Vanilla extract -Back Bay Trading

I've seen mixed info on pure vanilla extract containing gluten or not. I have a bottle of Back Bay Trading pure vanilla, but can't find info. I emailed yesterday but haven't heard back and I need to make a bday cake in the next few hours. I have a baby so don't want to go to the store if I don't have to. Couldn't find a phone number online so I'm asking here and hoping.

I am sure that am sure that I have missed your deadline for the cake. It really depends on the alcohol used. Technically I believe all alcohol is classified as under 20ppm so they can all claim they are gluten free. I make my own, but that's a long process. If I have to buy, I dont purchase unless it says gluten-free

Vanilla extract is gluten free. Distilled alcohol is gluten-free--anything distilled will be gluten-free. The gluten molecule is too large to pass through the distillation process.

I use the Costco brand or Schilling.  Like Peter said, it is safe.

Ok thanks, everyone. I read I could sub maple syrup so that's what I did for the cake. After reading your comments I will open the vanilla and be ready for next time :)

i use back bay brand (on sale at big lots!  yay!)  ingredients:  water, alcohol, and vanilla bean extractives  :)  no problems and i have used nearly half the bottle.

Awesome!  I bought it at a similar store for $3 and then panicked over the gluten thing so YAY for it being ok!

      Blood Test for Celiac wheat type matters?

      I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

      I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten...

      Wheatwacked, are you speaking of the use of potassium bromide and and azodicarbonamide as dough modifiers being controlling factor for what? Do you refer to celiac reactions to gluten or thyroid disease, kidney disease, GI cancers?
