I lived in Japan for a couple fo years while in the Navy. Spent some time in the Phillipines :rolleyes: ; Korea ;) , Oz :D to name a few. I have travelled to Ireland, England and various islands in the Caribbien. if down in Oz, try to get over to New Zealand and/or New Caledonia. I really like New Cal beautiful place, not too many tourists mainly Aussies, Japanese and a few French. Lots of diving and a good casino.

Thanks for the tip. I just looked up New Caledonia and it sounds like a beautiful place. I spent a week in New Zealand once but that was not long enough. I think I need to go there too :D

Funny you say that, there was an article I was reading that says that hormons play a huge part in alcohol tolerance, that's why most women can't drink as much as men... I'll have to try to find that article.

Hmm tell you doc I have a degree in comptuer scince so that makes me qualified to give out medical adivce! (Why not everyone else thinks they can give out computer adivce... :lol: )

BTW Vincent you'll have to share your recipe for making Kalhua (sp?) in case I ever get better enough to drink it. I LOVE that stuff....white russians were one of my favorite drinks. I like the sweet stuff....either that or beer. You wont see me drinking any of the hard stuff...Tequila makes me want to puke. Could be that I over did it once as a teen though. Never liked it since. <_<

Yep--I agree that I'd do almost anything to figure this all out. I have to have another ultrasound in 5-6 months, and I plan on talking seriuosly about having my cysts and fibroid removed. Just scared she'll end up wanting me to have a hysterectomy.

Don't they want you to go on hormones after a hysterectomy? I wouldn't want that either.

Andrea, That is exactly what I don't want. I want to keep all my own "parts"--just the stuff that's not supposed to be there taken off. Does that make sense?

Makes perfectly good sense to me. As much as I hate the monthly cycle I would like to keep all my parts too...unless they turn cancerous on me or something.

I had an enlarged thyroid before my last pregnancy along with elevated AST and ALT. Had all sorts of bloodwork done..they chalked it up to fatty liver since they couldn't figure anything else out. Levels were normal again last year (Sept). Wouldn't surprise me if it was soy or gluten that increased them. Maybe the pregnancy just threw everything off because I was consuming tons of soy and/or gluten products during my pregnancy. The only vegan one I had, he also scored lowest on the apgar compared to the other two. My daughter was a lacto-ovo preg and scored 9, my oldest son was an ovo preg (I ate about 8 eggs per week) and he scored 10, my youngest son as I said was a vegan preg and he scored 8 at five minutes. Anyone want to try and figure that out. I could always have another one with a meat eating diet and see what the apgar is. :P Much as I love babies, I'm getting to old, my parents would kill me (almost did with my third :P ) and the doctors wouldn't be too happy. I've already had 3 c-sections. My daughter was breech, partial separation of the placenta and undergoing stress with prelabor so I had no choice with her and didn't want to take the chance with a VBAC. They considered me high risk as it was because of my age I think. Don't know why...I think that is old school thought. Unless it was because it was going to be my 3rd section. No problems for me whatsoever with any of the surgeries and recoveries aside from overdoing it with my oldest son.

Be a girl scout leader/somehow involved in a boy scout pack/lead for campfire/YMCA...

Personally, I have 12 little girls, all 9-10 years old :blink:

Just me, but my girl scout leader was at my graduation and was invited to my wedding. Instant kids without all the trouble of childbirth and diaper changing :P

      @Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed.       Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

      Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

      I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
