Sherry,

I forgot to comment on the selenium. I actually dont know anything about elevated selenium so I'm pretty sure I never posted anything with regards to that.

However, I did post a little bit about deficiencies. My selenium is very low.

Selenium is an important mineral...even though...I'm sure too much cant be good...it might be causing deficiencies with other minerals.

Rewind....summer of 2006. :D

A couple months ago I was called "hun" by a cop. I didn't know how to take that one....

Well, was he cute? 'cause that might help in interpreting... ;)

:lol::lol::lol:

Yeah, I guess he kind of was cute, a little older, mustache, really muscular, uniform, a gun strapped to his side, his hot ride with the flashing lights, shall I go on...

Um, how come none of the cops who pulled ME over ever looked like that? ANd did I mention I have 17 speeding tickets, so I have experience? (all in my youth friends, do not fear for the safety of your children in Rachelville as I drive the scenic roads of our farm)

About the cop, someone asked, forget who. That was me. And he didn't pull me over, I pulled his a** over :lol:

So there ya go. :P:lol:

Rachel--24 Collaborator

....and then Julie becomes the "Queen Greeter"....mainly because she has awesome hair.

Someone called me the "queen" in an earlier post and I just dont see myself as being the queen in R-ville. I thought of you right away....you have better hair and are naturally good at waving and greeting and all of that stuff that queens do....so I nominate you. :D

Besides, I wouldnt be caught dead wearing one of those crown thingys... :P

'twas I that mistakenly exalted - or demoted? - Rachel to Queen, in my sleepy post last night.....but this is just so right, Queen Julie, with Penguin's tiara for special occasions....

Julie will be our official town queen, that goes with greeter. :P

I am all for Julie being crowned queen of Rville, yes she looks regal!! :)

Julie has a regal beauty and a regal grace in her postings, definitely Queen material. I agree but does this mean we are going to be looking for a King? I'm definitely leaning in the direction of a matrilineal succession.

JULIE for Queen - I vote aye!

Hey, where is our Queen today? Julie - what'r ya doin??? Fixing your hair???

See....this is why I cant be the queen...I'm just not regal at all! :P

now now, maybe when your hair is wavy, you can be queen ;) ...but President and Founder suits you best...also resident dietician since you know so freaking much about it all!

I leave you guys alone for a little while and I come back to find I have not only been voted Queen and Greeter of Rachelville, but somehow I am listed as the Governor as well, how did this happen?:lol:

Good memories for sure Rachel. :D

and OMG.....I just have to put a few more of these from those same pages.

I just started the test this morning but its one of those ones where you have to give about 5 different samples over that many days...so I wont even be done with the tasting until around the weekend. Then I'll have to ship it the lab and I just scheduled my Dr. appt. For Aug. 4th. So...thats when I'll hear the results.

Good Lord, girl! They make you taste it? What the h*** kind of doctor do you have? :P:P:P

But honestly? I think we need a whole team of us, in R-ville, to just lay hands on your intestines and pray like heck for you! Because somethin' ain't right in there...

Ok, whose hubby is being left behind in his seventies world? Can my hubby stay with him? They can eat tv dinners and wear goofy clothes all they want.

It's my husband, Robbin. He's stuck in the 1940s, but may have one foot in the 70s because he LOVES those horrid, ugly paneled walls! Certainly your hubby can move in with him! Does your's also wear polyester, double-knit pants?

When he and I are out, I usually pretend we're not married - just friends.

I had a vision of myself as the "Rachelville Greeter" standing on a float, you know like one of those parade floats, and it had been hitched up to the back of one of Andrea's husband's trucks, driving me back and forth through Rachelville, and I had one of those beauty pageant perma-grins and a robotic hand wave. The geese would fly over head and I would say don't worry don't be scared, those are just the protective auxigro detecting geese. Hello, and Welcome to Rachelville.

OKay, I go away for most of the day, and this thread ALMOST gets on topic and serious... then some one has to bring up the geese :lol::lol:

Ahem...yes....our geese here in Rachelville have many duties to perform. They are very "protective" and serve their purpose of keeping our town free of not only the nasty Auxigro...but all other "nasties" that may try to infiltrate the sanctitude of our cult farm. :D

Someone else will have to teach them to keep me away from the Bumble Bars because I can't be trusted to do it.
Rachel--24 Collaborator
Awwww...Celia, she just doesnt know. We're nothing like the "Island of Misfits"....we are so much better than that. I mean really....did the Island of Misfits have all the luxuries we have here in Rachelville? I dont think so. Did they have a town greeter who waves so enthusiastically while protective geese fly above her? I dont think so. Did they have the perfect 85 degree weather we have here...with koalas living in the trees and snow only on Xmas? I think Not!

Puleeeeze....its so very obvious that she's jealous of our paradise cult farm...who wouldnt be!

I see the loony bin is still going strong.....

Julie - - you on the float - - -:lol: I had rather pictured you at the front gates of R-ville, handing out pamphlets and smiling, with sort of an airport scanner device to detect gluten in visitors

I'll just put on my Walmart "Rachelville" vest with the the little button, "my name is.." and the back says "Ask If I can Help", and stand at the front gates and smile, and wave, and say Hello, and Welcome to Rachelville.

Are we a utopian cult-farm thingy, now?

Wouldn't the dingos eat the auxigro-detecting geese? Or would the geese have some sort of protective sheild on? Would the dingos have rubber teeth?

Tika is autistic, so she's mostly interested in hunting for lizards and staring intently at people to get what she wants...

Um, off topic? I am so consistently off topic that I"m sure to be voted off the cult farm....

I got a question, and this is prbly too far of topic to get an answer... but can Rachel have dairy now?

I think she set that concept aside about 160 pages ago...

Attention ---Attentntion---

As the President of Rachelville....I have an announcement to make....

OMG...I might be able to eat dairy!!

I'm having such an awful time keeping up with this thread--can someone please PM me if this gets discussed and tell me what page we're on? I feel like a first-grader who got put in an AP physics class.

Um, one thing I want to know, as I don't have time to read 100 pages back, is just exactly HOW These geese were hired as security? Not saying that it doesnt' make sense, because of course it does, ;) just kind of wondering from whence it arose...and yes, the geese are in other threads now....call them back with the random song, somebody.....

I brought the geese, because Rachel was worried about our cows straying.

and this last post is heavily edited for obvious reasons to anyone who's been around for awhile...

I was thinking today....even though I've been here since page #1....I honestly have no idea how I ended up in Rachelville with all these wonderful gluten-free people, dingos and protective Auxigro-detecting non-pooping geese!

Its turned out to be the greatest thing but seriously....how the heck did we get here??

Seriously though...I just finished my second pint of ice cream! :o (yeah...since only yesterday I've already eaten 2 pints  )

Ok...I had this "OMG...I might be on to something moment" on Monday night.

Since then I've realized its not the celery....its the Auxigro.

Soooo...you can see where this is going. Damn geese....never around when I need them! Here I am getting poisoned by Auxigro (again) and the geese have flown off to other threads??!! What is up with that???

So anyways sometimes I'm reacting to it...sometimes not. I just try different farms and try to get lucky.

As I'm typing this I'm actually wondering why I even kept trying with the celery.... Who really cares about celery....what I really wanna know is can I eat ice cream???

So all weekend I'm sick with "d" and stomach aches....plus alot of other symptoms cuz I ate all this peanut butter.

All I know is I was sick...sick...sick.

My stomach started rumbling again and got all upset and bloated again...and yes...the ovary pain comes back.

I'm almost certain it was a pear, quinoa and Tinkyada.

The people who claim MSG is "safe" for us say that to prevent reactions we should eat high carb meals when consuming MSG. I say....lets not put it in our food at all...how about that.

...nobody cares except for us and the geese. :(

I'm thinking back on the week when I was on vacation and stuffing my face with those yams and sweet potatoes.

Its just a theory I have right now.

I'm totally done with veggies. They always get me sick. I do better with fruits. I think the stuff thats grown in or near the ground get me the most sick.

The root veggies absorb the most Auxigro since they are grown in the ground. Is celery a root veggie? Does it grow close to the ground? Anyone know this? Where is our resident farmer.....Mango, do you know this??

Anyways I think 30% MSG is ALOT.....I seriously think I'd do better eating a regular pizza.

I just cant gamble with the vegies anymore.

I read that alot of people find that ice cream actually helps them with MSG reactions.

I've enjoyed the hell outta eating those 2 pints so far!!

Of course its WAY too soon to say I'm cool with dairy...but we shall see.

Cheese is a no-no as well and I ate a whole block of swiss in one day.

I had never even heard of a glutamate when I started this thread.

I'm also gonna try corn...I've already eaten some corn tortillas.

I wouldnt dare try a tomato right now. <_< I got some frozen corn I'm gonna try.

I'm thinking corn may not be an issue but corn syrup would probably literally put me out of commission for a week or more. Corn Syrup, corn starch, corn this, corn that.....

Thats the stuff I need to avoid...I'm pretty sure.

Soooo....here I am again...changing things up.

Now if only I could have hot fudge, cherries, banana, whip cream and nuts....

Anyways, thats the latest in my string of "OMG moments".

Did someone say they needed a fabric store near R-ville? I decided it will be a "Super-Craft Store".....to accommadate all of our crafty needs.

Welcome to Rachelville!

I'm not sure if you were already greeted by our offical " town greeter", Julie. She waves and greets all the new-comers. :D

If she didnt...I apologize....she may be "slippin"....or maybe she's busy with her hair....gettin' beautiful for the parade.

OMG...Dont even get me started on the hair stuff. I could be here all night!!

Dang....this thread has taken over my life!!

Nite everyone.

Thanks for the info. on the Rosmed Sherry.

No doubt I'd benefit from the SCD if it werent for these issues with phenols and probably oxalates. So I cant do the diet AT ALL...almonds, carrots, etc...are NOT a good thing for me! :(

I think the beef and peas qualify, LOL!

Yeah, I have an overall sense of the diet from reading a bit on this forum and get the gist of it. I'm gearing up to start maybe by next week. I want to use up the potatos and yam I bought, LOL. My last fling....

Since I don't really have much abdominal symptoms I am figuring I'll go right up quickly but I guess I'll follow the stages of it just to say I did it. I suppose I could get some die off but my Rosmed test shows no real problems with yeasts or bad bacteria; 'course we all know that not everything shows up.

You mean you ate more than 2 king size milky ways and a half a can of whip cream that was sprayed directly into my mouth? And I got high from the nitrous oxide? :D

Um yep...try 6 Hershey's Special Dark with Almonds Nuggets, 2 mocha creamers and a huge chocolate chip gluten/dairy free cookie. I did not get high though...that might have made the queasies easier to take. Note to self: spray nitrous oxide into mouth first!

Donna, sorry you are having to wait for your results, it must be very hard to have this all hanging.

Yeah, kind of like lugging around a huge anvil on my back, lol.

So I'll be gone the weekend of Aug 9/10. We'll be staying at the beach so I'll be in heaven for the night we are there. I love the ocean and find the waves soothing......I just like listening to the water, even streams or rivers. About 10-12 years ago I used to get off work, round up the boys (stepsons) and Mitch and make a mad dash to the coast to watch the sunset......1 1/2 hour drive one way. We'd stay for the sunset....bout 1/2 hour and head back home. :P:lol:

This sounds heavenly alright!!!!

Well...."technically" it was brownies....I guess I thought it was cake for some reason.

Anyways, yeah....totally yummy with caramel spread on top. I'm telling you.....the yeast just LOVE me right now.

Brownies! Even better than chocolate cake...I like mine with cashew butter on them. :P

Well I hope you at least enjoyed every bite before you got to the point of feeling sick!

Almost...the sick part came on the last Hershey's nugget, but yet I continued on to eat the cookie a little while later. :P

I'm scared. I'm almost maxed out! :o 33% warning. Anyone else?

Nope I think you're alone in this, lol!

It's not wierd to react to the iron at all. If you look up ferrlicit the severe allergic reactions are exactly what I experienced. It wasn't the abx because I have infused 2x since then with no problems. It was definitely the iron. Now we just have to find out if it was a freak thing, or a true allergic reaction that happens every time.

It was just saline and the ferrlicit. Nothing else in the IV.

No I haven't started the Vit D yet. So that's not it. Thanks for the thought though. :)

DARN!! Hope they figure something out soon!

Have you guys ever thought of starting a supplement exchange program?? i mean.. we buy so many and often don't use them... might be more economical.. just an idea!!

Nancy....are you looking for the Lyme Disease thread on this board or are you looking for LymeNET (Which is a different board altogether)?

Donna-

Thanks for the link. How do I get to thread when I just log on?

Rachel-

No, I am looking for the thread on glutenfreeforum. But, I can't register on LymeNet, having difficulty with the username. I must have registered a long time ago and have to now find my old password, log in info, etc..so suffice it to say I have had no luck, still with the ART practitioner in my area. <_<

Also-

You mentioned a couple of pages back about trying Zeolite. I am curious to see how you do as we share some similar issues also ( I too have trouble with NAC, glutathione, MSM etc all that increase cysteine levels and make me VERY weak). Does this mean I have a sulfur metabolism issue?

Anyhow, I still haven't gotten to the bottom of this but I have felt much better since I stopped the methyl B12 shots and folate supplementation and only take B6 close to my cycle. I think I was over methylating myself and making the problem worse. I have read up a lot on over and under methylation and I was vascilating between the two, which makes me think I was over supplementing. B)

What zeolite was it? Did you take the drops in water or under your tongue? Don't take any other zeolite that's not pure! Many liquid zeolites are not pure and can be toxic. If it's not Waiora which it can't be because we are not allowed to sell our products in the health food stores it might just be zeolite that's mixed with minerals that was powdered and they also added water to it and said it was liqud zeolite.

Was it from the clinoptilolite family?

um it's Zlife, survival food?? ingredients are Humic Acid, zeolite, and Potassium Sorbate... i'm not going to not take it though cuz it cost me 50 bucks! another reason why we should have a supplement exchange!!

i don't think i'm necesarily toxic, i just have an infection that hasn't responded to antibiotics so i thought i could use all the extra help i can get. my yeast is up though, thanks to antibiotics... grrr.

Is this like an anniversary celebration? I don't know what you were talking about with the Geese, but I was laughing anyway. You are all very funny.

This thread is amazing. I wanted to tell you all that even though I am a newcomer, I am so glad I have found you. Well, I've moved up my plans to start SCD. While trying to use up my carbohydrate stuff, potatos, ice cream, yam, cookies, I am feeling much worse again and nausea as well. Maybe my LLMD is right, this is the missing piece.

So my chicken soup is simmering and my yogurt is culturing...

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
