Candida is a symptom. It means that things are "off" in your body. Your body is no longer in balance and the yeast is no longer in check...as it would be in a healthy body.

.........

. . .. Yeast binds with mercury so when there are high levels of yeast there are usually high levels of mercury and vice versa.

After considering the risks involved w/ doing so, I've again decided to present an opposing viewpoint in this, an open forum.

While I have no reason to dispute that high levels of mercury lead to high levels of yeast - and in fact, like the theory whereby the body allows yeast to propagate & surround the merc, thus protecting the body from it - I still find it very difficult to believe that every person who ever had a candida problem also has/had a mercury problem.

I had some pretty extreme candida symptoms, and still have some light ones, but I doubt I could've had so many fantastic days/wks/months since June if I have high levels of mercury.

There.

Just another viewpoint.

What is chacoral for.

And can some one tell me how to quote from different people posts, i just know how to qiote from one post.

Charcoal is a binder...it binds with things in your system and then gets excreted. It will bind with good things too, so generally I hear it is best to take it away from other supplements and things.

To do multiple quotes, at the bottom of each post are two buttons "reply" and "+quote". If you are reading a post you want to quote, but want to do more than one at a time, hit the -quote button. Nothing happens, except that that button turns red. When you've finished reading and now want to reply, hit the MAIN reply button at the very bottom of the thread. A new window should open up with all the quoted posts. I delete out what I don't want to reply to usually, but you don't have to...just make sure you leave the quote tags.

I'm sorry I'm not making that easier to understand, but I'm hungry and dinner is calling, lol.

Reading right along......

Nyxie, I hope tomorrow goes well. Sounds like you've got some good answers and a plan.

Donna, I think you explained the quotes pretty well.

I'm tired.....tried moving some couches around a too narrow corner and I'm wiped out. We need to get rid of one that Micah decided to cut the fabric on........and we are trying to figure out a temp. room for T out in the main room and move S to her room. She says she'd feel better closer to our room even though it's still on the other end of the house.

I guess i need to check the gel i put in the kids hair, i know i mostly remember to wash my hands after.

Your kids and your husband should be using gluten-free body products. IMO it's more important to your health than them eating gluten-free. You touch them, so you get their products on your hands.

I was just thinking about this the other day. i kissed my husbands shoulder and after i did that i was thinking could i get glutened from this, im not sure if his soap is gluten free i have never checked. I do know that only the girls and i use the bathtub downstairs and they use the same products as I do. The boys say they cant use dove soap cause its a girls soap, so i tell them they cant use my bathroom lol.

But i bet this could be one reason my numbers are still high, since i do touch them and kiss them on their checks. Im going to go check on their soap and gel right now.

andrea,

he is making tacos, well taco crunch, i like mine with chips broken up and then all the good stuff on top lol

Tom,

I agree that I don't think everyone who has candida has metal issues. I don't know if I do, but I know I was on "the pill" for quite a while and I think that's when I started having problems especially since I didn't take anything to counteract it. Also, people on abx can run into problems as we all know.

Nyxie,

I agree you need to see how your LLMD is to you...I also agree with Sherry...does he listen to you? That's HUGE!!!!!! Mine is really great, and really cares a lot about what I had to say...so did his entire office staff. They really don't think I'm crazy.

Andrea,

That sounds exhausting! I hope you get some rest! :)

Paula,

Could your entire house go gluten free or would that be too hard to do?

confused Community Regular

kassandra,

it is becoming gluten free after the first of the yr.

Yes Tom, I think a lot of these issues are related but not necessarily or in the same way in each person.

Just like in the main forum we see symptoms posted about and different people sharing how one approach or another worked for them. It is amazing to read the variety of approaches and what works.

Nyxie63 Apprentice
Nyxie I understand your concerns <_<

Sorry about not getting the support you need, I hope things turn around in that daprtment soon because it is crucial to have.

Thank you. :) Hubby thinks I'm obsessing and is afraid its going to make me nuts-er. Yeah, I am obsessing (kinda). I want to find out why I feel like this and the drs I've been seeing haven't been any help. My mom thinks I'm a hypochondriac. My friends have pretty much decided that they don't want to hear it (except for one who works for the local health department, and then I think its professional curiosity). Even one of my friends who has FM poo-poos all this. Never expected that kind of response from her. I'm really feeling alone right now. Thank goodness for you guys.

There are tick born disease clinics that follow ISDA .... I'm not saying he's at one, just that they exist. But if they say he's an LLMD at Lymenet, he probably is. :)

He was on the list that Meg sent, so I'm pretty sure he's an LLMD.

I think beyond being an LLMD, I'd notice his attitude. He may have his opinions but does he listen to you? If things aren't working too well and you make a suggestion from your research, what's his attitude?

You're right. Attitude's a biggie. I tend to go into new drs offices with my hackles up anyway. So used to being jerked around, I expect it. Would love to be pleasantly surprised.

I'd go...I think your plan is a good one. It's great to have someone that's seen him tell you their experiences, but on the other hand, he may have a totally different approach with you than he did with the others. Rachel and I see the same LLMD and he is doing different things for both of us because our situations are different enough. We have the same issues, but not the same bodies if that makes any sense.

Yep. That makes sense.

Nyxie, I hope tomorrow goes well. Sounds like you've got some good answers and a plan.

Thanks! Spending tonight making copies of labwork, finishing up paperwork, and getting everything together. Hopefully, I won't be so overwhelmed tomorrow, I'll actually be able to absorb some of what he's saying.

And OW! Moving furniture isn't fun at any point. Maybe take a nice long soak in the tub?

Nyxie,

Paula,

Good! I hope that helps your health.

Everyone,

Okay, I have a family member who has meningitis and she has been sick FOREVER!!!! I found out on Christmas day that she has had positive tests for Lyme, but "now tests negative!" I heard this and wanted to scream! This poor woman has been in and out of hospitals for pain, depressed, etc.

Obviously she doesn't know about Lyme other than what her duck dr's are telling her. She also told me that her symptoms seem to get really bad when it's around that time of the month...so bad that they are going to put her on the shot to help. <sigh>

My question is, how do I approach her about this? I think she is pretty open, but she is in her 50's and I think at this point, she is really "done" exploring what could be causing her illnesses.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Kassandra, could you print out some information from ILADS? Maybe the FAQ's? Maybe the Dr. B guidelines?

confusedks Enthusiast

Carla,

That's a good idea. I do want to talk to her over the phone though and tell her about some of what I have gone through so she can understand that there is hope for her and she doesn't need to "settle" for a "slow" paced life at her age. She has been so bad at times, she can't walk, etc.

Nyxie63 Apprentice
Who is Meg?

She's one of the gals that sends lists of LLMDs in PMs to folks posting on the "searching for drs" board on LN. Guess she's been around for awhile - her member number is below 100.

After considering the risks involved w/ doing so, I've again decided to present an opposing viewpoint in this, an open forum.

I dont consider your post to be an opposing viewpoint since I've never once stated anywhere that...

"every person who ever had a candida problem also has/had a mercury problem." I think I've always made that clear in our past discussions.

Yeast binds with mercury so when there are high levels of yeast there are usually high levels of mercury and vice versa.

This statement is very true...in the majority of cases where there is a chronic candida situation which is not effectively treated the patient usually does have high levels of heavy metals. Of course thats not the cause in EVERY case....some people have AIDS or other conditions which are compromising the immune system.

I have never said that mercury is the cause for every case of candida....some people have had candida from Celiac and easily recover once they remove gluten and heal. I'm mainly talking about chronic candida infections...which are not easily treatable. If you've been on the diet for a long period of time but cant get off it w/out the candida coming right back...thats a chronic candida situation.

I had some pretty extreme candida symptoms, and still have some light ones, but I doubt I could've had so many fantastic days/wks/months since June if I have high levels of mercury.

Yes...and you are on the diet. I have fantastic days on the diet as well. This is why I suggested that Paula definately do the diet...because she WILL feel better.

Ultimately, I think most of the folks here want to try to regain their health....I know I do. I'm not satisfied with staying on a restricted diet for the rest of my life...I want my body to be as healthy as it can be. This is why I go way beyond treating the symptoms...in my own life...and in my posts. I hope you can understand that.

If some people choose not to address the underlying issues I have no problem with that....why would I?? I'm only sharing what I've learned under the assumption that people posting here are looking for answers.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Oh. :) He must be an LLMD then! But, most of those people with lists don't actually know each doctor, so there is an admitted ignorance in their abilities .... so, he could be good, he might not .... I'd still go see and make your decision afterward. It would have been nice for you to talk to an actual patient of his, but most of us don't have that privilege.

kassandra so do u think she cant walk cause of the lyme and not the mengitsis. I know a guy here that has had menigtsis 2 times and he can no longer walk. Then look how bad my bil got with the disease. Plus i have a friend at home that has menigtsis and she is in really bad shape. Menigtsis does some havoc on ur body that takes yrs to repair, if you can even repair ur body.

thanks for that article carla. I wonder if i should mention that to the people i know. I know the one that has got it 2 times has been all over the world, so it could be from lyme. I wonder if there are stats showing how many get meningtis from lyme, it would be interesting to find out.

Its hard to know. It really depends on how open she is.

I wonder if you could pick out a few stories of people from here or lyme net that resemble her story. Tell her you are concerned about all she has been dealing with, especially since your own struggles have had you on such an up and down roller coaster. Say that you picked out some stories that you thought she might appreciate. Maybe there are some options mentioned there she might consider.

Then if she is responsive, go from there. I'd avoid giving her lots of information, it might be overwhelming and she might be more resistant.

. . .. - I still find it very difficult to believe that every person who ever had a candida problem also has/had a mercury problem.

Oops I DID overstate this. I was trying to hurry it up while the kids washed up for dinner.

So .. .

While high mercury may usually mean high yeast, I don't believe high yeast usually means high mercury.

I don't think she can't walk because of Lyme, I think it's from the meningitis (well, actually I don't really know...) which I believe may be a complication of Lyme. Escpecially since she has tested positive for Lyme before.

Yes, you are right. Indeed, I’ve been feeling anemic since the beginning of this week, and today I felt horrible during a lecture at the university, I was trembling a lot and felt all my body incredibly heavy, so I had to come back home. I’ll do a blood test tomorrow, but I’m just worried about the possibility of it coming back negative. I’ve been eating two cookies in the morning as my only source of gluten over the past two weeks—could that affect the final result?
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Judy M! Yes, he definitely needs to continue eating gluten until the day of the endoscopy. Not sure why the GI doc advised otherwise but it was a bum steer.  Celiac disease has a genetic component but also an "epigenetic" component. Let me explain. There are two main genes that have been identified as providing the "potential" to develop "active" celiac disease. We know them as HLA-DQ 2.5 (aka, HLA-DQ 2) and HLA-DQ8. Without one or both of these genes it is highly unlikely that a person will develop celiac disease at some point in their life. About 40% of the general population carry one or both of these two genes but only about 1% of the population develops active celiac disease. Thus, possessing the genetic potential for celiac disease is far less than deterministic. Most who have the potential never develop the disease. In order for the potential to develop celiac disease to turn into active celiac disease, some triggering stress event or events must "turn on" the latent genes. This triggering stress event can be a viral infection, some other medical event, or even prolonged psychological/emotional trauma. This part of the equation is difficult to quantify but this is the epigenetic dimension of the disease. Epigenetics has to do with the influence that environmental factors and things not coded into the DNA itself have to do in "turning on" susceptible genes. And this is why celiac disease can develop at any stage of life. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition (not a food allergy) that causes inflammation in the lining of the small bowel. The ingestion of gluten causes the body to attack the cells of this lining which, over time, damages and destroys them, impairing the body's ability to absorb nutrients since this is the part of the intestinal track responsible for nutrient absorption and also causing numerous other food sensitivities such as dairy/lactose intolerance. There is another gluten-related disorder known as NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just, "gluten sensitivity") that is not autoimmune in nature and which does not damage the small bowel lining. However, NCGS shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. It is also much more common than celiac disease. There is no test for NCGS so, because they share common symptoms, celiac disease must first be ruled out through formal testing for celiac disease. This is where your husband is right now. It should also be said that some experts believe NCGS can transition into celiac disease. I hope this helps.

My husband has had lactose intolerance for his entire life (he's 68 yo).  So, he's used to gastro issues. But for the past year he's been experiencing bouts of diarrhea that last for hours.  He finally went to his gastroenterologist ... several blood tests ruled out other maladies, but his celiac results are suspect.  He is scheduled for an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2 weeks.  He was told to eat "gluten free" until the tests!!!  I, and he know nothing about this "diet" much less how to navigate his in daily life!! The more I read, the more my head is spinning.  So I guess I have 2 questions.  First, I read on this website that prior to testing, eat gluten so as not to compromise the testing!  Is that true? His primary care doctor told him to eat gluten free prior to testing!  I'm so confused.  Second, I read that celiac disease is genetic or caused by other ways such as surgery.  No family history but Gall bladder removal 7 years ago, maybe?  But how in God's name does something like this crop up and now is so awful he can't go a day without worrying.  He still works in Manhattan and considers himself lucky if he gets there without incident!  Advice from those who know would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've done an excellent job of meticulously tracking the rash's unpredictable behavior, from its symmetrical spread and stubborn scabbing to the potential triggers you've identified, like the asthma medication and dietary changes. It's particularly telling that the rash seems to flare with wheat consumption, even though your initial blood test was negative—as you've noted, being off wheat before a test can sometimes lead to a false negative, and your description of the other symptoms—joint pain, brain fog, stomach issues—is very compelling. The symmetry of the rash is a crucial detail that often points toward an internal cause, such as an autoimmune response or a systemic reaction, rather than just an external irritant like a plant or mites. I hope your doctor tomorrow takes the time to listen carefully to all of this evidence you've gathered and works with you to find some real answers and effective relief. Don't be discouraged if the rash fluctuates; your detailed history is the most valuable tool you have for getting an accurate diagnosis.

In this case the beer is excellent, but for those who are super sensitive it is likely better to go the full gluten-free beer route. Lakefront Brewery (another sponsor!) has good gluten-free beer made without any gluten ingredients.
