodations that gave me a mini kitchen to cook with. See if that csn happen for you, so things won't be so crazy. Now when I travel I always ask and see if possible. As of late it's beyond preferred.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
