It is a beautiful area. She actually lives right next to Cold Mountain.

I enjoy all that goes along with going to a football game ... the game itself is incidental ... I prefer college football.

Or, Carla when she gets her braces off and whitens her teeth. :D

I cannot begin to tell you how much mouth pain I'm in. The ortho adjusted them and I got a new wire across my mouth. The wire was too long and it has made big sores in the back of both sides of my mouth. I filed it down on both sides, not easy to do, LOL. Now I have wax over it so the sores can heal. I can hardly eat ... in fact, I don't eat much. I also have six ruber bands pulling my teeth together, so I keep clenching my jaw because it's too difficult to open. Ouch.

Cold Mountain is one of my very favorite movies!

The description of what's going on inside your mouth basically sounds like torture. Ugh, I am sorry you're having a hard time with that on top of other stuff!!!

BTW, here's a little silliness for you...

Lucas's elementary school is doing a big fundraiser right now, called Cow Bingo. I had never heard of this (but I am not originally from the south... my family's from the finger lake region of NY- we moved down here when I was a kid.) So I had to get his teacher to explain it to me.

So we're all selling these Cow Bingo tickets. On the day of the event, they paint all these squares in the soccer field, and each square has a purchased ticket number painted in it. Then they put a cow out in the field and wait. The first square the cow poops on wins!

Sarah- Can you have a party tomorrow??? That sounds AWESOMe (oh wait- assumed I could invite myself

Wait, is tomorrow, today, or tomorrow? Is she having the party, er, today? Holy cow, let me check fares and times and dingo sitters - I'm coming too!!!!!!!!!

We have just over two acres, cleared... only drawback is a lack of mature trees, so that's going to be challenging. The summer sun here is brutal!

TWO ACRES!!! oh how I long to live in teh Carolinas. That is where I would find my charming, chivalrous and beautiful southern man. harrumph!

10. Blowing Paper:

"At any moment it could whip up into our faces, covering our noses. We could suffocate. And don't try to tell us you'd do CPR."

 why, I never thought about that!

Ahhhh....I'm always so far from all the action. :( Sarah, I wanna come to your party, too, but I'm just too far away from NC! Man, we Canadians are too far from everything...no fair.

No, not true!! Nikki's flying in from across the pond, surely you're just a TAD farther than that! You can do it!!! :P

Carla!! Heinous, medieval mouth torture! :o

Nikki, love your choice of name for your kitty...Will is my DH's name, as well. Means "strong protector". Dunno about my husband, but I bet that kitten could offer up some resolute protection! :) He looks adorable.

He is :D ....thank-you to our resident etymologist (I really must stop using long words I don't understand  )

here in Canada we did do one thing right many years ago, and that was create a VERY exciting, entertaining world of football. It is a much, and I do mean much, faster, more enthralling game in the CFL than in the NFL. Three downs, a longer field (end zones), big, scrappy players that are making a third of what the NFL superstars are...the stadiums are electric! I've gone since I was a young kid, and we take our kids to games now. Have you ever watched a CFL game? If you get the chance, do!

HAVE to comment now.

You peeps (Americans,Canadians) may have a good game with a ball (odd shaped or otherwise) but football it ain't!

Football = 2 teams, 11 a side, game of two halves (45mins each) most popular game IN THE WORLD, blah, blah, blah :P ......

no fair.

A bit like my bad...an economy, TSK Emily!! <_<

How can you possibly not love the Irish? These were actual "Personal Ads" in the Dublin News:

Heavy drinker, 35, Cork area. Seeks gorgeous sex addict interested in a man who loves his pints, cigarettes, Glasgow Celtic Football Club and has been known to start fights on Patrick Street at three o'clock in the morning.

Evidently Jin's hair eats things - I think things lost in the house can sometimes be found in Jin's hair - and also - maybe she has hair "explosions," wherein said hair is suddenly found clumped on an innocent bystander nearby

Aaarrrgh!! Here I am, walking into T-joe's, happy as the happiest of clams (not that I'm qualified to comment on the bliss of mollusks - I have not personally run the studies), then I hear the music. The &^%$#% store is encased in an annoying KC & the Sunshine Band piece of simplistic excrement, so grating I actually find I'd rather leave the store than do my shopping.

OK, song's over by now. Should be safe to venture back in . . .. . . .. . .plz God, let it not be a medley.

(LOL @ everything posted!!! Specific silliness for later!)

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.

There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
