Hi,

So ive had cramps and diarrhea last year for 3 months non stop, and this year as well and the doc decided to perform celiac blood tests. I got the results from the lab but the doc wasnt there, and i left Belgium (where i used to live and did the tests) the next day to move to UK. And i never talked to the doc again and i no longer have insurance there to do so. But I do not know how to interpret the tests. And that would mean a lot to find out if this is whats causing my daily problems. :(

Transglut 1.3 <8

IgG <25 <=50

IgA <25 <=50

IgA Negative <10

Hi! Welcome to the forum.

It is the weekend, so the forum is pretty quiet. Someone who might be able to interpret your results should show up soon.

It's hard to tell from what you have posted. Is there any more information on the lab report such as units. or headings to the columns?

No :( that is all they say. And i am eager to learn as im having serious diarrhea problems, and i dont want to go have an endoscopy and crohns tests if this is my solution :(

Which numbers are your numbers and which are the lab control numbers?

i wish i knew? i assume mine are the first ones, because of the word 'negative' there

I'd go back for testing where you are now.  I would also think that they could still talk to you--or at least email you the full report-for the tests you've had done.  Do they have an online system there where you can look up your test results?  Maybe there is better info there???

no they dont.

i will go for blood tests here. its just that im so stressed i cannot sleep or relax the past days, and i hoped if this showed i have celiac i would have calmed down.

Well, if you read them one way, you have Celiac :D.  That last IGA number is strange but you could say that all of the numbers show that if you are greater than 25 you are Celiac and your numbers are greater than or equal to 50 :D.

haha. i think its the other way round(mainly because of the 1.3?-very random number). the last Iga is the endomysium IgA (was done in a french country so i really have no idea how this is called in english). that maybe normal should be below 10 and i have negative. does it make sense?

From the results posted, it looks to me like you are negative for celiac but also deficient in IgA and IgG. I can't tell for sure though until you can post the actual whole lab results with reference ranges.

there have no ranges. this is whats written on their paper.

I would ask for a official copy of your lab results. Those results make no sense to me and I was a lab tech for 16 years.

thats from the official copy lol. its a...quite special country in their approaches. but i guess the results mean <=50 is normal, and mine is <25.

beth01 Enthusiast

It should look something like

Tissue Transglutaminase IgA 37.4* < 4 Negative

*Positive value indicative of Celiac Sprue

Total IgA 143 80-450

No help from me then. I would ask for verification from a doctor as to what those results mean. If you are deficient in IgA and IgG, those tests are invalid

i agree and i wish it was like this. i guess their numbers are not very common either then.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

It all depends on the instrumentation and methodology they are using for testing. Even here in the states, it differs from Lab to Lab.

If you don't need a diagnosis, you could always go gluten free and see if it helps.

it did help, but i hoped i could skip the celiac tests and save sometime in case this was the problem.

Those are all negative. But they didn't do the DGP or the EMA, which are more accurate. Very common to have one test positive and others negative.

      If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch--thanks for the tip about Dupixent, and I've added it to the article:

      I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..." Anyway, there is definitely a connection, and you can go through more of the articles here if you're interested: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/migraine-headaches-and-celiac-disease/

      Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

      @tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!

      Thank you for sharing all of this, Knitty Kitty! I did just want someone to share some commonality with. I did not know This one Deficiency was a thing and that it's common for Celiac Disease. It makes sense since this is a disorder that causes malabsorption. I will have to keep this in mind for my next appointments. You also just spurred me on to make that Dietician appointment. There's a lot of information online but I do need to see a professional. There is too much to juggle on my own with this condition.<3
