I've been gluten-free for a month and a week, and I am seven days late on my period. I'm normally on the pill, but wasn't this past month due to some logistical errors on my part.

Before you say that I'm preggers, let me say that two HPT's and a blood test reveal otherwise.

Anyway, I've been on the pill for 7 years, but, I have taken breaks here and there, and I'd always get my period like I did when I was off the pill, 28 day cycle, etc. I've always been super regular from my first period on, you could set a watch by it!

My last couple periods were really light, so maybe the pill was the only thing making me have a period every month? Or is it that my body is totally out of whack from the gluten-free diet?

Truly, my diet didn't change *that* radically, I didn't eat tons of gluten to begin with.

WHERE DID MY PERIOD GO?!?!?!

Also, on another note, how do I decontaminate my DH after he eats gluten? He's getting frustrated that he can't kiss me and kind of thinks I'm going overboard...

Any thoughts either subject would be fantastic!!! I'm flipping out a little here!!!

I've read about hormonal imbalances being linked to Celiac, and with you being off the pill for a while, it could just be messing with your hormones. If you are really concerned about it, talk to your gyn. about it.

As far as decontaminating hubby! I just ask my hubby to brush his teeth and use mouthwash and make sure his hands are washed... Yes he thinks I'm going overboard too, but I've been glutened too many times from him. Yep, it happens!

Well, i, like you, have gone on and off the pill for around 7 years, and went off it in July (and went gluten-free in June). I am STILL waiting for my period! (and no, im not 8 months pregnant :P ). For me I am fairly sure it is a combination of the two things together- going off gluten and the pill. but i always had very light periods on the pill, leading me to think that the only reason i was getting it was b/c of the pill. I dont have any official answers for you, but just wanted to share so you dont freak out yet-- it will come!

When I first did the south beach diet I did it with a friedn and niether of us got our period. We were both freaking out seperatly until we talked about it and then it was very funny.

A word of caution though, if you don't have your period for more than six months, check with your doctor. It can be an early warning of osteoporosis.

I'm really interested in the hormal imbalance thing. I was taking Progesterone shots at one time to lenthen the luteal phase, since we briefly tried for another child. I've been real bad about notating my periods on my calendar, but the few I've written down I've noticed that my cycles have been barely over 3 weeks long. This is my 2nd totally gluten-free cycle and I'm on day 27. Could it be that the gluten was causing the luteal insufficiency?

Also, I noticed huge differences in my energy level/brain fog symptoms over the course of my last two cycles. I'm about ready to get my hormone levels checked. Weird.

Do you have links to the places you've read about hormonal imbalances and Celiac?

I have been gluten-free for about 3 months, my last cycle was 2 weeks late, I have never been on the pill however. But I can comment on the amount of stress associated with changing ur lifestyle and the emotional rollercoster ive been on because of it has a lot to do with it. Also the diet itself isnt giving my body the same amount of nutrients i was getting before. Until I started forcing myself to eat better, i was late.

If your malnurished (sp) or under a lot of stress that has a huge toll on ur cycle.

The friend finally came to town (as I was going out of town, of course), 10 days late. Boo. Back on the pill though, thanks for the responses!

I read that late onset menstruation can be a side affect of celiac, I was two days before my 14th birthday. Hmm, wonder if that was related...interesting

I noticed eating gluten-free or CGF foods have higher sugar and sodium some. No added sugar protein bars I found better with plant fiber. I wanted to know what are you go to besides whole fruits/veggies that you find are healthy for you where you can feel eating normal without hurting yourself or health. I was looking into subscription based like Thrift to see if there is something that is healthier CGF that can make me feel normal. Thanks

Thankyou because I met up with K B with well known bay area hospital once and she said she knows I don't like to take meds, I said thats incorrect, I have issues.Thats the one that said I was deemed " unruly " when she admitted I was celiac when I asked why am I going through this.

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.
