Good googly moogly gosh-I am gone for a few hours and The Dave is half naked (I even did an f5 and didn't SEE it, lol), drive by postings, everyone else asleep  I am on daylight savings time too, but have insomnia quite alot.

Andrea, when do you sleep, girl! I meant to mention before, but my dh's grandmother was named Talitha. I never knew another. I love Biblical names, too.

Hey, The Dave, so, you work with Rachel? What exactly do you do? Is there a Mrs. Village Idiot? Tell us more about yourself. What are your hobbies? Do you by any chance make scrunchies or bracelets? Enquiring minds want to know, lol :P

Haha... Yea we work together. What exactly do I do....not much honestly :D No Mrs. Village Idiot, I'm not quite ready for that yet.... give it a few more years... :D Hobbies.....hmm, I recently bought a house so sometimes I do work around the house....it wasn't in the best shape (still isn't), but it's getting better. I make scrunchies by the hundreds.....j/k

Yea not too exciting.... got 2 puppies on Sunday though! Very cute...10 weeks old, brother/sister, Golden Retrievers! No pictures on the computer yet :(

How about you? Insomniac huh? where abouts are you??

Hey Robbin,

It's great to see you this late.

I usually head off sometime between 10:30 and 11:30 and don't get up until 7:30 or 8:00. Kids don't get up until between 7-8. I'm one of those that like to sleep my 8 hours. Kids names...Talitha, Micah and Seth....all bible names.

Don't I wish. He gets paid by the mile. I'm one the phone with him now. He's about 2 hours away and waiting for another truck to get loaded, then he'll be on his way home. It'll be about midnight before he gets home and then he's out the door around 5 if not earlier.

Crazy.... I couldn't cope with that much.....well.....or lack of sleep!

Speaking of Bible names, I'm one of four boys, David, Elliot, Noah and Sam.

Not really on purpose though.... go figure

Pictures.....I demand pictures. Retrievers are my favorite, either golden or labrador.

I expect those up pronto. :D

Is Sam short for Samuel? Are you the oldest?

I only have one brother 5 years older. Mitch has 1 brother and 3 sisters. He's the 2nd born.

Meredith,

I see you. Hey, what time and day is it down under? It's 9:30 our time (pacific).

Hey Rachel,

You made it back from the dangerous food zone. Are you in one piece?

:) Hi Judy, I see you :) .

I am in the great state of Virginia. Near that "other president's place" ! I have a golden retriever too. Six years old, lazy as heck, BabyRuth. You do home remodeling?! A lot of us on here are Home Depot and Lowes addicts!! We have those in R'ville!! Did you not read the ENTIRE thread?! That is a requirement, btw. (only kidding, lol)

Andrea, married to a truck driver is like being married to a dr. That has to be hard. My dh is gone at 7:30 am and home at 7 pm. Long commute to DC area (50miles one way) so, I don't see much of him either. Weekends are usually busy cramming in as much family time as possible since Ds is of the age that he will not want to be seen with us next year. Almost to that now, lol.

I will be leaving on Thursday early in the morning to go visit OH so I will not be officially missing-just miserable traveling. Will be back Sunday night. I will check in, though as much as possible-I do not want to have to read 100 pages to catch up!!

So, Dave, what are the puppies' names and what color are they? I have a red golden. She looks like Duke the Bush bean dog on the commercials. We call him her boyfriend 'cause she always watches those commercials closely. She is my dog daughter. I also have a cat daughter, Chessie and a cat son, Tom J..

Oh, and I do have two sons, lol can't forget the princes :)

are we all getting naked? I have to warn you I really am skinny

oh good moogly moogly NO we are NOT all getting nekkid!! :o Don't worry little Mia, but will there be wedding bells with Lynne's son in R-ville? Oh, our first wedding!

Canadian Karen Community Regular

I also have a golden, Buddy. Dopiest dogs around. This is our third golden, wouldn't buy any other kind of dog.....

Buddie is the english style golden retriever - very light blonde. Our first and second goldens were the American style goldens (the redder kind). The reason that the english style goldens are lighter is because they were bred with Great Pyrenese waaaaay back and the reason the American style goldens are darker is they were bred with the irish setters waaaaaaay back when. At least that's what I was told......

You have a few acronyms I don't know... dh, and ds.... It sounded like dh was your husband....or maybe..... Designated Husband.....

Kind of like a Designated Hitter or Pinch Hitter?

Puppies names....my roomate named the girl Pumpkin (they are orange/reddish), the boy I am still yet to name...thinking...haven't decided....

That's interesting Karen,

I used to have a lab/retriever mix. He was great. I gave him up to move into town many years ago. He was trained by my ex boyfriend. When we split....I got the dog. He'd done all the basic work with him so he was a really well behaved dog. The only problem was he loved to jump, pity any child that came near him. He was extremely loveable and exciteable. I'll probably never have a dog like that again, if I even get another one. Where we are now, we can't have pets; and besides the kids are too young.

No problem! Colon talk doesn't bug me.....in fact...my colon is pretty great itself!

We got spoiled last week....he was home for dinner 4 out of 5 nights. He's a local delivery driver, so unless they send him down to Southern Oregon he's home every night. Since he's driving maxi now, that probably won't happen. He used to be gone about 1-2 times a month. I drive on the weekends to give him a break. :P

I've been buying my seeds and nuts from Prana Organics for a number of years because the products have been GFCO-certified. I just got a new order delivered of their flax and sunflower seeds, and it turns out that they are no longer GFCO-certified. Instead, it just has a generic "Gluten Free" symbol on the package. I reached out to them to ask what protocols/standards/testing they have in place. The person that wrote back said that they are now certifying their gluten free status in-house, but that she couldn't answer my questions related to standards because the person with that info was on vacation. Not very impressed, especially since it still says on their website that they are GFCO-certified. Buyer beware!

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Cristiana

Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
