Anxiety Meds

Hey all,

As some of you know, I've had great success with my anxiety/depression with Effexor. However, I'm gaining weight that I shouldn't be and some people at my work that have taken it have also said they gained so much weight they had to switch meds.

anyway, I'm just looking into it and one lady said Lexapro is similar to Effexor and she lost the weight she had gained on Effexor.

anyone have any experience with weight gain on Effexor or Lexapro?

Anyone used both?

If you could share I'd appreciate it. I guess lexapro and Effexor are both in the same class of SSRI's so I think I want to stay in that category.

Thanks,

Jenn

i've taken both----i don't remember weight gain being a problem with either one. lexapro was better for me than effexor.

Do you feel your depression is related to Celiac disease?

StrongerToday Enthusiast

I started the Lexapro in January and have been loosing weight.

I think everyone reacts differently though...

I take Lexapro and have had no issues with weight gain. My dr prescribed this over other SSRIs b/c it is supposed to be very weight neutral.

Lexapro did not stop me from losing weight. It did help me to sleep better, so I had more energy during the day. I think more energy without eating more translated into weightloss for me.

Thanks, all. I think I will try Lexapro.

To whomever asked, yes my anxiety/depression is related to Celiac. I never suffered from it until going gluten free...weird, huh?

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
