Blood Test Results

I got these results a couple of weeks ago...EGD with biopsy done last Friday to confirm.

TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE AB, IGA = 22
IMMUNOGLOBULIN A = 250
ENDOMYSIAL ANTIBODY SCR (IGA) W/REFL TO TITER = Positive
ENDOMYSIAL ANTIBODY TITER = 1:40

My 7 yr old son has celiac, so I imagine he "got" it from me genetically.

I also had a colonoscopy done on Friday which determined I have ulcerative colitis. I am being treated for that specifically, and have since started a gluten-free diet like my son based on my blood test results.

Just introducing myself to the online community here. Thanks for being here!

Thanks! I am hopeful. I am honestly grateful that the diagnosis wasn't worse.

So true!  At least it is something that won't require life long meds like so many autoimmune problems do. Celiac can be very bad, but as you said, it could be much worse.  :)

Well, the ulcerative colitis I was also diagnosed with will require lifelong meds! However, the worse I was thinking of was cancer or crohns disease (though ulcerative colitis and crohns are closely related, but UC only affects the lower intestine). I'll take lifelong meds and adjusted diet over chemo or radiation therapy!

Welcome, I wasn't clear if you are positive for celiac or still waiting for a definitive answer on that.  I am glad for a disease that does not take medication, but only diet.  Who Knows, though, what will happen for you?  Best wishes for your healing.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
