Picard, if you are still on, what is this heinous test? Do you drink some concoction? Geez, it sounds like a breathilizer test. I hope it works out ok and you are not too sick from it.

I am not really sure, I think it is some sort of breathilizer test. I do need to drink some concoction and be on some sort of really tight diet. Oh well. Still better off knowing what is going on.

The naked thing was Karen's idea... I think that's why she's in a straight jacket right now....

are we all getting naked? I have to warn you I really am skinny

Good luck with the test Picard :)

Hi MiaMia! I was hoping there would be a love connection with you and, was it Lynne's son?

Lisa Mentor
Oh, I just couldn't let this one get by!

No, dear city boy, our geese are very well-mannered. But I have seen a duck going around yelling AFFLAC on tv. :P:P:P

Cissie, signing off.

Way too premature post, but with my new sweet goose picture and my new name. Perhaps, along with my duties as Senator (which is sit on my butt all day, no bribes today) Should I not be on the goose patrol.

AFLAC :D:D:D I love that darn goose.

I agree but with my family hx, if this is the root cause -- I want to intervene now.

Julie -- if you move to CT let me know.

Now who mentioned getting naked -- I must warn you I am a Frenchman :P:D

Again I say to you beautiful one who waves from our float... where is your tiara?

Remember it's on loan from Chelse, she's the one with the tiara

No problem :D

It's ok, I have to warn you I'm not!

Ohhh sheeet! Andrea is going to die when she gets back....

Well we can't have that now can we? We'll just have to ask her to join us!

Sorry, I'm posting. I can't help it. This is really bad. I have a job for the next week that basically involves me, in a room by myself, with a big computer, a set of instructions, and...oh no...internet access! Don't worry though, I'm very skilled at hanging out in Rachelville while simultaneously getting work done

Okay I should sign off for a bit before they all start wondering why I'm laughing in here..

Meredith,

They'll learn soon enough that we are all a little off here. :P

Well you can ask, but she is our Mother Hen you know. I think she would rather listen to Iron Maiden

Dave, you have to put Town Hottie and Town Troublemaker in your job description.

And Celia where are your astericks???

Good night !

Good night !

Night Picard!

AndreaB Contributor

Boy oh boy.

I leave to have dinner and you guys go south on me.

May I remind you that Rachelville has rules of decorum and dress. Mr. Dave--you at least need a tank top on while working we can't have all the women falling all over themselves (whether it be from laughter or fainting  ). The rest of you, Mother Hen is back on patrol and expects better behavior. :P

Not on your life.....I'm the conservative one here. :o Probably one of many reasons I got dubbed Mother Hen. I take it to mean I'm very protective though. :P

If I had no other choice I'd take that ear shattering music. :P

Do the geese in Rachelville go around yelling AFFLAC?

-Dave

NO EFFIN' AFLAC GEESE!!!!!

If we have the aflac bird I'm moving out of Rachelville.

Don't ask why, too traumatic. A guy and a lot of vodka. I'll leave it at that.

Besides, the AFLAC bird is a DUCK. Geese honk, they don't quack

(That was a premature post, I'm all caught up now though, as of 8:56pm)

Carla, what a wonderful picture. You are so pretty and love your dress. :)

Good luck Carla eating out at Maggianos, lucky you- yum! I hear they are great about celiacs. Tell us all about it tomorrow.

It was WONDERFUL!! I had a filet, mashed potatoes Gluten-free Casein-free with olive oil and basil, and asparagus. A couple glasses of shiraz. My daughters had the gluten-free blondie with ice cream on it, but it has casein and soy so I had a glass of champagne for dessert!! :P I'm here, so you know I'm not sick! :D

Hey @Butch68, I also have dermatitis herpetiformis but don't suffer from it anymore. I used to drink Guinness too but I drink Cider now when out on social occasions. I assume you are in Ireland or the UK. If it's any good to you ... 9 White Deer based in Cork brew a range of gluten-free products including a gluten-free Stout. I'm not sure if they are certified though. https://www.9whitedeer.ie/ I haven't come across any certified gluten-free stouts this side of the pond.

This is a very common question, and the most important thing to know is that no, Guinness is not considered safe for individuals with coeliac disease. While it's fascinating to hear anecdotes from other coeliacs who can drink it without immediate issues, this is a risky exception rather than the rule. The core issue is that Guinness is brewed from barley, which contains gluten, and the standard brewing process does not remove the gluten protein to a level safe for coeliacs (below 20ppm). For someone like you who experiences dermatitis herpetiformis, the reaction is particularly significant. DH is triggered by gluten ingestion, even without immediate gastrointestinal symptoms. So, while you may not feel an instant stomach upset, drinking a gluten-containing beer like Guinness could very well provoke a flare-up of your skin condition days later. It would be a gamble with a potentially uncomfortable and long-lasting consequence. Fortunately, there are excellent, certified gluten-free stouts available now that can provide a safe and satisfying alternative without the risk.

Interestingly, this thought occurred to me last night. I did find that there are studies investigating whether vitamin D deficiency can actually trigger celiac disease.  Source: National Institutes of Health https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7231074/

Before being diagnosed coeliac I used to love Guinness. Being made from barley it should be something a coeliac shouldn’t drink. But taking to another coeliac and they can drink it with no ill effects and have heard of others who can drink it too.  is this everyone’s experience?  Can I drink it?  I get dermatitis herpetiformis and don’t get instant reactions to gluten so can’t try it to see for myself.
    • trents
NCGS does not cause damage to the small bowel villi so, if indeed you were not skimping on gluten when you had the antibody blood testing done, it is likely you have celiac disease.
