That's what we had . . . are you calling me weird??

 Isn't that a prerequisite for being on the silly thread?

I don't know, it's just all of my friends' weddings that I've been to have been on the larger side and had 4-5 bridesmaids/groomsmen. I'm afraid that my vision of a small, intimate wedding is going to end up looking like a country bumpkin kinda thing. I don't want it to look like we're doing things on the cheap! I'm scared to death my wedding will be that lame-o wedding that everyone refers to when they talk about bad/weird weddings. I think I may be obsessing a little bit . . .

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with my heart pounding and my mind swirling with guest list issues. Is it weird to only have a maid of honour and a best man and no others in the wedding party? So many things to figure out!

Alex....the most crucial names are OURS.;)

One maid of honoUr and best man is an excellent approach. The least complicated, most inexpensive, and very classy. Okay, there, that's taken care of....

Don't worry! You guys won't get cut. The list goes parents, grandparents, siblings and then you guys. Anyone want to volunteer to be the emcee?

No, but I think you can count on us to be the embarrassing drunk relative(s) that talk too loud and . . . fart.

Now there's an idea!!! If not, I'm sure he could manage being the DJ. I'm sure he's got good taste in music!!! Ahhhhh . . . music makes me remember that we need to pick a wedding song! I was always the one at weddings secretly making fun of people's lame, corny wedding song choices. So now I CANNOT have a lame song.

I know how you feel Alex, I thought I needed a planner too but everything does come together.

Jacquie and I had two supporters each. Our biggest challenge was trying to balance the guest list--her initial list was about twice the size of mine. She trimmed and I added.

I will be in the lab friday evening Sillies....I had to say yes. I will probably work till 8 or so. Overtime in the lab means 21 bucks an hour so I try to work longer hours on Fridays since I dont have to go to my day job.

I work with this woman who is grossed out by bodies and specimens and such and she cannot understand how I can work in the lab. I just tell her you get used to it...

Calm thyself, dear one. We are here to help. :) All brides obsess. We can help you think of simple, beautiful, tasteful ideas. I did a few weddings and MANY MANY parties in Carmel - flowers, decor, aesthetics - - we'll give you ideas. :)

OMG sillies - - - bear with me - - must interject a moment of bittersweet sadness into the silly thread.

I have to put Stinker's photo up one more time - - taken last summer - - even in her decrepit, aged, demented and frail state - - she still found a ball at the lake and wanted to fetch. :) Today, I don't know why, I am missing her SO SO much. :( I've posted her photo, but this will be her last one, I think, and I"ll take it down soon. But taking her picture down is just so......final.......... *sigh*

So.......recently I found the "mastercard" commercial I wrote for her a few years ago.... I was weeping as I dropped her off at the vet for yet another assault to her body and dignity.....she had already had her 1.5 years of chemo, which included 10 weekly trips to the vet for IV injections, then twice monthly, then monthly. The vet techs always remarked how stoically adn quietly she sat in there, observing everything and never even making a whimper, while most other dogs yelped and whined. She was such a noble, strong, fierce and brilliant girl. There'll never be another like her.

So.....she developed this tumour on the back of her neck that I'd been draining every few days for months - a liquid-filled cyst taht eventually became quite gross, necessitating removal.

I dropped her off at the vet and just wept on the 30-minute drive home, and composed this in my head:

Blood work $65

TumoUr removal $175

Dental cleaning $45

Anal gland expression (gads) $12

IV fluids $60

Biopsy of tumoUr $50

Tranquilizers/pain meds $50

Thyroid meds $60

I'm BAAAACK.......can't get rid of me that easily! I had surgery last week and I am just getting back to feeling better .....I have not been on the makeup thread either so there really has been no favoritism :D Boy I was just catching up, now I have to start all over again....Has Amy Winehouse aka Richard been returned yet or is he still being held hostage. Hope all is well and look forward to much more mentally stimulating chat :)

Alex- I did not have a big wedding. If you want any pointers feel free to ask. Oriental Trading and Ebay are great places to find things. I did a beach theme. If you want I can show you some of our pics. Just PM me if you need anything.

Amanda!!!!!:lol::lol: Here it is . . . reinacted, so to speak.

(it has occurred to me how little gas I have now that am gluten-free - - probably less than 10 GASSERS a day and some days, good Lord, probably zero. Will start monitoring and counting, though, adn update here. ;) )

All right, starting tomorrow, as soon as everyone awakens, we are keeping a running count. We must report in with our number every three or four hours. This is truly what the Silly Thread is all about...I'm surprised this hasn't been done before! Okay, so it's usually Amanda and I posting first in the morning...we'll have the first entries. Now, we're all on our honoUr....no cheating or fibbing!!:lol:

:o surgery? what?! Well, Babs, nice to have you back. ;) no sign of Richard. Now we are beyond worried, adn just plain......furious. Bev is going to give her famous Dutch Oven treatment later on tonight.

OMG - what was my count earlier today? three or four? can't remember.....it's still the same. Nary a fart since the last one, before noon.

Funny how one notices these things now.

Tomorrow, I shall tell you about Gail's long-ago breakup scenario, which did in fact involve a gaseous man - whom she now calls Farter Starter. we don't know why, it's just funny. And, the title of that very short story is:

The Passive-Aggressive Act of Parting by Farting.

pull my finger?

off to bed with my book and my wee dingo.

Darn210 Enthusiast

I'm off to bed, too, but just an update on our freaky weather . . . along with the tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, we had hail, 50-60 mph winds and the temp was around 52 or so a little over three hours ago and now it is 14 (that's Fahrenheit, folks!). Gads!!! I hate the bus stop . . . how old do the kids have to be before I can send them out on there own??

tom Contributor
Amanda!!!!!:lol::lol: Here it is . . . reinacted, so to speak.

:o gotta hold down the rewind button << a little longer

Emily started it off by recounting <no pun intended .. . . ..no really> the tale of her DH's running total, updated by email through the day w/ an astounding triple-digits by dinner and .. . . .how'd it go? "after dinner, all hell broke loose" ROFL :lol::lol:

Her adding that the avg was 10-18 per day sealed it. How could we NOT launch Project Fart Chart?

Hi all !! Did anyone ever get prescribed methylprednisone steroids for inflammation of stomach and intestines?  Did it work ??  Thank you !!
    • cristiana
Hi Colleen Are you supplementing B12/having injections? I have learned recently that sometimes when you start addressing a B12 deficiency, it can temporarily make your symptoms worse.  But it is important not to stop the treatment.  Regarding your problems with anxiety, again that is another symptom of a B12 deficiency.   I didn't know what anxiety was until it hit me like a train several months before gastrointestinal issues began, so I can certainly relate.   Two books which helped me hugely were At Last A Life by Paul David (there is a website you can look up) and The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs by Dr Steve Llardi.  Although his book is aimed at people who have depression, following the principals he sets out was so helpful in lessening my anxiety.  Llardi suggests we need to focus on getting enough: - physical exercise - omega-3 fatty acids - natural sunlight exposure - restorative sleep - social connectedness - meaningful, engaging activity   ... and we should feel a lot better. That is not to stay you must stop taking medication for depression or anxiety if you have been prescribed it, but adopting the changes Dr Llardi sets out in the book should really help. Can I just ask two more questions:  1) you say that you are B12 deficient, did they test your iron levels too?  If not, you really ought to be checked for deficiency and, 2) did they check your thyroid function, as an overactive thyroid can be cause rapid heartbeat and a lot of coeliacs have thyroid issues? Hello still dancing around my celiac disease and not getting medically backed up considering Ive been glutenfree since 1994.All my ailments are the core issue of my ghost disease aka celiac disease. Im angery because the "celiac specialist " basically lightly dismissed me.Im extremely angery and fighting for a new primary care physician which is hard to do in Northern Cali.So currently without and looking.Im angery that its lightly taken when its extremely serious to the one who has it.My only evidence is a brochure back in the days when I got news letters when I lived at my parents. It was published in 1998.I was diagnosed before any foods eliminated from my diet. Angery doctors don't take seriously when Im clearly speaking.I did write to the medicine of congress and have case number.

I totally get this. It's absolutely a grieving process, and it's okay to feel gutted about the loss of those simple joys, especially at 18. Your feelings are completely valid—it's not about being ungrateful for your amazing boyfriend, it's about mourning the life you thought you'd have. That "tortured by the smell" feeling is so real. It does get easier, I promise, but it's okay to sit in the sadness and just vent about how much it stings right now. Thanks for sharing that. Celiac.com has published a book on our site by Jean Duane PhD called Gluten-Centric Culture, which covers many of the social aspects of having celiac disease: This chapter in particular covers issues around eating with family and others - Gluten-Centric Culture: Chapter 5 - Grabbing A Bite Together:
