Apparently, I am the elder in Sillyville, at the ripe age of 53. Gawd, some of the sillies are young enough that I could be their father. Go figure. :o

At least Amanda and I.....who else?

By the way, Amanda, you definitely have to go see Billy Joel. Great, great show.

Gaaaahhhhh! Oh, I'm so there!

So, was lying on Jack's bed saying goodnight, and while we were chatting about his day, and what's happening in Sillyville, he decided to put out a second offer: (So funny...how and why does he come up with all this?)...

THREE MILLION, tax free. In return, must wear total green all day, every day, and there is NO choice allowed in style of supplied clothing. Two certainties exist: clothing will always be weather-appropriate, and always the right size.

OMG....what a weird child..... :rolleyes::lol:

I must carefully mull this one over.....

Ok....so on the news just now they were talking about $4 gas! They also said foreclosure rates are soaring, what is causing all the foreclosers though?

Ok....so on the news just now they were talking about $4 gas! They also said foreclosure rates are soaring, what is causing all the foreclosers though?

Besides the more catastrophic scenarios, people who bought at the peak & have thought they were building equity are finding they still OWE more than the house is currently worth.

Newspaper today said that, for the first time, there were more foreclosures than sales, in CA., in a single month.

I keep thinking of the character played by Sterling Hayden in the 1964 movie, Open Original Shared Link. He was a mad US Air Force General named Jack D. Ripper, who sent the bombers on a nuclear attack mission against the USSR. It is a marvelous black comedy directed by Stanley Kubrick with wonderful performances by Peter Sellers in multiple roles.

Please warn us if Jack shows any sign of interest in joining the military or becoming a pilot.

On a more serious note, we had a different driver for this morning's delivery and everything went well.

im not even aware of what he sings. only that he is supposed to be good, and the seats we got are damn near right in front! i suppose you could say we have the uvula seats !

 darling, what ARE uvula seats? Will it hurt?

[edit - OMG - I think I JUST got it - - we are sitting so close we can see Boo-blay's tonsils etc - gahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

So........I've procured our beverage for our flasks..... ha ha ha ha ha........BTW the B&B (my preferred nightcap - second only to the absinthe I"ll never have) at Save Mart was freaking NINETEEN dollars - it's TWELVE at Trader Joe's (about 300 yards away in same parking lot). So....that was out as I was all errand-ed out todya........I have a surprise for Kissey.........bah ha ha ha - - will only say at this point that it was the liquor of choice for backpacking/camping trips and it DOES put hair on one's chest......... ;)

(OMG - the play is "42nd Street" - - I am going to DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE - - but only Squats will know - - will keep all of this a secret from the two other couples.......v. funny, a little private joke between us and no doubt a marathon evening of pure torture for Dingy.......gaaaaaaaaawd....... )

Giah-net - - good news about your boy..........

Man, that must be wonderful. We've got one kind, La Messagere, and it's only available in Quebec. It's also, according to DH, no screaming hell. He now accompanies me in a nightly glass of dry white. He is slowly becoming a girly-man with this dietary change....lots more veggies through the day, very little bread, and HARDLY ANY PHARTING!! Five or six a day, mefinks. :)

Emily! This is OUTSTANDING news!!!!!!!!!! Girly-man. Get Thom to send you some absinthe.

OMG - today - driving around town, minding my own business.......thoughts drift to green, as they often do....... and I thought to meself - - now why did The Ripper come up with this green-garbed question, why green.......why the million dollars.........does he have a wee version of a Dingo Brain by chance? are these the things of which he thinks as he shampoos the carpets, or wipes up the butt-scoot residue? gahhhhhhhhhhhhh

the only clues that missy dingo is aware of is that it is after may and before october... that annieDingo gets to come along... it does not involve her cabin nor my mtn.

lil miss dingo had mentioned that it something that she wanted to do in one of our thousand ongoing conversations. she is  really quite exited about it and tried to get me drunk last night to loosen me tongue !

Morning Sillies!!!!

Emily where ARE you I can't see you lurking???? My morning seems incomplete now

Tis a nippy morning out there. I was shivering as I walked to work....not a fun idea let me tell you :) So now I am holding down the fort my coworkers went to Grand Rounds.

How is everyone else doing this morning? Are you all in Silly Moods?

elye Community Regular

Good Moooorrrrninng, Ma Sillies!

I'm always somewhat relieved when I check our thread in the morning and there hasn't been a mad flurry of posts the night before, as when this happens the very real possibility exists of me being late for work responding...

I'm too concerned about veto power over the *BRIGHTEST* of greens.

Any leeway there, Ripper?

Nope. No wiggle room, here. Could be olive green for a day, emerald, neon....just gotta put it all on and wear it. All day. For three million...

I would do it.

On a more serious note, we had a different driver for this morning's delivery and everything went well.

I was thinking about the truck scenario with you, Peter. Thank goodness this driver was somewhat competent, or sober. <_<

(OMG - the play is "42nd Street" - - I am going to DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE - -

This could be much worse, Susie....it's a good story, and great music...simply close your eyes, ignore the people shouting scripted words and then bursting into song, and just listen to the wonderful arrangement. Or....bring your iPod, and quietly install the earphones as the curtains are rising, and listen to your own tracks.;)

- - now why did The Ripper come up with this green-garbed question, why green.......why the million dollars.........

I know, I know......What does it all MEAN........???

HOW in HELL can we get it out of him??????????????????????????? And WHY did he announce it last night???????????????????????

And What does THIS all mean...?

...Kissey announces this mysterious guessing exercise...Simultaneously, The Ripper announces a second big-money offer.....

...No such thing as coincidences.....

....Are they in cahoots? Kissey and the Ripper (Now there's our next garage band moniker)?....What are they planning???!

I am continually shocked and amazed that you are 66......you have the heart and soul and bright spirit of a young girl. We love you to death. :)

Allentown would be best for me--much less busy than Philadelphia. Probably too far for you?

Ok....so on the news just now they were talking about $4 gas! They also said foreclosure rates are soaring, what is causing all the foreclosers though?

Another reason is that lots of people got mortgages with no downpayments/100% financing--and most of these loans were ARM's. As the payments adjust upward, it's hard to keep up with the higher payment and if they try to sell, they find that they actually owe more than the house is worth presently.

Sillyville does come into my real life quite often, the other day I was at working sitting here, and it got me thinking wonder what the Sillies are doing at their houses

John and I are house hunting. The prices on quite a few houses have fallen since no one has been purchasing them.

I have reconnected with an old friend - and she is an older friend also - just turned 65! The loveliest, chicest, most stylish woman - she taught me so much......she was my boss at the tasting room for half the time I was there, and became a very dear friend.

So, I had her over the other night, such fun, she lives in FrezNO and we had lost touch but she is back in my life. :) (her name is Jeremy)

Well, there is a secret goofball side to her that few know about. TRUE GOOF. The other night I was telling her about my sillies and the things we discussed - including phart shapes/sizes. She looks at me and says, don't you remember the names for farts I shared with you years ago?

So - here's her email in its entirety:

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?

Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?

Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
