Are you saying Vincent is dignified??

I feel like I need to ask Laurie a real dietetics question. Hmmmm... like what is the most common deficiency among women? Or do you feel the current food pyramid needs revamping? (I do think that actually....: ) !

Oh, Amen! I've long preferred a variation of the Mediterranean one, but I work with dialysis pts so none really apply to them. I haven't checked to see if there's a Celiac pyramid; if not, maybe we need to formulate one!

wow you go girl...that's a great great idea! :)

I'm glad you 'outed yourself' aren't you glad now  ..we sure are.

I love the aspect of a 'private practice specialist' in celiac disease.

I know many people on the board have had :( experiences with getting RD consults that really help us.

With the increase attention and awareness of this disease coming to the media, etc. maybe you have a real furture profession on the horizion :)

wow that would be great.

Welcome to the board. I am glad to have you on here. This forum will help you in many ways, both in your profession and for your own health. I thought of penguin/chelsea as soon as I read your thread title-how was the chem classes?

I love your sense of humor--you will fit in well here :D

Vincent is our "official in charge of rule-breaking" in the "omg" thread. He is also our resident angel. :)

I had never read this thread, but had to see what the three pages were all about!! :D Welcome to the board. You're getting a good sampling of the fun that goes on here.

The cake made me nauseous ... of course, I only ever liked the icing anyway, and as long as it doesn't have anything healthy like real butter, I can still eat it!!

I think gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate should be at the bottom of the food pyramid ... I eat a little piece of it after every meal, and it's a LOT better for ME than BREAD!

IMO, any food sytem with grains as its base (like the ones mentioned above) is flawed at its root. We have way to much epmashis on grains, and not enough on protiens, good fats, and etc.

Some of us, well me tend to do a high carb diet. I add the proteins, not because I want them nor desire them, but because I need them.

I am one of the Celiac dxd persons who never liked bread, pasta, beer, or the likes of all. So would it not be the assumption, that my body was telling me what it needed and what it did not....Or could I be the exception.

In addition, my limbs are still slim, (no butt), but the ten pounds that I have gained, is mostly in my torso.

Which I think is related to a high carb diet.

I don't do alot of excersise....and I expect that Tiffany is going to jump me for not doing so. MOTIVATION HERE!!!!!????

Vincent, you weren't one of my ten best buds here until last week. Ya gotta heart, spread it around a little. Take some time to relax, it's been an emotional week for you. Do something nice for yourself on us. :)

RD huh? Question for you... if I am eating pretty healthy (you know McDonalds super sized meal for lunch, Burger King for dinner, Baskin Robbins for break fast, Snickers and stuff like that in between to control hunger...) why am I so fat and out of shape? I mean I do walk to my car EVERY DAY! Heck I have to go down THREE STAIRS in to my garage to get to it!

LMAO Vincent you're BAAAAAAD

Don't for get your homemade ice cream in that diet plan..

Welcome! And how did you deal with the chemistry getting your degree

Sorry, I posted an answer this morning but must have hit preview instead of add reply.

Chemistry is so not how my brain is wired, so take heart!

I plodded ...didn't cut classes, reviewed after lecture, asked questions when lost so the next class wasn't murkier still. I didn't enjoy general chem and organic but liked getting to medical biochemistry and nutritional biochem.

Thanks so much for welcoming me. :) I've been hesitant to share this because....

Another welcome to the board, you can learn from here and we will learn from you. People here are very willing to share what they have picked up from their research and however. We also hope to teach more Dr.s more about the celiac problem. I would also like to kn ow why Celiac seems to be more common the last few years? Are we getting too many additives and chemicals mixed up/ our food, too many fertilizers, pesticides and GMOs? Some things are changing tremendously and too many people are getting too many serious diseases, many of them concerning immunity??? B) evie

Hey -- I just picked up on your thread . . . welcome to the forum!!!! Don't feel badly at all about being a dietician and having a "learning curve" to get through -- from what I gather from my dietician, celiac just isn't emphasized in the curriculum that much . . . .

The great news is that you are going to be a FANTASTIC asset for patients whom you treat/consult. They are going to be very lucky . . . I hope they appreciate you, and I also hope they appreciate the effort you have taken to educate yourself with regard to this.

BTW: heavy cream with gluten-free vanilla extract, turbinado sugar and blueberries . . . heavenly.:ph34r:

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system
