Why Won't It Let Me...

Why won't it let me keep "gluten-free" just as I type it? When I go back through and read a post I typed... it always puts it as "gluten-free". It keeps all the other initials.... DH... D... etc. Why not "G.F."? It's a pain to have to type gluten-free all the time...so in my posts I just use the initials. I don't understand why it gets fixed?

GRRR! It did it again... unless I put periods in between the letters it spells out the words. I don't get it!

Scott has some automatic short-form thing-a-ma-jingy on here where if you just type the initials, it automatically pops in what that stands for. "C.D." is another. Some people have typed C.D. (without the periods) in a post about compact discs, and it automatically comes up Celiac Disease.

It's called a macro - computer short cut in other words. So for girl friend it would be Gluten-free or G.F. or something like that. Otherwise it will be read as gluten-free. I used the initials "celiac disease" when posting about my walkman or discman as they now are. posted as celiac disease walkman. Makes for strange posts.

I think it's very strange and a pain in the butt, I like to use abbreviations too, and same thing D-H- for DEAR HUSBAND NOT dermatitis herpeteformis... I wish he'd turn it off. I understand why because some people don't know the abbreviations, but it's annoying

I do think it is fun to read the posts where the initials were supposed to mean something else. Quite funny!:D

I agree, Dessa--cracks me up!! It sure wakes you up when you read something way off the wall! :)

The reason for this is search engines--which do not know what the abbreviations are. Too many people are abbreviating these terms and people who are searching for specifi information on places like Google that could be helped by information found here on this board may not be able to find it if celiac disease and gluten-free do not appear in posts. No mystery or plot--yes, there are drawbacks which I have considered, but the overall value of making this site get properly indexed by search enginges outweighs those concerns, at least in my opinion.

Take care,

Scott

As a person who knew very little about the internet, and even less about Celiac when I literally stumbled onto the board while trying to do a Google search, I think it's a good thing :D

I do not have celiac disease however for 20 years-plus I have been sensitive to gluten. A slice of bread will give me diarrhea in less than an hour. This started with me around the time I believe GMO wheat was beginning to appear in products on the market. Last week i went into the hospital to get antibiotic IV for three days. While there I was constipated so I figured eating gluten would fix that. I had gluten at every meal and it had no affect on me. I was still constipated until I got home and hen started having normal bowel movements even though I continued eating gluten products and I have never felt better! Not even a hint of diarrhea. I’ve eaten some gluten in bread, cream of wheat...

It sounds like your gastroenterologist is becoming increasingly confident that celiac disease is the likely diagnosis based on both your older and newer lab results. Her suggestion to call each Monday for possible cancellations is actually a great strategy—especially given how long the wait is until your August 29th appointment. It’s also a good sign that she’s advocating for you to be seen sooner, which shows she’s taking your case seriously. The fact that some labs might not have been drawn yet due to overlap with your functional health doctor’s upcoming testing adds a layer of confusion, but that’s unfortunately common when multiple providers are involved. Hopefully, the GI’s...

Thanks for sharing that film, @trents.  I am not sure how I missed that film as I see it is a few years old, but it is very good.  I think you should be fine if you take your own packed lunch and eat it from your own lunchbox etc.  Might be worth doing a lunchtime recce to see how cramped the room is before making a decision - for all you know, there may be other people  there who don't eat gluten?

The GI doc messaged me this afternoon that she believes that the new blood work added to the old is definitely  looking like a celiac diagnosis is in my future.  She wants to me to call into scheduling each Monday to see if I can get my August 29th appointment moved up due to cancellations.  I have never had a doctor recommend that.  She also said there were additional labs that she requested still out that have not come back yet; so, they may have been missed drawing those since the functional health doctor has a whole slew of labs that I am suppose to be waiting until August 27th to do. I am still waiting to hear on whether or not she will allow me to do pill prep versus the typical...

Well, I've made if from the pre-diagnosis forum to here!  I've been diagnosed with "latent" or "potential" celiac and my doctor has suggested me to go gluten-free before my appointment with him in October (first available, LOL).  My ttg-iga was 152, my EMA was positive, I have the gene, but my biopsy was negative (and he took 12 samples), so it makes sense to go gluten free to see if I improve. I know the basics - I can find lists of things to avoid, I know about hidden dangers, etc. all of that.  Where I'm struggling is just STARTING.  I need to go shopping and stock up on some staples.  My goal is to not try to find gluten-free alternatives, but to focus on naturally gluten-free foods like...
