Antigliadin Iga (if Iga Deficient)

Okay,

My Gastro said he pretty much ruled out Celiac because the TTg was negative and the antigliadin IGA was negative (zero in fact). The Antigliadin IGG was 21 where 0-9 was normal. He had me do the barium test and the 72 hour fecal fat test. (HORRID test). That showed 15.4 where (0-6) is normal, so I showed for malabsorption.

So anyway, here is the interesting part, I called a celiac helpline which is connected to Chicago University. They told me that having an absolute 0 for the antigliadin IGA test is a red flag for total IGA deficiency. So anyway, I thought I would pass that along.

I was also wondering what other people had for their Antigliadin IGA score. Is it really that rare to be 0?

Sorry I can't help and I'm sitting here in the same boat with you figuring out what my blood test results mean. Only my tTg is high (weak positive) and the EMA wasn't done even though I was told it was being done too. All the other tests were negative which I hope is good. But all the other tests results don't even have a number - just says negative. The doc just told me less than an hour ago he was sure I don't have celiac disease and the biopsy will prove it. Also when I asked what the antibody level being high could mean - he said, your test results are inconclusive but I'm sure you don't have Celaic disease. Note that the number 7 was flagged and stated below - this antibody is 99% specific to gluten sensitive enteropathy. Now I get to go to yet another doc (2nd GI) the end of Dec. because I'm not giving my copay/ins. $ to this quack for the biopsy!

Oh and my test results say 0-4 is negative, >4 positive for the antigliadin IgA test for a reference.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
