Celiac or Gluten sensitive?

gluten confused

gluten confused Rookie

Hello! I'm an older adult who just received my celiac blood panel results and as so many others, I'm confused. Can anyone help me interpret my results?

My results are the following:

Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgA   6

Negative 0-19, weak positive 20-30, moderate to strong positive > 30

Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG   58

Negative 0-19, weak positive 20-30, moderate to strong positive > 30

t-Transglutaminase (TTG)  IgA   3

       Negative 0-3, weak positive 4-10, positive >10

t-Transglutaminase (TTG)  IgG   8

       Negative 0-5, weak positive 6-9, positive >9

Endomysial Antibody IgA   negative

Immunoglobulin A , Qn, Serum    165        87-352(mg/dL)

My doctor called and told me to start a gluten free diet until my next appointment.  Are these results consistent with celiac or with gluten sensitive disease?

Thank you for your help.

If you are going to have further testing - like the endoscopy, you need to continue eating gluten.

You have a positive on the celiac panel.  It just takes one.  I just had one positive (DGP IgA) on the complete panel, yet my biopsies obtained during an endoscopy confirmed my diagnosis.  Your PCP should refer you to a GI.  He should tell you to keep consuming gluten daily until all testing (endoscopy) is complete.  It is obvious that they are not following diagnosis protocol.

Research more.  The University of Chicago' celiac website is well-written:

i wish you well!

Ditto on the above. Stay on the donuts until the biopsy is completed.

Thank you to all who have taken their time to help me. I really appreciate it.

Is it possible to have Celiac without having a reaction to IgA? In my case, my positive results were related to IgG.

To Victoria5289, can you elaborate a little more on your commentary, because I can´t really understand it. Thank you.

Yes, in fact, the Celiac Center in Chicago informed me that DGP IGG would more likely point to celiac then DGP IGA. Though I am unclear why. Both tests can catch celiac.

HOWEVER, both tests can result in a positive biopsy and both tests can ALSO produce a positive in folks who do not have celiac.

Best to stay on gluten in order to rule in/out the disease. My old primary made the same mistake of telling me to start a gluten free diet before all testing was done.

The user who commented before just joined and is having difficulty conveying her thoughts clearly. You have been given good advice above by others.

Get a GI who understands celiac and will take at least 4-6 biopsies if you do the endo.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding

I think I found a huge culprit for severe reactions to create worsening of my c symptoms. Do people with celiac have sensitivity and /or have opposite reaction to certain medications Where can I find a list ?  I'm new here I'm.wondering why I am getting worse when I take certain medicine...the burning feet.  Rebound muscle pain so intense  How many people get opposite effects or have a horrible attack after these meds

Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
