My mom just told me that she's really proud of how I handled this past week without having a car. I never got overly stressed, never cried, never freaked out, etc. :)

I used to not be able to handle stresses that were much smaller than that!

So she's proud because I did everything that needed to get done without having a meltdown. :D

I also went to work everyday...my mom dropped me off in the am and my friend picked me up. My friend also took me to my Dr.'s appt., shopping at Whole Foods and other errands I needed to do. :)

I didnt freak out about not being able to come home for lunch. I just ate what I could tolerate in my store.

I never even got upset at the huge expense!

Yup....I think I've come a long way from the earlier days of the thread...when I used to have a meltdown almost every night.

Have you tried organic raw cheese. That may go over better for you.

Hm... I'll look into this. I know a local farm here that we do CSA with carries it. I dreamed about eating pizza again tonight.:P

Kassandra! Caesar salad... parmesan cheese. I think another craving has just been added to my list. :P:ph34r: And whipped cream... fluffy... on pieeeee. Or Cheesecake! Ok, I'm gonna stop now.:lol:

Carla, we used something like that (NET) for some of our allergies. It was expensive, though, and went very slowly, but it helped. Unfortunately, like BioSet, a lot of the allergies came back. :(

confusedks Enthusiast

Carla,

I have read about that before. I tried it for sugar cravings, but it didn't really do anything. <_< That's not to say it doesn't work, but I never experienced any benefits from it.

Just like Rachel said about acupuncture...I never noticed any difference from it, but I know a lot of people do.

good for you.

As always I have a question ,which symptoms do you get from food high in sulfur.

is it the same symptom if you eat egg or eat onion?

I dont miss pizza at all. I just ordered my kids 2 pizza's and the smell is gross. Now give me a chance to eat some st ives nachos, then i would be in heaven. I really want cheese lol.

Im having a better day today. I was at the soccer fields with the kids this morning and had an blast. I decided im not going to stress over my health, i know eventually the answers will come to me. Until then I am going to enjoy the moments that I feel like my old self, and ignore the moments i feel like death.

They received my hair this morning. I will have the results in 7-10 days. Until then I am not going to worry lol.

Yesterday there was an article in the paper about an lady that was on her death bed. SHe decided to see and naturalistic dr and she can now leave her house and feels great. She is doing the ionic foot treatment. I was so happy to read her story. Im always so happy to see others go to alternative treatment. If anyone wants to see the article, pm me, and ill send it out.

Rachel,

Im so happy for you. It also gives me so much hope. I have to have complete control or i freak out. I dont think i could handle not having an car for an week. A year ago, I would freak out if I did not have an car in front of my house, even if i didnt have to go anywhere. Now i can handle if both cars are gone for like 15 minutes lol.

So did you get your car back? Did it cost an arm and an leg?

Hey everyone- I want to reply to all of your specific posts in a bit...but for now I just have a quick question..

I'm increasing my Biaxin dose today (ugh, not looking forward to this...nauseaaa...) so now I have to take 1 dose twice a day, but I'm not sure how to orchestrate all of this. I know it should be away from Nystatin, with "small snack" (though I'm wondering if I should just take it with a meal), and I should walk for about 40 minutes after I take it...but when do I take the second dose? I just took one now and it's 11:45...I'm planning to take another around 3:15..is that too soon? It's so hard to figure out how to fit in all of the antibiotics and supplements...being a lyme patient is a full time job!

Why should it be away from Nystatin? I'm asking because I've never heard that before. Nystatin kills yeast, it's not like probiotics that need to be taken 2 hours away from abx because they will be pointless otherwise. I might be wrong...but I've never heard that before.

Are you eventually going to take the Biaxin 3x/day? If you are...try to space it out like this: 10 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM. I find that works for me. And, those can be meal times if you want them to be.

Yes, being a lyme patient is a FULL time job! LOL! I totally get that!

CarlaB Enthusiast

You can take Nystatin at the same time as the antibiotics.

If the abx are two doses per day, you should take one with breakfast and one with either dinner or a late snack. The idea is to get them as close to 12 hours apart as you can.

I don't know what you mean about walking for 40 minutes after taking it.

I tried acupuncture before I knew what was wrong. I have thought about whether or not it would be useful now that I know what is wrong, but it is not cheap.

The system 'advertised' on that video, however, is free. :) So, it's really no risk to try it. You can download the instructions .... Google the name of the guy who developed it.

My computer died today. Oddly enough, our other Mac died today, too. Very strange. So, I'm on the kids computer. I'm not going to be able to look at those instructions till I have time to go to the Apple store and see what's wrong with my computer.

Elisabet

Thanks Elisabet. :)

Yes...the symptoms are the same if I eat an egg or an onion.

I tend to get alot of pressure in my head as well as other areas of my body. I dont think this is a common symptom but might be directly related to the mercury stored in my head area. I also get headache, blurred vision and cognitive problems (lots of brainfog). I get tired and unmotivated....really irritable. I also get a feeling of being overly toxic and I become more "reactive" and more sensitive.

I also get very bloated and gassy....sometimes the gas can have a sulfury smell....like rotten eggs. Not pleasant at all!

These are some symptoms associated with high sulfur...

emotional instability or volatility

depression, lethargy

motor difficulties, other cognitive issues

overactive immune system

So did you get your car back? Did it cost an arm and an leg?

I got my car back last night. :)

It cost me $2500.

My ex gave me $500 extra from splitting our tax returns. That was a nice surprise on top of what I already got back. :)

My mom gave me $500 for an early b-day gift to help pay for my car.

I got $600 deposdited in my acct. from that rebate we're all getting. :)

That leaves $900....which isnt too bad. I might get a little more from b-day gifts.

Its kind of crazy but every freakin time I'm getting some extra money like this....SOMETHING always happens to take it all away before I even get it all!!

I'm not really complaining because it could have been alot worse...but sheeeesh....it would be nice if for once I could actually keep the bonus money for at least a little while...maybe even use it for something fun. That would be a nice change!

My mom said its like this for *everyone*....everytime we get extra money some major expense always pops up. <_<

Hi Rachel,

Westhroid by RLC labs is EXACTLY like Armour without the corn starch. It is hypoallergenic. But it cannot be taken sublingually. It doesnt dissolve and it tastes nasty.

I avoid corn too. I am not sure it is a problem for me because my symptoms didnt improve after avoiding it for a year.

I am 1 month in Dx Gluten Sensitive, so I am hopeful.

With your genes, I wouldnt eat gluten no matter how I felt. That is just me.

Hi Shay. :)

Hmmm....I have the same genes I've always had and I had no problems consuming gluten (or any other food) for over 30 years. I dont have Celiac genes and I dont appear to have any significant problems eating gluten as far as I can tell right now.

As long as I'm taking enzymes to aid in the digestion of gluten I dont get any symptoms from it. I have much more severe problems from other foods and I do continue to avoid those foods.

I dont think there is anything about my genes which would convince me that I should avoid gluten for life. No scientific evidence to support Dr. Fine's theory that these genes are "gluten sensitivity" genes.

Most of the population carries these genes...or celiac genes.....or a combination. Only 1% develop Celiac Disease. Without having a Celiac gene I think my chances of developing the disease are pretty slim.

I'm someone who believes (very strongly) that non-celiac gluten sensitivity is an aquired sensitivity which is caused by underlying factors. I believe that non-celiac gluten sensitivity is 100% treatable.

Had I not developed underlying issues (listed in my signature) I would still be living symptom free without the worries of food intolerance as well as additional environmental sensitivities.

I hope you have found a corn-free thyroid solution. That was my reason for commenting here. Westhroid is a good choice if you want natural and not synthetic.

I guess in my case when the symptoms are vertigo, migraines and neuropathy which have totally altered my life as you might imagine, I wont want to risk eating gluten again. That is if I get better. When I do, I cannot see myself saying, gee this weekend would be a good one to be in bed vomiting and spinning non-stop or perhaps a crippling migraine, so I am going to "challenge" gluten. This is just me. Only 4 weeks gluten-free so far and I understand the nerves/nervous system takes time to heal.

I'm actually not intolerant to corn. My original post in this thread is over two years old now and I did determine quite awhile ago that corn is not the issue. I did get my thyroid meds compounded for several months but I no longer do that....its been about a year and a half now that I've been back on my uncompounded Armour.

Thanks for the input though. :)

Yes....if I had those symptoms from gluten I would not consider having it in my diet. Fortunately, I do not experience those symptoms from gluten. I'm very familair with disabling neurological symptoms....its just that in my case they are caused by things other than gluten.

I hope that you recover from your symptoms on the diet....it does take time to heal. :)

I believe that once you are 100% gluten-free you should not experience symptoms such as vomiting, spinning or crippling migraines. If you continue to experience those symptoms you may want to consider looking into other causes.

ShayFL Enthusiast

That is great that corn is not your problem as it is in EVERYTHING!

Nightshades bother me. Potatoes will give me seizure like symptoms at night. :( So I dot eat them.

It is very difficult to find/discover the foods that we are intolerant to. But I just keep at it. I visualize myself well and in fact have healed so many things. :)

Cheers!!

damn, i haven't posted here in a while...things have been all over the place

the strange thing is, i've been taking sublingual b12 recently and today i feel horrible, like i did months ago...i've been pretty stable gluten-free i think, but today, i've had little lumps all over my head and face, i feel extremely off, crying for no reason, the flush feeling, walking back and forth feeling all uncomfortable

is it possible the b12 did it? or if i did have those detox pathway problems, that that interfered or caused some problem? this feels like i got thrown 3 months back, and so strange, but i remember people saying they had b12 issues and i'm wondering if it could have just messed with something

mushroom Proficient

I only ever took one sublingual B12. The next day broke out in a red, itchy, blotchy rash all over my face, which didn't go away. Eventually I had to treat it with erythromycin--doc said it looked like adult onset acne.

Someone here suggested it could have been a reaction to the mannitol. I won't do that any more.

I'm not sure. Maybe you could try the b12 injections and see if that goes over better for you.

Carla, that is the same thing I posted a link for a few months back. I think it is valuable. I tried it for awhile but like everything it takes time. I have another one I like to do that integrates faith but it isn't in a free download to learn like this one is and doesn't use the acupressure points.

About the EFT, I did google it and then found teh emofree website and there is a free pdf and newsletters. I have an acupuncture book I picked up on a sale and I looked up all the eft spots and meridians and they are where they are supposed to be. Looks like this is a way to balance the energy in the body. I also downloaded some videos that others had uploaded p-to-p to see if they are okay and they do look interesting.

different subject:

I remember my mother told me not so many years ago that her doctor had run a test for borrelia (in Europe lyme goes by that name) and she was positive but the doctor said it just means she had been exposed......now could we doughters have gotten it through her and how would the symptoms be? She lives in central Europe where ticks are abundant and we got bit all the time.

Wwhere I live there are no ticks but further south they have found many with neuroborreliosis etc. I doubt my doctor will order the proper test which only one hopital runs, and they will only run it when there are severe symptoms. I have fibromyalgia like symptoms and my sister is diagnosed with fibro.

I was much better while on the proper dose of thyroid meds, but my doctor lowerd the dose and I have been awful since. (long story but I will get to see my favourite endo in a while to sort this out) . But doctor has previously said he suspected additional issues and now this fibromyalgia thing comes up. I am trying some ldn (low dose naltrexone) and when I do take it my pains are almost all gone but i should really get a diagnosis.

So the question is, what happens typically if the kids get lyme from the womb.

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
