Other sources of mold might include a leaky dishwasher (water dripping just a bit under the dishwasher, where it wouldn't be able to evaporate) and under and even inside a washing machine.

Fortunately no dishwasher or washing machine, lol...but the bathroom has enough for all of us.

I havent been on the candida boards the last couple months...unfortunately my favorite board was taken over by some rather "unpleasant" type people. I dunno...maybe too many candida toxins affecting their brains??

I think I may have been part of that same board, lol. Went back there a few weeks ago and the tone was very different.

I still love my Celiac friends the best.
Me too! This is just a very comfortable place. Even admist the strife sometimes, there is always this little corner of the board which is safe and calm.

Are we all going to be on here in like 5 years?!!!

I think I will, lol. No matter whether I feel "healed" or not, I'll probably be around a long time, just to offer support. I've been a part of a fitness forum for about 4 years now I think.

YEAH!! I'll be here....I'm never going to forget all of you and I'll never forget how everyone here got me through this!!

I love you guys.

...

I met such a great bunch of people on this thread that I know I'll never forget any of the people I've shared so much with here. You guys have been the best.

Definitely  I feel the same way. This board has helped me more than anything else. I've gotten the names of doctors and clinics that have helped me when no other doctors have, so yah, this place is a special place for me!

Speaking of , Andrea how are you today?

I came home early from work yesterday, and I'll be staying home today as well. I'm not feeling any worse than yesterday, so that's good, but I'm still really tired. My throat feel weird but not sore as long as I'm taking the Vit C...weird huh!?! I think that part might be power of suggestion, but I'll take it, lol. Also, my legs started itching again yesterday...for about a half hour around 4:00...what's that all about...then it went away...my legs havn't itched in weeks now and they haven't itched since yesterday. Weird.

I'm wondering if the last time I got sick wasn't because I cleaned the bathroom (if you can't tell already, I RARELY clean the sucker, lol  ). I didn't keep a log or anything, but I know I cleaned it around that time. I'll be keeping records from now on to see if there is any connection.

I'm going to call and see if I can get in earlier than 3:00 for my chiro/PT appointment, then I'm just going to lay on the couch and watch DVDs, lol.

%&*^$!!!! I'm on my kids' computer, and it decided to go to a different page and deleted my post!! STUPID COMPUTER!!!

Anyway, I was just saying that the people here not only are supportive, but also understand because we're all in the same boat ... chronic illness.

I learned about my Lyme Disease here, but I would have eventually found out about it. A friend of mine was diagnosed a couple weeks before me ... we both have the same spiritual director, who knows I've been sick for a long time (because I have been on a leave of absence of sorts from the youth work I used to do). Anyway, I saw this priest a couple weeks ago and he asked if I had ever looked into Lyme Disease!!

However, it was through everyone's research here that I really understood Lyme Disease! When my friend got diagnosed she was discouraged and seemed scared. When I got diagnosed, I understood what it was and what it would take to get better. There's a fighting spirit here because all of us REFUSE to be sick!!!

We might be able to get support from our families, but here we all understand each other ... that's the difference. That's what keeps us coming back to a board to "chat" with people we've never actually met!! LOL ;)

I've also come to realize from reading Lymenet that I'm doing wonderfully well considering how long I've had it. I think this is because I have been on an anti-candida diet (or anti-candida maintenance allowing a few more treats) since 1991. 1991 was my last flare, and that's when I had my amalgams out. Both of those are essential to Lyme treatment. So is detoxing ... and I've been aware of eating and taking supplements to help detox for about 10 years.

We're all on very similar paths ...

the irony *might* be that I'm not even a "true" Celiac

That's okay, I'm not either. But gluten makes me sick!!

I'm doing good today so far. I talked to mom for about 1 hour yesterday. She told me that she didn't get to say goodbye to her mother either. Although her mother died of a heart attack, the point she was trying to make is that you don't usually get to say goodbye as in most cases death is quick/unplanned. Anyway I'll probably call his wife sometime in the next week or two and find out about dad's estate. Sound like, from talking to my mom that when he contacted us five years ago for info for his life insurance that he'd had a change of mind about leaving us anything. We also want to see if they are going to write an obit or not as we'd like a copy.

Mom says I'll have many days where I feel like crying and miss him, but many more that I'll be ok.

We got our van back. Was twice as much as I was hoping. We had to list our LH DVD's to help make up for some of the difference. It is nice to have a slider working again though.

Now I've got to go buy a black ink to see if our printer is going out or if it was just bad cartridges. Our printer is almost 12 years old.

AndreaB Contributor

Donna,

I'll be interested in what your log shows. Sounds suspicious to me.

Hope you can get your appointment changed to earlier. :)

OMGosh!!! I've never heard of such a thing!!! Twelve years old!

Don't worry too much if it's bad, anymore the ink cartridges are almost as expensive as a new printer.

you don't usually get to say goodbye as in most cases death is quick/unplanned.

This is why it's SO important to treat each moment with each loved one in your life like it might be the last ... because sometime it will be.

You DID get to say goodbye to your dad! Last Thanksgiving ... I'm sure HE knew it was goodbye even if you weren't sure. Don't have regrets about any of your actions ... you did the right thing and your dad went knowing you love him. That's what's important.

Donna I totally agree. :)

Everytime I try to venture out into other threads I find I'm always being brought down by strife and nasty negativity. :(

Today....out of nowhere I am attacked for being against scientificness!!

Apparantly this conclusion about me came from the Rachelville sub-title "no scientificness here".

So yeah....I guess that somehow implies that the thread is for bashing scientificness???

Yes...I am Rachel...and I HATE science!! :lol::lol::lol:

OMG...that is freakin hilarious. I mean....WTF???

Oh yeah.....forgot to the mention the part about how this person doesnt "share my pleasures" because this person is all about helping people....and I, (Rachel who HATES science) am not interested in helping other people.

ROFLMAO....ummmm yeah....its soooo much safer in this little corner of the board. :)

As Susan would say...."Hold me ....I'm scared."

Happy Valentines Day everyone!!!!

:lol::lol:

Yeah....I think I will be laughing all day long about the fact that I'm labeled a "Science Basher"....I'm a protomer of all things against scientificness. Sometimes you just gotta laugh.... :P

Aint that the truth. :lol::lol:

I could never comprehend why ink is so darn expensive....I mean its INK??? Am I missing something??

With all the printing of photos I do when scrapbooking....I would sometimes go through a color cartridge in one weekend.

I was gonna need another job to pay for my ink!

Oh yeah...I have BioSET tonight. :)

My appts got changed to Wednesadys instead of Tuesdays.

As a scientist I'd like to mention that you are the better scientists I've "met". I'm sorry you weren't nerdly enough in appearance to actually adopt science as a profession, but I'm sure we could let you into the club if you promise to get some big thick glasses and sturdy, sensible shoes.

The black cartridge didn't work. I do have another print head but it does print color. I'd rather sell the print head on ebay and buy another printer.

I'm pretty hard core nerd at work, but for Hallowe'en last year I dressed up as a neo punk girl with pink hair and fishnet stockings and a black spiderweb on my face. It was so unexpectedly out of character that everyone practically peed their pants laughing.

Now I'm back to the hard core nerd who laughs for days at dumb science jokes like: RNA - the OTHER nucleic acid.

CarlaB Enthusiast

There was a guy at the gym I worked out in in Indiana who wore a t-shirt that said, "There are only 10 types of people in the world -- those who understand binary, and those who don't." I always thought it was hysterical. Yeah, I was a math nerd who took calculus for my electives in business school.

Having just relocated to CA, thus I'm out of my food element, I'd have to say this is a wonderful BB, wtih lots of good people and information.

As for getting better - it takes time. I've been gluten-free for 7 years now, stalled on health issues for about 4 years, around a gluten-free family for over 12 years, and I'm still trying to learn how to operate this new body of mine.

I will say that progress is unique to all of us, but for me my most progressive moments come from alternative sources - not the medical community, but others who are going through similar things in their lives, reading a whole bunch and alternative medical practitioners. This thread has been most informative.

I've had a mercury suspicion for a while, but haven't chased it down. Mold - wow is my nose sensitive anymore, and living in an old structure - ok basically a "college" type apartment here in Tahoe has all sorts of icky smells - heck I can smell mold in buildings just walking by them. And they let the Fed Ex and UPS guys smoke in their trucks around here - ick on my gluten-free food orders. I've also noted that I can't tolerate many chemicals that ordinarily live in my shop - when I had one.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Welcome, Bob!

We have been here for pages and pages hammering out why we didn't get better "just" going gluten-free. I agree with you on alternative meds ... researching on your own is best, too. That way you "hire" the doctor to help, but don't rely on him for your total health.

I DID have my amalgams out over 15 years ago. I'm so happy I did! I can smell some molds just like you mention.

Even though I prefer alternative medicine, I happen to be on a boatload of prescriptions right now! :P My Lyme doc is an alternative doc and even has acupuncture, supplements, etc. available in his office. He says that IF Lyme could be treated with alternative medicine, he would treat it that way (my doc's opinion). He's working on building my immune system, though, at the same time I'm on the meds.

I hope you get to the bottom of your health challenges. I assume you've looked into other food intolerances? Dairy? Eggs? Grains?

Stick around here, we have some fun and learn a lot.

I agree! For a long time after my dad died I went around telling everyone I loved them, but you know, time kind of snuck up on me...I think it's time to remind everyone again. That's one reason why every so often I tell you all how much you all have helped me!

Today....out of nowhere I am attacked for being against scientificness!!

Hi Bob, welcome!!! Yes, it was because of the discussions we've had here that I even thought about the mercury issue. I sort of knew about the mold thing, but just was ignoring it for a long time. Golly, did you read the whole thread...if so I commend you, lol! Even reading part of it would be quite an accomplishment.

LMAO!!

:lol::lol:

Damn....I wasnt really aware of my nerdliness until quite recently...I think it was lurking within??

Anyways.....call me a late bloomer. :D

Apparantly, I do need the glasses and super sturdy shoes  ....without them I seem to be mistaken for a mischief maker...gathering everyone who wants to rebel against science into my own private "science bashers club". :P

I need a makeover.....or a makeunder....or something... :lol::lol:

Does this mean I have to give up clothes shopping?? :o

P.S.

Are you really a scientist??? That is VERY cool. :)

Actually....before I became allergic to the world....I did have some interest in science.....although it was a completely different type of fascinating scientificness....and it didnt involve me being sick (which was good). :D

I was TOTALLY and COMPLETELY fascinated by crime solving. Used to watch Court TV non-stop...Forensic Files,...those types of shows. I didnt just "watch" though....I was always trying to solve the mystery....trying to put all the pieces together. <_<

In my mind I was there....solving the mystery and bringing down the bad guys! B)

I guess this is "kind of" the same. I'm still solving a mystery....piece by piece.....ultimately trying to take the bad guys down. ;)

Its just alot harder to focus now.....stupid toxins making my brain all fuzzy and stuff.

Good thing I never became a detective huh??

Yeah...I think maybe he needs to "de-stress" a little??

Laughter is good medicine...I hope it will help. :D

Although after reading some posts on a more recent thread....I'm thinking he might need another dose of the funny pages.

I dunno....this is the second time I've been attacked by the same poster in a weeks time.

I think maybe it all stems from the fact that I have an offensive science-hating thread which pollutes the board with its unsubstantiated fantasies and beliefs???

I think this could be the reason behind the attacks.....

(see....I'm going into detective mode again ;) )

ROFLMAO

"Rachelville....a place to express disdain for fact and truth". The anti-science thread.:lol:

Yeah....maybe I've had too much ice-cream today but I'm still finding this hilarious. :D

Oh...I went back on ice cream.

Mainly due to the fact that I was experiencing excrutiating head pain from all the "healthy" foods.

I actually found another person who seems to go through the same issues with the produce dept. feeling somewhat like a minefield. The culprit is FUNGUS.

So yeah....I think I'll stick to my ice cream...which is probably totally "dead" food....no chance for fungi survival. B)

It suits my needs for now....so I guess I gotta eat it. :P

Hi Bob :)

Welcome to the board....and also to Ca!!

I whole heartedly agree with your post. The medical community offered me nothing....instead of making steps forward I was actually taking big steps in the wrong direction. Having access to the internet and to alternative sources has been a "life-saver" for me.

Almost immediately after stepping into the world of alternative and integrative medicine I felt a huge weight lifted off of me. I am now filled with excitement for whats ahead....knowing that each step I make is going to bring me closer to reclaiming my health. Instead of the nightmare this started out as....it has now become a wonderful and enlightening journey. :)

I look forward to what each day will bring.

I'm glad you have found this thread to be a helpful resource. :)

Thanks much Scott.  Well said, and heeded.   I don't have Celiac, which is fortunate.
    • Scott Adams
Do you have the results of your endoscopy? Did you do a celiac disease blood panel before that?  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:
    • Scott Adams
It is odd that your Tissue Transglutaminase (TTG) IgA level has bounced from the "inconclusive" range (7.9, 9.8) down to a negative level (5.3), only to climb back up near the positive threshold. This inconsistency, coupled with your ongoing symptoms of malabsorption and specific nutrient deficiencies, is a strong clinical indicator that warrants a more thorough investigation than a simple "satisfactory" sign-off. A negative blood test does not definitively rule out celiac disease, especially with such variable numbers and a classic symptomatic picture. You are absolutely right to seek a second opinion and push for a referral to a gastroenterologist. A biopsy remains the gold standard for a reason, and advocating for one is the most direct path to getting the answers you need to finally address the root cause of your suffering. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

There is a distinction between gluten itself and the other chemicals and processing methods involved in modern food production. Your experience in Italy and Greece, contrasted with your reactions in the U.S., provides powerful anecdotal evidence that the problem, for some people, may not be the wheat, but the additives like potassium bromate and the industrial processing it undergoes here. The point about bromines displacing iodine and disrupting thyroid function is a significant one, explaining a potential biological mechanism for why such additives could cause systemic health issues that mimic gluten sensitivity. It's both alarming and insightful to consider that the very "watchdog" agencies meant to protect us are allowing practices banned in many other developed countries. Seeking out European flour and your caution about the high-carb, potentially diabeticgenic nature of many gluten-free products are excellent practical takeaways from your research, but I just want to mention--if you have celiac disease you need to avoid all wheat, including all wheat and gluten in Europe.
    • Rejoicephd
@Scott Adams That's actually exactly what I ended up asking for— vodka tonic with Titos.  I saw on their website that Tito's is certified gluten-free (maybe many of the clear vodkas are, I don't know, I just happened to look up Tito's in advance). I should have actually specified the 'splash' though, because I think with the amount of tonic she put in there, it did still end up fairly sweet.  Anyway, I think I've almost got this drink order down!
