Hey everyone. How is it going?

Has anyone ever heard of Cavitations before?

I have been reading about them,,, because I have been having a presistant sour/bitter taste in my mouth where I had a root canal and crown placed for several months now. There is no pain yet, but I have jaw pressure.

here is some info I read about it, that makes me want to go get checked out. I dont know if I have any but I think I'm going to get an exam, by Dr. Shankland, lucky for me he lives in Columbus, OH where I live. He wrote this:

Systemic Problems Associated With NICO Lesions

The results of recent research of Dr. Boyd Haley (Chairman, Department of Chemistry, University of Kentucky) show that ALL cavitation tissue samples he has tested contain toxins, which significantly inhibit one or more of the five basic body enzyme systems necessary in the production of energy. These toxins, which are most likely metabolic waste products of anaerobic bacteria (bacteria which don't live in oxygen), may produce significant systemic effects as well as play an important role in localized disease processes which negatively affect the blood supply in the jawbone. There are indications that when these toxins combine with certain chemicals or heavy metals (for example, mercury), much more potent toxins may form.

The results of research in Germany indicate the jawbone may be a holding tank for chemicals and heavy metals, especially at the wisdom tooth sites. Clinical experience indicates it is sometimes difficult for some patients to successfully detoxify mercury from the body until both the bone cavitations AND mercury fillings are removed.

Donna- thank you so much for all the links! Those were VERY interesting to read. Now you, carla and rachel (and potentially andrea) have mercury problems because of your fillings?

I had my fillings out 16 years ago and did a chelation therapy. It's possible I didn't get it all out. Or maybe it's just from fish, pollution, environmental toxins, etc.

Lately I've been struggling with the idea of sending her to school, but they'd eat her alive. I'll deal with whatever I have to, just going through a rough time right now. If we have to do school all year round we will. I've already stretched 1st grade to 1 1/2 years. We have next week off so that will give both of us a break. I just need to let her work at her pace and deal with it. It's hard when I'm thinking we need more structured times. She goes quickly when I leave her alone and let her take whatever breaks she needs to give her hand a break. School takes all day that way but she does get her work done.

Sorry you're down.

Actually, she'd do fine in school ... it would be harder on you than on her! ;) My kids adjusted very easily. I had to sit with my kids the whole time they did their school work. I spent a lot of time on the computer to keep myself busy while I watched them work.

Could you be trying to accomplish too much? Some programs are much, much more rigorous than they need to be.

Christine - I have heard about cavitations mostly from reading the mercury boards, and I think we've briefly discussed them here (oh about a 100 pages or so ago, lol)...unfortunately not much of what I read stayed with me...I know they're bad or at least CAN be bad. :( I have had two root canals done...the first one in 1996 and the second one this last October...they're the prime suspects in my case, but so far I haven't noticed anything wrong. The metallic taste I had in my mouth seemed to go away when I had my amalgams out.

Quick update on my latest Bioset files. I saw Dr. F yesterday and dairy is still a loser for me :( . He checked all his Bioset vials, and thought maybe I could have goat cheese once in a while. It's weird, because he thought this was the one food I would have a deep allergy to. He cleared it for me previously, and that's when I started eating kefir made from milk everyday. Eventually, I developed a sensitivity to it again after a couple of months. He also cleared me for gluten, but I've been too afraid to eat it. I'm afraid that I would just sensitize to it again after eating it for a while. I guess I have to be thankful that I can eat some soy, and nuts again. I also eat corn occassionally. The gluten and the dairy are still out.

We are going to give the dairy clearings a rest for now. I was really hoping to eat dairy again, but it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to :( . That means no chocolate either as most of it has dairy :(:( .

Oh Claire! I'm with you with the dairy. I bought a small container of plain goat milk yogurt on Saturday...it's still in my refrigerator...I'm afraid, lol. I think I miss that the most...I just love yogurt in the morning for breakfast.

There is some dairy free chocolate, but it's not easy to find. :(

Has anyone ever heard of Cavitations before?

Heard of them.....they are very bad. Hoping I don't have any problems because I really don't have the money to pursue it. Although, the dentist I'll be seeing will probably tell me what needs to be done and what is the priority.

Could you be trying to accomplish too much? Some programs are much, much more rigorous than they need to be.

This program is advanced which is why I spread it out so much.

She got her work done all on her own. If I go through my part with her earlier in the day then she can work at whatever pace she wants to after that. I think I will start working it that way.

I went out and got some work done outside. I feel a little better now that I've got some sun. :D

Dear Carla,

I should probably try that solution. I am allergic to dyes, and Gatorade definitely has them. It is so hard to avoid dyes. They are in everything! It can get really frustrating. Thanks for the info.

Dear Claire,

I have had ultrasounds before. I had cysts previously on my ovaries. The Mayan massage sounds good! I would rather take the time to do it than end up with more problems! Where do you get castor oil packs? Do you make them yourself?

As far as the chocolate goes, The Chocolate Emporium has gluten-free, casein-free goodies. They also have soy-free chocolate chips. It is good stuff! I got their cake mixes, and they are perfect!

You should give them a go! Go to www.choclat.com for the treats!

Dear Christine,

I have heard some scary stuff about cavitations as well. I am scared, because I need to get my wisdom teeth out. They are causing trouble. I am not in a good situation with these things. They are causing migraines.

Sincerely,

Everything I do is pretty inconvenient nowadays....take away my microwave and you may as well shoot me.

I think if you investigated microwaves you might be thinking about them the way you are now thinking about your pots and pans. :P:lol:

Sorry, I'm just having a down time right now too. :(

Sending hugs, I hope you are feeling better now. :)

Dear Rinne,

Thanks for the salt info. I needed that. I wondered if there was anything more affordable. It is so difficult to afford stuff. Unless we win the lotto soon, or business really picks up for me, nothing much is going to get going.

Sincerely,

Jin

Salt/C is a pretty cheap treatment for Lyme and I know it made a big difference in my energy levels, it got me up and moving last summer. Have you checked out the Lyme Strategies site?

It's gotten better but she's the same way with clothes. Very sensitive to the way they feel on her body. It Is a symptom of ADHD

 I have this, I can't stand the way clothes feel against my body, if I could wear mumus all the time I would, as it is I often spend a good part of the day in my nightgown topped off with a variety of sweaters. My latest favourite is a pink peach scoop neck, three quarter length sleeves, and very sparkly large rhinestone buttons. I consider myself glamourously gluten free.

Wow--I just took the test in the link that Mango put up. I scored 25--anything over 14 means sensitive.

Me too.

How 'bout if I don't clean the house. Don't do much of that anyway. When it's nice I prefer to tackle the weed hill. The weed hill covers an semi above ground septic I think. The tanks are under ground but something is above ground. It's just one mass of weeds on three hills......horsetail or snake grass....whatever you want to call it.

That stuff is HEINOUS!!!! That doesn't include the current septic that is covered in weeds as well. At least that is level ground and no horsetail. The mounds keep me busy all summer.

I rarely post outside this thread anymore and this is exactly why. :(

What I'm really bummed about is the pots and pans issue. I was reading about teflon...

In two to five minutes on a conventional stovetop, cookware coated with Teflon and other non-stick surfaces can exceed temperatures at which the coating breaks apart and emits toxic particles and gases linked to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of pet bird deaths and an unknown number of human illnesses each year, according to tests commissioned by Environmental Working Group (EWG).

"In retrospect, this may seem like one of the biggest, if not the biggest, mistakes the chemical industry has ever made," said Jane Houlihan, vice president for research at the Environmental Working Group, an activist organization.

In new tests conducted by a university food safety professor, a generic non-stick frying pan preheated on a conventional, electric stovetop burner reached 736

Stupid Teflon.

I've just started venturing out again after totally avoiding it for the last 3-5 months.

You always make valid, though provoking posts and I think most people see it that way.

As far as the teflon..... :o:o I knew it was bad but didn't realize it got so hot. I was told to never cook with it over a medium heat.

It probably hasn't helped but I don't know how much worse it would have made things. The thing is that you've learned about it and are doing something about it now. We can't live with "I wish I'd known sooner". I tell myself that frequently but it doesn't do anything but bring us down. We've all been learning a lot this last year (or longer) about our health and you can only be better for it.

Hope you have a good night's sleep and we'll see you tomorrow. :)

I wish there was some way we on th eoh my god thread could pool together and send you to some exotic island for a rest!! you deserve it.

Rachel-

I am lucky in a way when I still lived at home when I was younger we had birds and my mom did a lot of research on pans so I knew all that info and only use the safe ones. But it is pretty scary the stuff about non stick pans and so on. I know my sister still uses them and me and mom always try to get her to switch- shes a stubborn lady though.

I don't know what happened yesturday that was bad but I hope you are feeeling better now!!

Jin, my doctor told me that if you are hyperthyroid, you don't want to be giving someone more thyroid hormones! But, if you are hypothyroid, Armour Thyroid is pretty good and better than the synthetic stuff.

Ultrasounds aren't the most fun procedure in the world, but I've had worse procedures! If you PM me your address, I can send you some information on how to do Mayan abdominal massage. They will help with getting more blood flow to your reproductive organs and can help keep your uterus and ovaries healthy. It doesn't cost anything! You can also do castor oil packs yourself, and you only have to pay for the castor oil. It's very healing for the abdomen, just time consuming.

Recipes please! I'm a fan of cranial-sacral too.

Whats the MAyan abdominal massage?

CarlaB Enthusiast

Rachel, be excited that you found out about the pots and pans! This may open up new food possibilities for you! :)

I've been reading about the Questran my doc has me taking. It's interesting stuff. It binds to the bile in the colon and prevents the toxins from being reabsorbed by the liver. This way you eliminate the toxins instead of just constantly reabsorbing them. I Googled "questran toxins" and found information on this.

It used to be used primarily for lowering cholesterol.

I've stayed away from that other thread. I bring up other illnesses, Lyme included, when I think appropriate. I do NOT bring it up all the time ... only when someone's not improving completely on the gluten-free diet and has what I would call "classic Lyme" symptoms. I've noticed that other non-Lymies sometimes bring up Lyme, too. I think in some cases we'd be doing a person a disservice if we didn't bring it up.

I've had too much brain fog to participate in that particular discussion though. Adam, Chloe and I all came home from NY with a bad head cold. At least I know my immune system is working ... I got sick! At first I thought it might be some kind of allergies because the airplane had a hard time with the pressure. My ears were popping more than usual and my water bottle and Mepron bottle had all the air sucked out, worse than normal. I thought maybe there was mold on the plane or something, but now I'm thinking it's more like a virus.

Claire can you eat dairy free chocolate made in a factory that also makes milk chocolate? Anyone else? I feel very stupid about this but are there people who react to even traces of dairy as we do to traces of gluten?

I think I can eat traces of it without reacting...not sure what it's doing to my insides though...but I actually have to eat a decent quantity to get reactions. However, small amounts of it will build up...for instance, if I have a little piece of chocolate everyday...I seem to start getting symptoms by the end of the week. That's regular milk chocolate. If I eat large quantities, well, I react pretty quickly...within a day or two.

Donna - - - I am telling you, take DRUGS for sleep!:lol: I say, Lunesta or Ambien - - safe and gentle and non-addicting and just for a short time (much harsher drugs needed for yours truly).

Drugs it is. :P I've slept slightly better in the last two nights, but not nearly well enough to catch up. I'll start asking my doctors what they think.

How 'bout if I don't clean the house. Don't do much of that anyway.

Ha, Saturday I went shopping at Target...bought some cleaning stuff and a couple of tee-shirts. They put the cleaning stuff in a separate bag, which I didn't realize. I just walked off with the one with my tee-shirts in it. Fortunately I had to wait for my mom and aunt, so I was waiting by the door--there is always a security guard there. He had been chatting with me when the lady who rang me up came over with the second bag. So he says..."good thing you got it before you got all the way home" and I said "oh, it's only cleaning supplies, I wouldn't have missed that for months"

I can handle critisism....it was just kind of not making sense to me...thats all. I'm moved on now...said what I needed to say.

I didn't understand the critisim in the first place. I almost went back to reread what you had posted because I didn't think you meant at all what she said from what I remembered. I almost posted that, but then I thought it would just prolong it.

I think that the person who jumped on you has really healed on the gluten-free diet. She has completely healed of many of the symptoms that many of us also have, but in our case, they've not gone away. I think she's very frustrated when someone suggests she's a 'lesser celiac' because her celiac tests came out negative. I know you didn't imply she was a 'lesser celiac' and neither have I, but I think she sometimes take it that way when we mention that our intolerance is likely from another disease/toxicity.

She has gotten better. There are people who truly have a gluten intolerance and who test negative for celiac and get completely better gluten-free. I wish I fell into that category. I tried to force myself into that category for a long time.

I don't think celiac is a lesser disease than Lyme, but I do think celiac is much easier to treat and there's not the danger of relapse. I know that in the beginning celiacs and Lymies present many of the same symptoms and at the same level of illness.

I think it's good for you, Rachel, to post outside this thread, don't let one person stop you. She is very valuable to this forum because she has gotten better on the gluten-free diet and tested negative for celiac. You and I are valuable because the gluten-free diet helps us, but our intolerance is likely from something else. Both types of people add to the forum, both types show that not all gluten intolerant people test positive for celiac disease and not all gluten intolerant people get completely better on the gluten-free diet.

Many people come here because their symptoms are similar to celiac symptoms. There are other diseases, like Lyme, that have similar symptoms. I think it's entirely appropriate in some circumstances to bring up these other diseases because in some cases, people are wanting to look for all their options, yet because it's a celiac forum, I'll mention Lyme, but when additional questions come up about it, I try to keep that talk in PM's.

I also find it interesting that I read about gluten intolerance DAILY on the Lymenet forum. I think that shows how gluten intolerance can be a result of Lyme Disease and why we get so many people here who have Lyme. This is ONE type of gluten intolerant person ... the other person is a different type of gluten intolerant person. We all belong here, in my opinion (of course, the final determination is with the admin).

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
