New to all of this. But open to learning

Hi everyone.

I recently started dating a woman with celiac. I love cooking and baking. So I’m definitely interested in learning how to navigate this.

it’s a process. I’m starting off by cleaning everything I use, again, before I use it. Not using certain utensils that are wood, and harder to get really clean.

I’ll be getting some supplies that I can dedicate to her. And store them separately.

this is really just an intro. Not looking for advice here.  I can search the forums for that.

It’s wonderful that you’re trying to keep her safe from gluten!  Based on posts I’ve read here over the years, not everyone tries to keep friends/family/significant others safe.

Wow, your lady is very lucky to have you! After seeing stories about celiac being the cause of some people’s breakups, it is so nice to see something positive like this. Wishing the two of you all the best.

That blows my mind. But I also have a friend who I told about the cooking situation, and he said he wouldn’t be able to date someone who he’d have to change so much of his style for. Not starting a relationship makes a little more sense than ending one because of it. But neither actually makes sense to me. If you care about someone, you makes those adjustments, as best as you can.  If they care about you, they’ll help, and not judge you when you struggle

I’m trying my best. Definitely poisoned her once (luckily really mildly). Thought I cleaned my cutting board well enough. Since then, I got a mat that I’ll dedicate to her, until I get another actual cutting board. She’s extremely sensitive, so I’m doing everything I can, shy of having a completely dedicated kitchen (ideal someday, since I’d also like a space to bake with flour, too).

GliadinX is such a product and many/some report it really helps. In the interest of disclosure, the company that produces it is one of our sponsors.

Occasionally eating out in restaurants means that there is potential cross contamination in spite of ordering a gluten free dish. What enzyme supplements can the forum recommend that would help with potential cross contamination? Something I could take before I start eating. I used to order Wheat Rescue from Microbiome lab, but it is not available anymore.

Hi  - Anyone have any experience with these? I bought them at Costco thinking they must be gluten-free, but now I see Natural Flavors and Spice in the ingredients. There's no Gluten Free labeling. However the Costco site and two other sites say it's gluten free. Anyone know?

Yes, I doubt you can find a perfectly safe restaurant--perhaps a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, but in general, very few of them exist, and they tend to be in larger cities. Super sensitive celiacs should probably just avoid eating out.
