Do you prefer to go alone or take someone with yoy to see G.I? How much blood do they draw for celiac panel? Asking as I am anemic and have fainted from blood drawl before (when pregnant though).

Hi...that's a tough one. I've gone to appointments by myself and wished I had someone with me. I've also dragged someone with me and then realized I didn't need anyone. Lol! If you are anxious about it and feel like it might help to have someone there then do that. My husband is such a calming presence when I'm worried...it's nice to have him at appointments that make me really anxious. Good luck with your appointment!

Well, it all depends on how comfortable you are with medical terminology and if you think you will be able remember to ask the questions you have. You really have to be your own advocate, so if you think you can do that and are comfortable going by yourself that is just fine.

As far as the amount of blood, it depends on what your Dr. orders. They might want to run vitamins, minerals, in addition to blood counts and antibody tests...ect.

I work in a lab and have been doing testing and drawing blood for years. My guess is it will be somewhere between 3-5 tubes of blood. Even if you are very anemic this really shouldn't cause you much problem because it's only a few tablespoons of blood. It looks like more blood than it is, the tubes volume is actually pretty small. Most people have more of an issue with being squeemish about seeing blood than having blood volume level issues from your  typical blood draw.

I know when I was fulltime glutened I couldn't remember much to begin with, so probably a good idea.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
